My grandpa was interned in the same prison camp as she was and heard her perform sometimes. She would perform for the Japanese prison guards but also sometimes for the prisoners including my ~12 year old grandpa. Amazing to be able to listen to her now too.
Wonderful. When she came to my school to give a concert, I snuck, unseen, into the auditorium to hear her practice. She was elegant and well-dressed and mostly tried things out, but from this I learned a lot about being a pianist. I recall my teacher, a young Juilliard grad back then, being horribly dismissive of her concert that night, but for me it was revelatory. ( The year with that teacher was a wasted one. )
Wonderful. She reminds us that Mozart was the first Romantic.
Back in the day when all they worried about was... BEAUTY... and really playing beautifully... using the FULL instrument... pedal in Mozart... and REALLY singing tone everywhere and in everything... so remarkable...

I wasn't aware that there was film of Krauss 1 What a treasure ! Brave to play Bartok in the 1960's ! Incredible Mozart . She makes this music sound truly like a speaking thing . Ive never heard so much meaning in this musicand i listen often to Clara Haskil ,Pires,Uchida ,Ingrid Haebler . It takes a lot to hear what the greats do with silence ,dynamis.Fascinating document !
One of the greatest artistic personalities ever....
I first heard her on a record my parents have me of the complete Schubert Impromptus. Been one of my favorites ever since. Ingrid Haebler performed the Impromptus nicely too, but several were shortened so as to fit within the record side time capacity.
This is a glorious performance! First time I am hearing this remarkable pianist and what a treasure it's turned out to be!

At 25:19 she caught the wrong key.
So what
Wonderful Bartok and the Mozart reveals her usual mastery of technique and expression. But the Schubert doesnt convince me (not because of the obvious wrong note in the middle section): the interpretation seems stagey and uninvolved, also rhythmically dubious in a couple places in the A section.
