Thank heavens, I finally found this movie! I was starting to think that this film never existed and I made it all up in my mind. Years of searching and stress and latent OCD can now finally wash away... It’s rather comforting that I wasn’t the only one looking for this film but also a very strange coincidence.
Good movie but absolutely GREAT book! I read it as a teenager and re-read it often. Each time I take away something different. I'm surprised it hasn't been turned into a full live action movie yet, like Narnia.
They are actually working a new live action adaptation. As of 2018 it was still in the works hopefully one day the world will get to see it. Currently reading the book to my 5 and 3yo. They absolutely love it
I still read it from time to time as an adult. It was one of my favs as a kid, and reading it so many times I think it actually shaped some of my thinking and humour skills as an adult.
I hope to god it is never made into a movie. There’s so much wordplay and cleverness that would be completely lost. I never saw this animated version, but the trailer alone made me mildly ill.
I was surprised I got it as my first result. I googled "movie that had a kid travel with a car through math land". Cause that's the most i remembered about the movie. Can't even remember the tollbooth.
AthreeP What I actually remember about this movie the most is the boy driving through and him using a piece of chalk to create objects by drawing them in thin air. The only thing I remember him drawing was a door that when finished, it materialized.
You feel old? I had memories of this cartoon since the 80s. Today is the first time I bothered to look it up. It feels like yesterday when I saw it though I remember only one scene with the doldrums. Even remembered their name.
I remember being vaguely unsettled watching this as a kid. I do remember liking a lot of the aspects of the animation style that was used to draw this movie; haven’t seen it in at least two decades.
Movie turns 50 today! This is still one of the best film adaptations ever. I remember reading the book back in elementary school and watching the movie in class. Both are perfect. The movie never got the giant exposure when it was first released since MGM sold off their holdings. It made learning about words and numbers interesting. Even using proper use of grammar with the importance of rhyme or reason balancing out chaos. The animation is terrific being done by Chuck Jones of Looney Tunes fame. Learning can be overwhelming for any kid but the book and movie make education fun. The main character Milo perfectly conveys the audiences feelings.
We had to read this book in school last year and i loved it. I had never known it was a movie until just recently. I was always thinking what it would be like if it WAS movie, yet I never knew it was already one, lol. It has extremely meaningful lessons in the book and movie, and is very inspirational. I haven't watched the movie yet, but I'm exited to soon.
RIP Norton Juster. I actually told Butch patrick that I loved his performance as Milo. He told me he had an idea to tour with Juster with the book and film to show it off and sell autographed books. Sad that may never happen.
I actually remember seeing this movie during my Elementary years. Me and my fellow classmates were reading the Phantom Tollbooth book. While we were all doing that, we ended up doin a lot of projects and fun activities involving the book, which included creating paper artwork on what we thought what the monsters looked liked. And then, when we finished the movie, our teacher ended all of this by having us watch the Phantom Tollbooth movie. Needless to say, it was a fun time.
At last, the algorithm sends a core memory of elementary school back to me. For us 90s kids, we got to watch older cartoon movies and live films from the 70s in elementary school. It was a blast I will tell you. I thought this was one of those educational films teachers showed kids back then. Either way! It is a happy Monday indeed over here.
oml i have been searching for this movie since 2009... i remember seeing it in my school english book and thought "hey that looks neat" but never looked into it... i could never remember the name of it, but low and behold I WAS REMINDED OF IT IN EPISODE 2 OF PARKS AND REC... its a good day
I've been wondering what this cartoon was I saw in the early 80's... for over "35 years!" I'd only ever since it 'twice' in my entire life! Sadly the author just passed, an inspiration nevertheless.
I have no idea what this movie is and only saw it today in a recommendation list which is buy the movie on YT. So I decided to look for the trailer. Interesting. I thought this was a Dr. Seuss story because of the animation is the same as the Suess cartoons. I might give this a look.
One of my fantasy movies since childhood in the eighties! This movie and Return to Oz (anyone remember that 1985 cult classic?) make a good double feature
I've been looking for a 70's era cartoon movie, my whole life. It was about a little boy like this but he finds a secrete passageway in his house goes somewhere, like down into a cave or something like that and explores a world. I must have been like 6 years old and I've never been able to find it. Now in my 40's there's not much of a memory left of it but I've always wanted to know what that magical movie was. This would have been in the early 80's that I saw it and it looked to be this era here. I almost thought this might be it but I would of remembered the car, I would have thought. I'm 90% sure or at least I always was about this; He finds the secrete passage in the kitchen, I was pretty sure in a cupboard or it could of been under a loose floor board and I was almost always sure, he went down, not just in, if this helps. If anyone ever reads this and has any ideas, please reply. I should probably include my other memory too. I seem to recall the little boy was talking to his mother too before he slips away. However I have no idea if that's part of the film or if I'm remembering my mother was there, in the kitchen while I watching the movie on tv and that memory blended but I do recall always having that memory. I also don't remember that boy and his mom were ever real at the start either. I do think the whole thing was animated from the start.
I saw this as a kid in my class and never rememebered the name and litterally just googled animeated film watch dog clock and found it god i love the internet
I was at school were we got a choice between a couple of books we would read over the year, I chose this one...... none of the characters look the same, there are pictures in the book so I dont know how they fucked up.

It happens to all of us, something you remember seeing as a child and it takes years to find where it came from.
Me too! I've been searching for years without knowing what to search for😅
@@douglasbrekke3043 Same also.

As a modern day teen it’s honestly my favorite book.
I hope to god it is never made into a movie. There’s so much wordplay and cleverness that would be completely lost. I never saw this animated version, but the trailer alone made me mildly ill.
There’s a stage play/ musical
Man this brings back good memories! I've been hunting this film down for days.
The movie itself is on UA-cam. I've watched it many times.
That bites. At least I still have the VHS version.
Me too
WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS MOVIE?... which website
I remember watching this movie in science class of middle or high school.
I literally just googled: movie where kid in car drives into animation
fuck I wanted to find this via google and almost failed... if only I knew these magic keywords lol
I was surprised I got it as my first result. I googled "movie that had a kid travel with a car through math land". Cause that's the most i remembered about the movie. Can't even remember the tollbooth.

Are you sure you're not confusing this with "ChalkZone"?
Nope! This is it! I'm so happy I found this movie. I can now show it to my kids.
I've never seen this movie, but the book was one of my favorites as a child. It's a fantastic book!
Remember seeing this on Cartoon Network about 17 years ago. God I feel old.
Don’t worry, I think everyone feels old at some point.
That's where I first saw it too!
You feel old? I had memories of this cartoon since the 80s. Today is the first time I bothered to look it up. It feels like yesterday when I saw it though I remember only one scene with the doldrums. Even remembered their name.
Me too and I’ve been looking for it for ages!!!! There was also a great Christmas cartoon that I still can’t find the name of
I love this movie. I think everyone should watch it. There is a great lesson to be learned from it.
I practically MEMORIZED this film, I watched it *soooo* much as a kid. WOW! What a nostalgia blast!
I can't believe how this movie popped out of my head out of nowhere and here I am watching this trailer.
I remember being vaguely unsettled watching this as a kid. I do remember liking a lot of the aspects of the animation style that was used to draw this movie; haven’t seen it in at least two decades.
I watched this as a kid! They still show this in elementary schools!!!
Cool.
The doldrums scene made an impression on me as a child
exactly!

I remember this one. I watched it as a kid. It was broadcasted around 2000 on Cartoon Network
I watched this on tv and on vhs in school so many times as a kid. Now it's an obscure and odd animated film from my childhood most don't remember.
Traumaqueenamy It's a cult movie that is why and on DVD at last
what else did they show, the toy warrior, party wagon, the scarecrow, return to oz animated version
This was my all time favorite movie as a kid! Great movie! Too bad they don't make movies this entertaining, tasteful and educational anymore.
Amen. Now, you can't have a decent kids' movie without two fart jokes and three adult references.
And a kick to the testies
That's right, I nearly forgot about the groin attack.
Greg Palmer And the amount of twerking while jerking off.
Didn't I mention Bubsy references and cat puns?
Saw this movie 30 years ago on TV & couldn't remember what it was called. Then one day, it just shows up in my recommendations.
RIP Norton Juster.
I actually told Butch patrick that I loved his performance as Milo. He told me he had an idea to tour with Juster with the book and film to show it off and sell autographed books. Sad that may never happen.
