Over the past few years, I have been a gate faculty, planning to switch to power bi, but while learning about them, I got confused about the distinctions between measures and calculated columns, went through many videos from several branded UA-cam channels, including Edureka, Simpliearn, and others. but did not get a clear idea, but you narrated it elegantly. Normally I am the kind of a person who does not listen to the class conduct by women as many of them who were working with me in the colleges as well as in gate coaching field was delivering the content without a proper script, but you scripted it in a simple way that anybody could undertand
Hi, Nice to see women in this men-dominated YT powerbi series. I liked your explanation and the points you projected 1. C.columns physically exist in the file and hence increase your file size. whereas measures exist in the fly panel. 2. Rule of thumb: when dealing with numbers use measures and when dealing with varchars and etc use calculated columns.
Absolute ! Hima Bindu...after a long search on differences between C.column and c.Measure, my query ended with full clarity on it after I went through 5.36 short minutes of the tutorial...I am really amazed by such calm you explained brilliantly.....I really appreciate the way you shared the knowledge..God Bless you a ton of success!! Please do continue tutorials
@4:33 You mentioned whenever we want to see a number we use Measure I think it's vice versa. Correct me if I am wrong. Thank You. You are doing a great job.
Hi Bindu, thank you for explaining everything so clearly. I have two questions: 1) How do I aggregate rows to make total rows figure? 2) How do I calculate each row figure as a percentage of the total rows figure above? Very grateful for making everything so simple.
Bindu, I did exactly the same way you instructed, but I'm getting different results. I mean for Calculated Column I'm getting filtered result and for Measure I'm getting total sum of sales. I wish I could show you a screenshot so you can understand what I mean. I really appreciate all your videos on Power BI.
Hey, need your help !! In power bi if I have to add a column let's say column name is country name which is india then how to add it, Can you please guide
Means measures are better where we want to document calculations from the object and also it won't occupy the space in report. On case of calculated column, we won't be able to do the slice and dice from the object and it will increase size of report. But it will execute quickly then measures.
Hi Bindu ji, I have a question - Can we create Calculated Columns, Calculated Measures or Calculated Tables with Direct Query or Live Connection? Please answer ... Thank you
according me calculated column is useless for sum of sales and explanation is also seems wrong everywhere. everyone says colculated column calculate row wise but actully it is calculating (sum ) whole column. then where to use calculate column ?
This is not correct - columns calculate at the row level of the underlying table and can then be used to filter/slice the data. The reason the same value was displayed on each line is because of the "SUM" in the formula... leave that out and each row would be been evaluated independently...

Yes. You definitely can. Good luck !
@@TheHimaBindu thanks ma
Calculated column : consumes RAM, Mostly used in slicers to filter values ; Measure: Consumes CPU, Slicers does not support measures.
why every video is all about calculating sales figure and not about any other kind of dataset.
I will try to use different dataset
