Nice review! After having used this camera with my bike for a few days now, I've found that my favorite feature is probably the steadyshot. It is just mindbogglingly amazing the amount of the shaking this thing is able to do away with. It's literally possible to run in a violent manner and still end up with perfectly stable footage. Amazing!
I agree. I can't wait to do a follow up video showing footage from biking and even vehicle shots. I was amazed on how smooth the video was after driving down a fairly bumpy road!
***** I guess it's probably a really good idea to invest in that lens protector you talked about, since I do much of the shooting without the housing. Probably won't take that much to scratch the lens. However I didn't find it on amazon. Do you know where one can buy it?
Thank you for this informative video. There are so many things on the market today. You have answered most or all of my questions about the Sony AS 100V.
I just ordered a AS100V and I'm thinking of getting a tripod adapter to go pro mount on I can use go pro mounts as the third party go pro mounts are a lot cheaper than the mounts.
You can also find the full manual by plugging in the camera with the micro SD removed, which will pull up the PDF stored in the camera's internal memory. A bit of a pain, but you can't say they didn't include it! ;)
Do you know if you can charge the camera at the same time as filming? I remember reading somewhere that you cant which would be a pain if you are trying to do a long time lapse video. Great Video and very helpful.
Have you noticed a big drop in image quality when using the included waterproof case? I'v seen on youtube that under water there are some strange distortions and if you shoot under water a lot you should get the flat lens cover. That being said, I don't need to film under the water but I do need to use the waterproof case when I ride my dirt bike and if the case makes the quality worse it's kind of a big deal. //Per
Why didn't you mention the ability to record audio through the water proof case? Also, doesn't your tripod have the ability to pop out the square insert in the top and turn it around so the camera would face away from the handle?
thank you for the video. I have one question please: Is the case the sony sold in ok for scuba diving? Can it go for example to 30m or will I need to buy another case for that? thanks sorry if you mention this in the video but my speakers are broken and can't hear you XD
I am new to the action camera world but have some history w photography. goin surfing and body boarding in october and am wondering about mounting this camera on a boogie board, surf board or using a floating wrist strap. im assuming i could do all three but not sure how easy or interchangeable they would be. really did this camera. dont want to buy the go pro. any thoughts? thanks
Just make sure you get a microSDXC Class 10 memory card if you want to use the VAVC S Format. a standard SDHC card will not work in high bit rate modes.
Per there instructions: Images recorded in a microSDXC memory card can not be transferred or played back on a computer or AV device that is not exFAT*-compatible (via USB connection). Before connecting, make sure that the device is exFAT-compatible. If the camera is connected to a device that is not exFAT-compatible, a prompt to format the memory card may appear. In this case, do not format the memory card, otherwise all its data will be lost. * exFAT is the file system used by microSDXC memory cards.
hi,show me the sizes of battery, cards slot ,charge time for battery, any lens teleconverter ,dive housing ! why I need this cam ? sports ? running! diving? sky diving? ski ? show me !!!
Ok,,, so you have to be able to open up the bottom to get to the "aux" port to plug in a mic,,,, so that means you can't make it truly rain proof (mounted to a motorcycle helmet, riding in a rain storm... ) and plug a mic in... That's a damn deal breaker for me...
What software should I use for editing videos and sharing them on youtube and Facebook? Does the waterproof case mess with the video quality because I want to use it as a head cam for fishing and I think the only way to mount it to your head is to have the camera in the waterproof case.
No, you can attach the camera with the included adapter to use without the housing. You will always get the best video and audio without the housing, but if you think you might go in the water, I would still use it.
Ok good thinking, what software should I use for editing videos? I have a toshiba laptop. Do you know how to delete memory without formatting the card?
Just got this, what memory card works with pro mode, I got three different cards and none of them work (tried format them exFAT). How much video can you capture in pro mode with a 64GB card?
I used my cam mostly as a dash cam. The only problem I ran into is it is difficult to push the red record button. You need to hands, one to hold the cam steady while you use your other hand to push the red record button. Because the cam is usually mount to a suction cup mount to the windshield it's not a solid mount can will move your line of sight if you try pushing the record button without holding the cam. I use the same mount for my NAV system but my NAV has a touch screen so there is not much pressure when touching the screen. The alternative is get the remote wrist control, they cost around $100. I'm hoping Sony will come out with a remote app for my iPhone like the GoPro 3+ camera.
nice to purposefully leave out the fact that you cant use external mic when on tri-pod when u mentioned u can use the charge port while on tripod, why did u leave that out, were u embarrassed or something 0..............
Instead of that rig you built you should just get a real video camera, they have a monitor,,,,,I have both a Sony Action cam and Sony Videocam... each has a different purpose..
They both have their benefits...the optical image stabilization is very handy, and the Sony is better in low light! However, the GoPro is handier to mount in many situations and in good lighting has better overall video quality.
After using both, I went with the Sony. The GoPro definitely has an edge in picture sharpness. However, in every other respect, I found the Sony to perform better and be more versatile. I also highly dislike the GoPro's form-factor. Never understood the whole square box shape of it. The Sony's "bulletcam" style is better suited for action. To each his own, I suppose.
I agree with most of your comments. Having owned both, they each have their benefits. If you want to mount it on your forehead or chest, the GoPro is much better to mount! However, if you prefer side head mount, the Sony is a better fit. Both are great, and with the new 4K Sony coming out, I will have to see what I can do to run both this time!

THANK YOU FOR THE INTRO TO THE SONY AS110. i'VE JUST BOUGHT ONE AND YES THE INSTRUCTIONS AREN'T USER FRIENDLY. iT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD LITTLE CAMERA.
Great review! You are articulate, cogent and instructive. Thank you!
You just made the guide on the camera so much more easier for me!
Thank you for this informative video. There are so many things on the market today. You have answered most or all of my questions about the Sony AS 100V.
Glad to help!
Terrific review! Thank you so much! I am not a tech. person so this made getting the Sony and using it MUCH easier!
Thanks for the great reviews, what you think better go pro 4 silver or Sony in your opinion?
Wow i really like some of the features this thing has
As do I!
Picked up this cam a week ago and it really puts my GoPro Hero 3 to shame. Great buy

It should work even if the micro SD card is still in the camera as well.
Do you know if you can charge the camera at the same time as filming? I remember reading somewhere that you cant which would be a pain if you are trying to do a long time lapse video. Great Video and very helpful.
Yes you can, but it cannot be in the waterproof housing
*****
Thanks for that Mr TechGooch! It looks like you can put it on a tripod without the waterproof housing on and charge it.

Great Video from Brisbane Australia.
+Peter McGreevy thanks for watching sir

nice. tq. do you think i should buy the aka-lu1 lcd if i have the live view already?
Only if you want to use it like a traditional "camcorder". I didn't see any use for me.
ok thanks dude

Agreed, I would recommend a Class 10 card regardless!
Does the cam have a side Panal for better looking
hi,show me the sizes of battery, cards slot ,charge time for battery, any lens teleconverter ,dive housing ! why I need this cam ? sports ? running! diving? sky diving? ski ? show me !!!
Nice review, can it make time lapse videos?
Yes you can!
*****
Is the software you use for creating time lapse videos included with the camera or can you download it from Sony?
yes you can
Awesome vid maN
Thanks!

Correct, but that would be with any of the cameras on the market.
Wait...why isn't there any footage from the two camera?
head or chest mounts? Also how do you know what your taking a picture of or how you're framing it with no view finder?
Use your mobile device as a viewfinder!
+techgooch How do I connect to the cellphone?

thanks a lot..
So apparently, we can't plug a mic in there while its on a tripod?
Yes, one of the problems with how the mount works.
How many hours you charge this camcoder? can you give us an idea
What would you say battery life is with GPS switched on?
Just got this, what memory card works with pro mode, I got three different cards and none of them work (tried format them exFAT). How much video can you capture in pro mode with a 64GB card?
I would put the card in the camera and allow the camera to format the card. I have several 64GB Micros SD cards and all work fine!
Make sure you have the card inserted the right way though, it can be put in backwards in the Sony.
Can this be used as a dash cam? I Know the hero3 has segment mode where it will record over old segments.
I used my cam mostly as a dash cam. The only problem I ran into is it is difficult to push the red record button. You need to hands, one to hold the cam steady while you use your other hand to push the red record button. thank you for this video. does anyone know how long it takes to charge the battery?
I would say 0-100% is like 4 hours
Also do you know where to buy the lens cap for the camera what it sout of its waterproof case?
It is waterproof too 5m/16ft for 30mins
You can purchase the lens protector online, the model for the cap is AKA-HLP1
Can I charge it directly with cable or just to computer?
Direct or to computer, both work
Good intro, thanks!
Is the pro mode really better than 1080 60p normal mode?
In pro mode, you get higher bitrate video, and it is of higher quality with less compression.
Thank you sir!
How deep can the housing that comes with the camera go to?
5 meters
What sd card do you recommend? Sandisk 64gb extreme class10?
Class 10 is what you need, you don't need the Extreme cards, 30-40 MBps would suffice.
nice with gps and the apps
Does it need a micro sd card or sony micro card?
Micro SD. I don't know if it accepts the sony cards, I know the older one did, but Micro SD is what I would recommend anyway.
I shut off my GPS mode, top GPS red light goes off.
nice to purposefully leave out the fact that you cant use external mic when on tri-pod when u mentioned u can use the charge port while on tripod, why did u leave that out, were u embarrassed or something

awesome i can finally say that i own Zeiss glass! lmao
just put electrical tape over light for incognito
Cheap fix!
hey techguuch how do you change video settings on this piece of shit bro, can i record slow motion? is there like apps to do stuff like that?
Instead of that rig you built you should just get a real video camera, they have a monitor,,,,,I have both a Sony Action cam and Sony Videocam... each has a different purpose..
#longestreviewever
gopro is way better, don't make the mistake of getting the sony.
No reliable skeleton frames for the sony and no external mic.
They both have their benefits...the optical image stabilization is very handy, and the Sony is better in low light! However, the GoPro is handier to mount in many situations and in good lighting has better overall video quality.
