EEK-A-MOUSE '' MY LIFE '' THE COMPLETE INTERVIEW

  • Опубліковано 12 лип 2015
  • Eek-A-Mouse began his music career when he was in college, releasing two roots reggae singles under his own name, which were produced by his mathematics tutor, Mr. Dehaney. These early works were influenced by the music of Pablo Moses. He then went on to work for various sound systems over the next few years and also released a few more singles. He adopted the stage name "Eek-A-Mouse" in 1979, taking the name of a racehorse he always bet on; it was a nickname his friends had used for some time.He began recording for Joe Gibbs in 1979, having a hit straight away with "Once a Virgin", now showing the influence of Ranking Joe, and this was soon followed with "Wa-Do-Dem" (produced by Douglas Boothe), and "Modelling Queen", which began an association with Linval Thompson, who produced his debut Bubble Up Yu Hip album.
    By the end of 1980, he had linked up with producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes, with whom he had big hits in 1981 with the likes of "Virgin Girl" and a recut "Wa-Do-Dem". In 1981, he was the star of the Reggae Sunsplash Festival, cheering audiences still mourning over the death of reggae icon Bob Marley.His association with Lawes led to a string of successful singles and albums, and in 1982 his hits included "Wild Like a Tiger", "For Hire and Removal", "Do You Remember", and "Ganja Smuggling". The same year he released his second album, Wa Do Dem.The "Operation Eradication" single showed Hylton's serious side, the song inspired by the vigilante killing of close friend and fellow DJ Errol Shorter.Skidip was released before the year was out.
    Further albums followed with 1983's Mouse and the Man, produced by Linval Thompson, and 1984's Mouseketeer, again produced by Lawes. He also featured on several of the live dancehall albums from the era, including the Aces International and Live at Skateland collections. In the second half of the decade his popularity began to wane slightly, and he targeted the United States with the Assassinator album in 1985 (his first US release), produced by Anthony and Ronald Welch. He also travelled to the United Kingdom to record The King and I the same year, the album targeted at the rock crossover audience to which he had begun to appeal.

    My heart aches to see a great man like this man going through so much pain. When your child is taken away from you by no fault of yours, it destroys you. He is so wealthy in spirit though so I am looking forward to seeing him become whole once more.
    Sending you positive vybe Eeka. Legend you are, legend, you rock.

    Mighty blessings from Groningen. He was several times upon us with his magical songs. Always will remember his warm and humble welcome by inviting us all audience on stage to dance and chant his words together. Together on stage with a great teacher! One soul one love against opression and capitalizm by the wicked. Shout out to for Mr Junior Byles. May creator watch over you. Peace and thanks.

    We had a club called The Jungle Night Club. We have made an effort to consult with other clubs in the NorthWest that booked artists from all genres. Eek- A- Mouse one of the artists flagged Red. We decided to go ahead & we couldn’t have been happier about our decision. He was sweet, approachable and professional. My wife and I still talk about him. When ,we heard he was headlining a show with Morgan Heritage in Ashland Oregon, we drove through snow & ice to see him. White American youths Love him !! NO ONE showed up until Morgan Heritage finished their set.

    It was sad when the Eek was done wrong by those who wished to do him wrong; but that only elevated the Mouse in my Opinion.

    I saw some comments alluding to some mental illness, and at this point in the shite world of identity politics, people need to be more conscientious about applying labels to things or people, and what could be the ramifications of being wrong. That’s a thing called mutual respect. If he’s crazy, I’m crazy. The man is full of expression, obviously, but aren’t so many of us? How do you satiate the hunger from within? You communicate what is flowing through you, in whatever way gives you the exercise the mind and soul need, save for harming others. And again back to the harming others. He has been harmed. How do we define those things that could harm others? We can’t be 100% descriptive to cover all and every. Just common human decency and respect for the lives of your fellow. We can’t predict how a label can harm, no, surely not, but ask how such would or would likely affect you? This man is in control of himself; by my view more so than the AVERAGE. He is free, yet bound, expressive yet censored from the dirty nasty truth. Gloss it over. Shine it up. Don’t make it more true. With profile and charisma comes weighty sensitivities. And by this type of sensitivity I mean having the sense to sniff out a rat. A bitch rat. Or to see the good where it may not be so plain. He is an artist, and a professional at that. And thusly must travel extensively. Any friends and family would hopefully show respectful consideration for this demand. Provided Mouse keep good, but live well. I’ve worked with Mr. Hylton a few times, as house engineer at a 1000 seat club in the southeast. So set up all the gear for the band and work with them to make sure all is right on the tech side of things. In walks Mouse. I’m 6’4”. I looked UP at him. He is freaking lanky as hell, I think about 6’7” at least, and very outgoing, polite, and was Ann example of an artist who LIVES it. He was dressed in an outrageous and flamboyant cowboy outfit, if I remember right it was like burgundy with bright white stitching, maybe tassels. The cowboy hat, set just level, proper, not on the back of the head like a redneck. Matching pants to the shirt, boots, the Black Cowboy. My manager had given me a promo copy of the new album, Black Cowboy. Duuuuh. Totally forgot. Then I noticed that a lot of the dancehall guys would get all decked out for the gig. Super Cat wore this outrageous matching outfit, and I had these two smoking hot black ladies chatting me up for info on him , like how they could meet him. They were putting on about how he is a man of scripture and Jah, which I don’t doubt. But these ladies weren’t looking to be saved by God. They just wanted some Cat. And that due was also very talented. Bernie Man, Capelton, , Yellowman, Shaggy, Bounty Killer, Patra-good god that was a wild show, of course Steel Pulse, and Burning Spear, which is yet another story. Never pull out an ounce of fat buds when a dude with dreads to his knees asks if you got any makings for spliff. And there like five of them twisting up, and instead of passing, just toke. Due said every man fix his own dinner plate, every man make his own spliff. He then put a flattened rolling paper in one open hand, a huge pinch of MY bud in the other, smacked his hands together and rolled them across each other, with stem and trash falling in between, and expecting him to hand it to me, he says, thank you. Incredible show. But Eek-A-Mouse was one of the only ones I still listen to often, cause each time it will make you smile, laugh, groove, and enjoy real original artistic expression. He has an Incredible vocal range, and a delivery unmatched in music, and all flowing right through that crazy big ass head. As we say in the south, “that’s one bad motherfucker”. Big up Mouse!! Always cool. Great band. Sorry for the rant. They call me crazy Andrew and always have. Why? Hmmmmm. Mouse! Help me identify. You deserve justice. Even white boy here knows pain from injustice. And with that heavy pain, not compare to Mouse trouble. And the deck is stacked against him. Live Hylton!!

    Good Interview. Well said Eka Mouse. However, I regretted that you did not provide any solution on how Jamaica could control reggae and prevent the raping of Reggae music by other countries. I do admire Eka Mouse to be a positive brethren. His words that he would emerge stronger and better is realized through his new song: "Glory" with Saba Tooth. "Glory to the most high" Jah Rastafari.

    • @rmh_223
      @rmh_223 4 роки тому

      @@Dylansworldofgaming Babylon is slang for corrupt government or system. The United States for example seems to be losing its protection from GOD so it has been referred to as Babylon. The system is completely messed up just like Babylon became or maybe even began as, according to scripture. It was a land full of pagans that abandoned the one true GOD. Rastas refer to him as Jah or Jah Jah aka Yahweh.
