      I can't think of anyone better to collaborate with Metallica than Lang Lang as far as choosing a classical pianist to rock with. Lang Lang is so comfortable and never afraid to explore the unknowns. Plus, with his natural showmanship in front of audiences, I think Metallica must have appreciated Lang Lang's presence along with them. It was an eventful collaboration.

    if you are metallica, and you have played this song thousands of times normally live over a nearly 30 year period, ( expect for the 1 off S & M conert) you are entitled to have some fun with a remixed live version with a special guest, to help freshen the original song up so you dont get bored and keep it fresh and interesting, this is why i love Metallica, they dont give a fuck about breaking the rules with experimenting with their musical sounds, you dont have to like it, but you will respect it

      I'm a fucking fanboy so maybe my opinion does not count, but I agree with you. Metallica don't give a fuck, even if some fans do not like it "man, we're the fucking metallica: we were probably doing world tours before you were even fucking born. And you think you can tell us what to play and how? That's just not how it works."

    I love this, two different music styles coming together, idk why everyone wants Lang Lang gone, he's one of the best pianists out there and the piano doesn't even affect the song that badly. I think this is amazing

    • @Valkyrie0933
      @Valkyrie0933 7 років тому +21

      I feel the same way. I think the piano adds a more ominous tone to the already dark nature of the song, despite the fact that it seems very improvised from Lang Lang. I like this a lot.

    • @xXGamingFactorXx
      @xXGamingFactorXx 6 років тому +9

      The piano definintely adds a thicker texture to the song but there are some points where you can tell he's just improv and it sounds god awful but when he plays along with the song it certainly isn't bad, and the octave jumps are enjoyable.

      Simon Piano, no, his voice definitely cracked, but he's not much of a range singer. His singing is good because it has a crap ton of power like when he's shouting. As for hitting high notes, yeah, it's not the best. And no, his shrieking from KEA and RtL are not the same thing. Love James. he's amazing, even as a singer. But yeah, his voice definitely cracked there.

    This is one of the best things I’ve seen in a while.
    You can see throughout the performance Metallica start to come alive when they notice Lang Lang’s playing and how well it compliment’s their playing. Kirk’s solo in particular I noticed he kicked it into a higher gear, started expressing more with his playing and his face about halfway through. A beautiful show all around.

      biff supreme Metal has no roots in classical music. They may be similar in a couple of aspects but metal is just harder heavier rock, which originated from afro-american music. In any case its obvious the piano doesnt fit, its a solo instrument and doesnt blend into the melody with the other instruments. I dont think its lang lang's fault, it was probably just a stunt, reminiscent of the collaborative album we don't talk about....

    • @SynphamyMusic
      @SynphamyMusic 7 років тому +7

      All music has 'roots' in classical. It's a bit of a weak association though, just because Malmsteen and the like play very classical inspired music it doesn't mean metal is particularly influenced by classical. Most people pick up guitars because of bands like metallica, Metallica picked up guitars because of bands like Motorhead and so on. Just because you play guitar it doesn't mean Mozart is suddenly one of your musical ancestors.

    Lang Lang playing in a concert with Metallica is something I’d never thought I would ever see! But, if anyone else is familiar with his skilll, likes him, and can appreciate how talented a pianist he is, in this case he’s playing more as an ‘entertainer’ than usual. I wish most (except for the brief solo) of the sound of Metallica didn’t ‘drown out’ portions of the piano!! He did a few great performances with the 2CELLOS and the 3 of them were able to be heard equally (1 was ‘Live and Let Die’ at the London Palladium about 6 years ago), and that’s what I was hoping to see in this one. Oh well, I still enjoy it. (BTW - I’m 67 years old!)

      So true! Maybe in a way it’s the reason why there are so many negative and hateful comments on this video in general, Lang Lang, and the fact that he almost single-handedly ‘ruined’ this piece with Metallica! I think it’s bc those who wrote such remarks are NOT ABLE to recognize what ‘real’ talent and music is! Perhaps they’re just stuck in a rut, or can’t open their eyes to something new and different, like this!? Music is a personal choice and preference, and there is something that can ‘speak’ to everyone - for those who dislike this one so much, all they need to do is find the ones that do, that is unless they’re too lazy and narrow minded to take the time! I ❤ Lang Lang, and as a pianist myself for more than 60 years, consider him as one of the best ones there are - 👍 to him!

    Much like performing with the Orchestra a few years back, only Metallica being the kind of band they are could pull off a piano on a song like this. Or any of their songs for that matter, and the crowds in China,Japan they are incredibly respectful and appreciative of anything a performer does. I really like this and think it's just them showing how versatile they are. No body HAS to like it, that's fine but I personally love how they are all still together after all this time, and still giving us something different and of course things we know and love from them.
