sabaton reaction review rock reaction alex hefner deep purple child in time
"You don't hear songs like this anymore..." - a truer statement has never been made...
Andy Z because jam rock was discounted by punk. Thanks mr rotten...
It's rare, that's for sure. Certainly nothing of quite *this* caliber. Deep Purple were one of the pioneering heavy rock bands.
It might be the copious drugs that were involved in the forming of these sounds that take from today's music... maybe.
Absolutly right.
Certainly not on the radio, but great music isn't constrained by time. It's out there. Look for it.
Deep Purple aren't just artists. They're art professionals.
Everyone except Blackmore.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time. Gillan's screams, Blackmore's blistering solo. John Lord doing magic stuff on his hammond organ...and of course Paice and Glover's perfect rhytm section
Giuseppe Maggiò those aren’t screams, all he’s doing is going into his head voice.
@@rossmusic25 I'm talking about the high pitch screams before the solo
Wasn't David Coverdale also in Deep Purple?
Randy Smith yeah before Whitesnake he was the lead singer of Deep Purple between 1973 and 1976
Randy Smith Yes he was he was a complete unknown after Gillan left along with bass player Roger Glover they got David Coverdale and glenn Hughes...Coverdale was working in a boutique when he answered the ad in the paper about purple needing a new singer.. listen to the songs burn that’s Coverdale also the song Stormbringer from the mark 3 era.
IAN GILLAN truly one of the greatest rock vocalist ever
And Robert Plant The greatest
lest not forget ritchie blackmore
@@nibu7099 no
@@nibu7099 wrong. Plant copied his whole thing from Steve Marriott
Deep Purple need some more love. They are possibly the biggest influence on heavy rock and metal. They came before sabbath.
Greatest Rock Vocalist ever!
You're damn right my friend, You don't hear songs like this anymore. Sadly.
*That's why we call these songs epic or classics...or an epic classic.*
Yeah we don't. But would you be more happy if it were ? if we were doing the same thing over and over to the point that all taste the same and as no colour (like the pop shit on the radio)...? music evolve and it's normal that we don't hear the same exact kind of music than back then... you can stick to the past or try and discover new things. Because their is still really great music today if you take the time to scratch the surface. I'm not saying this to denigrate the music from the 70s or any other time because I love that music too. I'm a big fan of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep purple, Rush etc. I'm just saying that their is good music today too.
@@lilpoo22 thank you for your reply, and I agree... today there is a lot of good music, maybe not from those classics, but believe me I hear a lot of bands from several rock generes, I love Rock and Roll from the 50's and today's Progressive Rock, a beautiful evolution of those sounds.
Welcome to 1970, a time when players could play and singers could sing, this version of Child in time shows Deep Purple on the stage were they belong, their live performances were just amazing
It's a masterpiece.
It's a rare band where every single member is a virtuoso on their instrument. Deep Purple is one of them and it shows! If you like Ian Paice, the drummer, check out his drum solo The Mule, absolutely insane!
This is one of the reasons I have such respect for rock, hard rock, metal, etc... They sing, they sweat, each person is doing their part to make it what it is. Not only that but they usually write their own songs and create their own music. They don't get up there and do some choreographed dance moves while lip synching to some studio made songs, and the band isn't some ever changing background look for the main person up front. They worked together, they made music together, they worked hard, and it showed.
13th Nov 1975, Auckland New Zealand.
A date seared into my brain. 30 feet from front of stage, loudest band in the world at that time. Perfect late spring evening and music like you cant imagine. Set list highlights were Burn,Lazy, Smoke on the Water, Stormbringer, that was 45 years ago and I still love the sound of Purple.
Just like Nightwish, you have to experience the live performance to truly grasp how good the music is.
Deep Purple is STACKED with amazing musicians and vocalists!
Jon Lord, Blackmore, Gillan, Paice, Tommy Bolin, Coverdale, Hughes, Glover and on and on
All of their members past and present are masters of their craft, no doubt.
Yes, absolute masters of their craft. How lucky are we to experience their music?!
Glenn Hughes is singing for The Dead Daisies now. Some killer stuff there too
This is one of the bands that actually made metal possible and definitely influenced it incredibly. "Mae in Japan" is one of the most incredible live performances ever. . .
Seeing Deep Purple perform this live gives you chills they are amazing 🤘🏻💜
No one is a greater Deep Purple lover than me. No one! Made in Japan, the live album, captures the greatest band in the world in the raw! Such a positive influence in my life.
These guys aren't just musicians. They're composers.
Man, Jon Lord was such a great pianist.
So underrated
I miss him badly
So underrated, i agree!
He was considered the best
No Jon Lord no Deep Purple. He created the band
the octopus on keyboard it's John Lord
My mom hates this song so much. She says its like the dude got his balls stuck in an elevator. This makes my dad love the song even more. Lol.
Cool parents both of them lol
@@xebio6 yes they are!
your dad sounds like my kind of dude. :P
Lol my dad hated deep purple but my mother couldn't stop blasting them out loud everyday ✌️✌️
I chose the route of my mother haha
@@mikkifenton4674 haha. good Mom! and good choice form their son!
"Space truckin" is a good deep purple track to check out.
Basically the entire Machine Head album
And "Lazy", too
Those high notes he hits are epic.
One the things that I love about music from the rock bands of this era is that the songs were an experience, they took you through whole journeys in just one some, and watch out if you listened to the whole album! You don’t find that very often in today’s music. I still like music from the last 20 years or so but it doesn’t have the same epic and deep feeling that it did in the 60’s and 70’s.
This band got me started on rock and roll in the early 70's. They are all exceptional musicians and the music they made together was magic. For other great songs try Burn, Woman From Tokyo, Knockin' At Your Back Door, Strange Kind Of Woman, Space Truckin', Perfect Strangers. There are so damn many good songs!
Try the studio version, the audio is way more chilling! If you liked this vibe....Riders on the storm - The doors
I disagree..I actually think this performance is one of the best versions of this song
I actually find this live version far more effective
Well, the solo in the studio version is better
This version would definitely be better if the guitar solo wasnt so wank
I think the Made In Japan version is better
This is DEEP PURPLE ! This is CHILD IN TIME ! On your Knees and pray to the God of Rock ! This is EPIC !
Child in Time crowd was STUNNED. Look at the faces on some the kids. Bet it changed their lives forever.
Welcome to the best Deep Purple line up evah
Ladies and Gentlemen , I present to you Deep Purple MkII :
Ian Gillan - lead vocals, harmonica, percussion
Ritchie Blackmore - guitar
Roger Glover - bass
Jon Lord - keyboards, backing vocals
Ian Paice - drums, percussion
no, it does not get any better than this.
*drops mike*
Cheers
-=DD=-
One of the best song eeeeever, I loved him to, when he was singning with Black Sabbath on the album Born Again…!!!!
Agreed. Totally underrated album.
Ohh yes my friend
"God damn! Ocotopus on the organ!" 😂
Never before or since has such a group of geniuses set foot on a stage.
This is my all time favorite classic rock group. They are all extremely talented!
Jon Lord on keyboards was a musical genius who wrote many classical pieces. One of Deep Purple's albums was Concerto for group and Orchestra. Ian Gillan, the singer, was Jesus on the original Jesus Christ Superstar album.
That audience had no clue what they witnessed
They were told to remain silent because it was being recorded.
I mean, it's better than people shrieking
The History of Metal.....Icons with Iconical Song....listened to it about 1000 Times over the Centuries...never everget tired....this is what music is all about !
One of my favorite bands when I was a teenager early 1970's, very cool to hear it again.
You are on a roll lately, bro! Especially of late... Skid Row AND Deep Fucking Purple??!!?! Can't thank you near enuff for hittin' up the classics. Suggestion: you've already done Highway Star n Child in Time, so now you've got to do Deep Purple'z Space Truckin'. You will not be disappointed. You're righteous az fuck, Alex. Keep it up!🎸🤘
Just recently discovered your channel and the positive energy is addictive. Ritchie Blackmore has been my favorite guitarist for 40 years. Been binge watching your metal reaction videos with my son, Ritchie (actually named after Ritchie Blackmore). We both loved your reaction to this and the one where you listened to Rainbow's "Stargazer" (another Ritchie Blackmore band). I recommend checking out Deep Purple's live version of "Lazy" from the In Concert album, it's a bluesy one with another awesome guitar solo.
Jon Lord, along with Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman, the greatest triumvirate of keyboardists in rock history.
You just watched one of the greatest rock bands of all times my friend. Enjoyed it
Awesome reaction. You said everything correctly. Every note, every scream, it is a haunting, fabulous emotional roller coaster ride. Love songs like that. Wished they had done this song when i seen the 2 shows on this tour they just did with Judas Priest. Check out Perfect Strangers (my favorite), Highway Star, Space Truckin, Knockin At Your Back Door, they have soo many killer tunes. Thanks.
These guys were just out of this world. The singing and playing on another planet.
Grew up listening to deep purple thanks to my dad. I love this group so much.
My mom (born 1956) LOVES this song. When I'm driving her somewhere, this HAS to be on the playlist (next to Manson, Backstreet Boys and Beethoven - she has a great taste in music). Unfortunately - for my ears, she loves to sing along. Yes. Every part.
Interesting how we are diving into the history of rock and roll and music per se.... not just one genre! Nice....
Something to consider. This song, Child In Time, was released on their 4th album In Rock released in 1970 -- 51 yrs ago. The same year 1970, Led Zeppelin released their 3rd album Led Zeppelin III & Black Sabbath released their first two albums Black Sabbath and Paranoid. Those 3 bands pretty much wrote the blueprint for hard rock and metal. Deep Purple singer Ian Gillian was Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson's biggest influence. Please check out Perfect Strangers, Black Night, Speed King by Deep Purple.
It was worth standing under pouring rain to see these old guys live... i could barely see the stage of the massive amount of rain. But damn was it worth it! I wanted to see another band that played but since they mixed their live preformance with eachother i made my choice by watching Deep purple live.
At this stage they had the best Guitar/Drum/Keyboard combo in existence.
Recommend "Perfect Strangers" and "Knocking at your back door". 🤘🤘
Good ones too, yes 👍👍
It's got to be Highway Star from Made In Japan
No f****g way that you just listen to this song!!!
Cheers guys
This freaking song it's so brutal
The studio audience were told by the producer not to react because it was being filmed for TV - I saw them live about six times in the early 1970's and the audience reaction in the concert hall was always wild - very talented and exciting band.
Perfect Strangers is a cool tune from when the original lineup got back together. in the 80s.
before my time, but so so many amazing bands came out around this time, that today are just known as GOATS. Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath..so many more even onto bands like Genesis, Queen. then look at today...nope not one.
Best thing about this is that it was filmed on a Daytime Kids TV show in Manchester England. Other than the band nobody was stoned!
This song is pure brillance, nobody will ever top it, even if it's not my favorite... the musicianship is impeccable.
Huge Deep Purple fan from back in the day. I saw them last year. Not all the members of MK II are around anymore R.I.P. John Lord and Richie has been long gone, from the band, but it was still a great show. If you are liking DP check out any of their many, many live albums.
Late 70's me and my mate Ken used to run back to his house at school lunch time. Binged on Picnic bards and Fanta whilst listening to Purple on his dad's high end hi-fi. Ran back to school with our ears ringing. Happy days.
There aren't many bands that had members who are/were all amazing at what they did. Zeppelin, RUSH, Deep Purple, Sabbath.........very few. But each one of these guys mastered their instruments, and the combination is truly more than the sum of its parts. 5 unique guys with unique talents, like a team of all-stars......like the '92 US Basketball team. :)
Dude this band is so epic in so many ways. The whole Made in Japan album is a revelation and a giant slap in the face. They are gods.
Deep Purple was and always will be my favorite because they are the best !! Just wait until you hear HIGHWAY STAR , or BURN , or RAT BAT BLUE , or LAZY , , , or , there's too many to mention here !! Hey , keep on jammin !!!
Jon Lord, Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Paice are killin this one and u can hear all 4 instruments if u listen accurately. U dont find that nowadays very often.
One of the greatest Songs ever written and performed!
I must have gone through this explanation at least half a dozen times tonight and this is the short version. The audience is sitting so quietly not because they are all on thorazine but, because they are stunned. The majority had never heard anything like this before and that is because "heavy metal" was still a new innovation, a new genre. Its progenitors are traditionally listed as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin (though arguably some other names could be added). This show is from 1970, the last year of the 60's, and heavy metal was still under development but, I do believe that it's safe to say that it caught on.…
They didn't get the applause they deserve....so very true
Finally, I requested that song since your 4th metal reaction.
Real instruments, pure voice singing, now there's a good sounding concept...
Saw them in summer of "73, the MKII lineup, best of all the lineups. There was no calm and sedate response. They had the arena rocking. I was drug free at the time but had an out of the body experience during the concert. Only one I've had.
Deep purple is one of those bands where everyone was one of the best ever in their roles.
Thank you for Finally picking something off my list !

I was a senior in high when this album was released. I had been listening to the previous DP lineup (different singer and bassist) for 3 years before this. I had the privilege of seeing them live with this lineup. Ian Gillan didn't really need a microphone. His voice was so powerful that it carried over the rest of the band. Ian was actually the lead vocalist on the album wersion of the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar". An unbelievable talent. That was a great time to be alive!
This band is pure genius at enhancing there music with the keyboard. No other band incorporates it better 👌
Gillan in you better fuc*** performance!!!! I Love this band!!!!
Notice Ian Paice drop his drumstick at 8:30 and it fit the song! What a God!
Overwhelming indeed. Saw them do it live in '73.
Ian Gillan is one of the top rock singers ever... And Blackmore is awsome on the guitar... Jon Lord on piano/organ - amazing, Ian Paice - so great on the drumms...
One of the most iconic bands for sure. Wish that there was similar bands today...
Believe it or not, Deep Purple are still touring & making new records after 50+ years.
My favourite album is Made In Japan, widely regarded as one of the best live albums of all times.
This my friends is called Music with a capital M !! vocal, spiritual, instrumental...all comes together here. And no, this was live, no overdubbes, no computer technical ironing flat the errors, no shining up the voice....This is what the called Music back in the days !!
Living Colour- Cult of Personality
Gillan, Lord, Glover, Blackmore and Paice has a really amazing chemestry musically.
Deep Purple defined Hard Rock music along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath! Deep Purple is my favorite from the 3 though, I was lucky enough to see them live, and God this song...this song is definitely my favorite by them!
I was so glad to see you check out Deep Purple again! My all-time favorite band! 💜
Space Truckin
Speed King
Burn
Stormbringer
Hush
Smoke on the Water
Perfect Strangers
...or... for shits and giggles... try their BRAND NEW song called, "Throw Them Bones." 🤘
One of the all time great bands Deep purple!
Lazy another musical masterpiece
Speed King , space Truckin
ACDC - live at River Plate Stadium (Shoot to Thrill)
Check out when a blind man cries its beautiful
Yes!
I listen to This song all the Time, and I cry... don’t know why, maybe because of its majesty.
The type of this song really reminds me of Stairway to Heaven. Ive just discovered it yesterday and thw first thing I noticed was the slow, chill start that got faster, louder and harder. Eventhough unlike Stairway to Heaven, it doesnt climax in the end but within the song.
I`m so glad I saw them live before Blackmore quit. 1993 in Oslo, Norway. We didn`t think this song would come, because Gillan had probs with his throat and had had surgeries earlier.
Just love DEEP PURPLE!! Please play more!
one of the best rock songs of all time
You're witnessing the beginnings of an entire genre of music. Deep Purple, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, laid he groundwork for heavy metal. It's quite possible the audience had never seen or heard heave metal before this, and there was probably a lot of "What the hell did we just watch?"
"You don't hear songs like this anymore..." Listen to Dream Theater. If you enjoyed this react to Deep Purple - Burn Live at the California jam. When this band split up an number of great bands were formed, Ritchie Blackmore formed Rainbow and bass player Roger Glover joined him. Ian Gillan formed The Ian Gillan band, Drummer Ian Paice, Jon Lord and the third singer David Coverdale formed Whitsnake.
Fireball by deep purple is one of the earliest metal songs out there! Absolute banger.
Black veil brides- in the end
Anything black veil brides would be great tho
George Wade I agree 200%
deep purple got me into metal. my favorite deep purple song is fireball and knowing alex he’s gonna love that badass drum intro. another great song is their brand new song Throw My Bones or Perfect Stangers
Deep Purple is definitely a legend. I grew up on them Seen them once in concert. About half the songs for a little more than half from that generation was about the Vietnam era. Deep Purple does mix it up from songs from Vietnam to just really good songs I like Smoke on the Water that was something that actually really happened that's why the song is named that because somebody was playing with a flare gun they did burn that person's house down. Exxon rock band. It's basic rock music it's not a heavy Rock but as consider now classic rock. Because they were the Rock at those times and eras along with the rest of them. Most of their songs are high adrenalin type songs.
Deep Purple was one of my fav bands of all time. Specially this particular line up.
They have influenced many bands. Ian Gillan was probably one of the greatest influences on Iron Maiden's vocalist, Bruce Dickinson (fact told by the man himself), and even in more recent musicians, Ian Paice is one of Akane's (Band-Maid) fav drummers...
I would love that you could check "Burn" from a different line up, a different vocalist: David Coverdale (later formed Whitesnake)
Most underrated drummer of all time, in my opinion.
one of my favorite songs ever
