Chambers is a great drummer! And Hynde has one of the greatest voices in Rock male or female. They have not lost a step! They still sound great! I’m so pleased that’s the case. These two new players seem very sharp too! I’m glad the fire 🔥 is still burning! The passion is still alive. Fantastic!
Maple Leaf Ballroom in Toronto, 1981. Journalism student. Snuck in a Pentax K1000 camera, 50mm lens. Great night, steamy, heaving atmosphere. Got great shots. Published next day in the Toronto Sun with Jonathan Gross' review of the show. First time published. Still gettin' it done with cameras. Still listening to this great band.
Chrissie Hynde is definitely the star of the show and all Pretenders shows but I'll always love the fact that she prefers to be a band member rather than a solo artist.
ahhh damn great memories of being a kid...on the cusp of adolescence...songs like this letting us know what's up. Chrissie sang this sexy af! 😍 Always dug the guitar counterpoint interplay on this one. 🎸 A bit of punk, bit of lowkey skate thrash...grunge before it was a thing! Wonder what she used to get that gritty dirty good guitar sound...
Chrissie! When I saw and heard the first Pretenders record, I bowed in reverence and humility and gave up my dream of fronting my own rock band, cuz she did it exactly how I would have done it and she was way, wayy better at it than I could ever be. And that was fine, she was awesome then and she still is (and I found another career, one I'm much better suited to, lol!) I will always be grateful I had the good sense to go see them back in 1981, and got to see Honeyman-Scott up close. He was an amazing player and he was so damn cute! He is very much missed, still, That show also holds the record in my life for "loudest concert I ever attended"--this was in Pittsburgh, at the Stanley Theater. The acoustics in that place were spectacular, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. But it was still great, cuz I was with my first ex-husband, and it was so loud I couldn't hear a thing he had to say (no doubt he was whining about it--his idea of "payback" for this night out was to insist I accompany him to see Hank Williams Jr a few months later, in the same venue UGH!)
This song makes me giddy with a longing for a love I've only felt twice in my life. Some would say i should be glad for that... to have been fortunate enough to lie in the arms of mutual adoration, passion and compassion...not once but twice! I guess thats better than it gets. But still, the whirlwind i feel at the bridge ("me and you, every night, every day...") lifts me to younger days with a young, sun freckled heart rising to heights high enough to burst out of my chest. Now all I feel are the drying tears of nostalgia.
I think Jimmy and Pete would approve of this, it's an inspired version with a similar attitude of the original but it lacks that "Something"...RIP Mr. Honeyman-Scott and Mr. Farndon.
The bass needs to be turned way up here. Pete's bass dominated this song. James and Pete played off of each other on this song. Each was trying to outdo the other. At least turn the bass up.
I love the Pretenders !!! Ms. Hynde is still as sexy and hot as ever !! She'll always be my number one female Artist/musician/rocker ever !!! She puts Lady Goo Goo and all the other crap entertainers and bubble gum Pop divas of today to shame !!!
not even close to the original pretenders from 1979 to 1981 or 82....i mean the guitarist can't play the final lead so she had to get a good flat pedal steel guitar player....Honeyman would play that on conventional electric guitar . sad he and original bassist Farndon died way too early . only the good die young as the saying goes....
Like Chrissy said at their HOF induction, the Pretenders wouldn't be there without Honeyman and Farndon, but it's possible that, without the Pretenders, Honeyman and Farndon might still be there.
Martin Chambers...A pure rock drummer!!
Damn, right
Pure strength and raw power...always in the pocket!
The absolute GREATEST female rocker in the entire history of rock. 💕🎸
Add Nancy and Ann Wilson along with Pat Benatar to that statement.
@@mikecicco2775 Joan

One of the greatest songs ever!

Fantastic!
One of the best opening riffs of the last 50 years, one of the coolest looking bass players ever ..The drummer..well what can I say?
1st two Pretenders album with original band...top top of the rock pile.....
The world really needs this now.............Message of Love

Boy, she hasn't missed a step, still amazing.
3 words to sum this up: *_TOO DAMNED COOL..._* (R.I.P. James & Pete)

Outstanding song from the second LP.
Underrated woman - amazing... still kicking ass!!
Chrissie Hynde is definitely the star of the show and all Pretenders shows but I'll always love the fact that she prefers to be a band member rather than a solo artist.
The Drummer is AMAZING, AWESOME, and all the things you want!. The Style that he and they have is unbeliable

This band makes a 58 year old record collector glad he has some incredible vinyl.....
This is one the defining songs of the 80's...

She hasn't missed a beat....one of the great women ROCKERs.

Yes, great drummer! They are hard to come by. This song was so fun to cover in my band in the early 2000's. Still a great Message ❣
Still pure magic! :)
CLASS ACT AS ALWAYS.... ROCK ON!!!!! KATH
Such a wonderful songwriter. It’s AllThere.
Love this song!
Favorite song of life.
My favorite band, ever great❤
They look great!
That was fuckin awesome
Great song and great shuffle - type drum beat!
One of my idols..
ROCK ROYALTY!!!!!
Talent!!!
I don't do number rankings but all I know is this song and The Wait are 2 of the best tunes of all time.
This song makes me giddy with a longing for a love I've only felt twice in my life. Talk about love. you blow away, very fine.
Amazing
Sultry singer and cool song 😎
I like the Autograph! Nice!
Never a bad version of this song. Rock at its best! Good band as always....Is Martin feeling targeted? Keep on....
She is badass!
I like the lighter Haircolor on Ms. Crissy!
Hot song

good good good
12 string bean love...❤
Feder loves ya❤
Chrissie Hynde looks great with lighter hair! Bravo!
Bosses!
Saw these support Simple Minds last year and they were far better than them. Her voice is still on point ❤️
Chrissie was actually married for a while to simple minds front man Jim Kerr.
Valerie ✨️ amour J'tadore
JHS what could have been...r.i.p 🙏
J'aime bien les petits grelots sur les cymbales
Like Brigitte Bardot !! Oui oui , ici aussi on aime les prétendants
She is so fucking cool
Audio is WAY too low !!! But thanks for trying anyway !!! Peace !
The bass should dominate this song. Just like Pete did it in the original.
If I could be Chrissie, just for one day!
Chrissie must be in her seventies by now and she still out there rocking and singing as fresh as ever there must be something about that vegan diet.
Hall of farmers . for sure.
When you're down in the gutter ' there's no where else to go but up. Just saying.
Just about as good as the studio version..
It's good. Like Brigitte Bardot.
"It's good, good good" - extra good.
With a n

You sound bitter. It’s not a good look

Love the original band, and the song, but this lead guitarist is out of tune.
I was thinking the same thing. Slow as well.
John M - totally agree. Sounds bizzarre
no he isn't
He isn’t. It’s just chorus (or maybe flange) he’ s using. It’s on the original track.
Chrissy and Stevie Nicks are so fantastic!!!
Her wig looks spiffy. It's a cover band. No JHS. No Pete. A pre-heart attack Chambers. It's a shell.
