I hope you have a great time with your mate. If it's not too late return your aarn backpack. The frame broke, wasn't waterproof and wouldn't stand up right by its self to pack. We returned it and got another exped backpack. They are light waterproof and almost bomb proof. November would be a great time to walk it. We are thinking of doing another 200km in October.

Awesome vids guys. i am planning on doing the AAWT 2019. and am soaking up any info I can get.
I can't imagine running one of the Aarn rigs with the massive pouches hanging off my front. I know they are supposed to balance you out but I reckon it'd be super annoying, restrict your field of view down and forward, impede use of poles and also encourage me to carry a hep of extra stuff I don't really need. Do you still use it or have you gone back to a more traditional design? Why didn't you guys use trekking poles? Even on grade 3-4 hikes I still take at least 1 pole....
DO you recommend the longer gap between resupply or get more caches out? I have read you can average either 5 days or 10 days between caches???

We did a small review of the Arn backpack in later videos of the AAWT and do not use it anymore due to numerous issues. As for trekking poles, we personally we don't like them. They ad more weight, they get in the way when taking photos on the move and although I am aware of the small benefit of transferring weight through the arms to the legs (reducing leg fatigue) I prefer to pack a lighter pack. I wouldn't use poles to walk does the street and therefore don't see the the point in walking with them. To me it is a bit of a gimmick, a marketing ploy. However I do use them in the snow. Food we can go up to 14 days in between drops. It is easier to plan and execute that plan. Good pack planning and equipment will enable you to extend your days between food drops. If you would like I can do a video on how to plan your pack for longer hikes of over 5 days.

Love your vids! Question ,with all that time on the mountains, dont you run out of food supplies ?With all that cardio , it make you super hungry.

We Carey about two weeks of food about 1kg per day. Over the years we have been able to refine the amount of food and therefore have no waste, little weight in packaging and with little sugar I the diet we get less Hungry during the day. That said we always lose a few kilos every trip.

Whilst the horses are beautiful animals (the ones not inbred and starving anyway), every time I see them out hiking i wish i had a gun. So much snow grass damage and the rest
