  • Got myself this classic DSLR from 2005 at a very silly price but how does it fare?

The D50 has a Sony CCD ICX-453-AQ sensor. They are more sensitive to light so blown out highlights can occur. This camera's sweet spot is in bright daylight. So sunrise. It could struggle at sunset because of the limited ISO options. When I've seen people struggle with this it's always in shadow area photos. Gotta feed this beast some light. This is one of those cameras where I would say take it out mid day.

The D50 was my first DSLR, great camera and I got some shots that I love with it, but the resolution is just not enough these days (at least for my purposes).

I’m thinking of getting one of these especially if there’s a cheap ultra wide lens available for it… I was also inspired by Robin Wong and looked up more videos on it and found this one… surprised to see someone testing it out practically round the corner from me!

Another Oxford lad? Glad you enjoyed the video! One of the old Tokina, Tamrons or Sigma would be the best cheap option for this old cam.

Its a fun camera for the nostalgia. I find it over exposes a lot of the time so have it set on -0.7 to -1.0 mostly and shoot on raw. Shame no monochrome mode, but it’s fun to use.

I had two of them, for that size of sensor it has only 6 megapixels and that pixels are big and makes nice look. Im thinking to get one ) another use is to pair that camera with intervalometer and do fantastic timelapses. The raw files are quite good with a lot of information. Only 2gb card is the issue but got two of them )

I never had DSLR, but I had fun with a affordable Micro 4/3 camera (pany GF2, loved the interchangable lens.)

It was a Panny GF1 that started me off taking photography a bit more seriously! I currently have two M 4/3rds cameras (Olympus) and plan to use one to shoot future videos with (phone was okay but cant see what I'm framing on)

I use the same combination: D50 + 50mm series E. I love the photos. You might like a 28mm on it. It’s about 42mm in full frame. Nice photos. That one of the bull is excellent.

Its a really nice budget combination! I used to have the E 28mm but sold it some time ago. I might have to source another! Thanks for watching the video!

Try it with the 35mm f1.8g

Can pick up an old Nikkor AF 50mm 1.8 really cheaply these days and it will work great on that. I like the images from it, but always use a D200 instead when I'm in the mood for using a CCD sensor camera. They're also cheap and give you just a lot easier to use with those old AI lenses. I have a E Series 50mm as well

hey man! that's great, what lens are you using with D50?

Oh yes :-). The D50 is a great DSLR. I had seen also Robin Wongs video and than I bought one with three lenses, because I wanted the lenses for my D3000. The only problem was that I can use this lenses on the D3000 only with manual focus. But that is not a real Problem. I tried the D50 and now I like it nearly much more than my D3000 :-).
With greetings from lower Bavaria and sorry for my worst english.

Greetings back! Your English is better than my Bavarian! :-)
The D50 is so enjoyable and simple to use its hard not to love it!

@@irresponsiblepictures7451 I agree and the D3000 is also simple to use and makes fun. Here a tip for a lens to use on the D50. Try to look for a Nikkor 18-55mm. This is the kit-lens for most Nikons. There are many on eBay and not to expensive. It works very well with the D50 and in most cases it is good enough.
So long and have a nice time :-).
