I don’t think that Mike reference was about the beef. In my mind that entire first verse is setting up for the second. The first verse to me is him laying out his upbringing until now sharing light to why he is who he is today. Then second verse he’s just laying it out addressing the beef. He ends giving love for Drake
The timing of this is perfect for me. I feel like if he was to release it soon after the beef and everything people wouldn't have even given him a chance. They were so angry and they needed time to process and see in the end how right he was, which is what happened. A lot of people after seeing the way the beef went, the amount of hate and anger in the songs appreciated Cole for it, this song has only come to confirm everything.
