Very interesting.I used to machine Stellite on the lathe on large 4 ton intermixer shafts. The mating wear plates were surface ground on Lumsdon surface grinders. It was a good slow job on the night shift.

    Nice explanation.
Good luck with the resurfacing and grind.

Thanks for following Luke, it's great to have positive feedback and hopefully somewhere along the way it might be useful to someone.

Very informative about the followers and hard facing, I dabbled in hard facing on farm equipment in the past but never tried anything as delicate. Were the cam followers case hardened before? I can only assume they were. That must have took many years and miles to wear them that much. Wow... my hat is off to you for attempting such a repair. I will be following along to see how they come out. Great Job. Great to see Dean too, we talk from time to time. Dont think Dean needs to worry about cam followers on his Bantam's.

Very interesting subject Ade, what a nice old Shadowgraph. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
Not so sure about that ugly bloke you were hanging about with at the beginning of the video! Thanks for the mention. Hope to see you again soon.
    Best wishes, Dean.

Hi Dean, I've got some further progress with the followers recorded, just need a bit of edit time. I thought it would be more interesting than a radius gauge, besides which my gauges stop at 1" . It's also surprising how cheap an 'old slide projector ' can be bought for 🤣🤣

That was very informative, I will look forwards to the next instalments.
Do you know why the Sealey rod welded so horribly?? Never seen anything like it, thank goodness!!

Many thanks, I don't know with the Sealey rods, I have also read reviews (after buying them ☹️) that are not favourable either, maybe for hard facing digger bucket teeth appearance doesn't matter? I'll have another go with them sometime but tig is much better for this job presently.

Hi Ade, thanks for another interesting video. I've never seen a Rockwell tester being used before , now I understand a bit more. Just recently I have started to rebuild a T150 engine, one of the cam lobes had started to lose the the hard face so lots of debris had gone through the motor & all 6 of the cam followers were in a shocking state. Time to get them refaced & reground.

Hi Kerrin, thanks for watching! I've seen a few triples with cam, follower and valve guide issues, seems relatively common, there's a video on my channel featuring a Trident with one, strangely just one worn valve guide bore? Look it up if you haven't already done so.

@@AGEngineering I watched that a while ago, if I remember correctly you used a Norton guide & machined it to fit. A nice bit of work.
