  • Some people have kindly asked to know something about me. As I have just passed my 70th birthday, I have made this short chronology. I recorded it three times, trying to make it shorter each time ... and its still too long. Apologies.

      Hi Robert, a number of folks asked me to make this. I felt a bit embarrassed. My father bought a TV way before WW2, and of course the BBC service closed down until after -but as a not quite 4 year old -I remember watching the Funeral of the King - in 1952 - see ua-cam.com/video/oh0JJcf4z6A/v-deo.html. Less than a month later, I also remember getting my blue tricycle for my 4th birthday! My mother had a beautiful voice and took lead in school productions but was sadly run over by a truck when young which ended her aspirations. She encouraged me to play drums, as that was my first passion.

    Andy,
    George form Montana here. I was born left handed and I too was looked down on for being a lefty. I was the only left handed kid in the class and the teacher decided to make me use my right hand for everything. I still cannot write legibly with my right hand. I am also left eye dominate and left foot dominate. My son is left handed as well, along with my two great grandchildren. I consider all left handed people to be special and I consider you one of the family.

    On a rainy day here in Virginia Beach going back and forth between playing all these guitars vying for attention i am also surfing UA-cam for the odd bits to keep me interested and perhaps inspired and along comes your channel out of the blue. I have a keen interest in multiple Eastman guitars at the moment. The only one i have owned so far was a glorious ES335 type i bought back in 2008 and then sold later. I have cruised thru a number of your video's and i dig your vibe. More Music !!! I go to school in a sense daily with UA-cam and am learning more now at age 65 than i did the first 35 years at least that i was playing. Started when i was 10 in 1965. Cheers, hope you're fully recovered from the throat cancer too.

      Hi Rich, thanks for making contact. Just to discuuss Eastmans, I traded my 2007 Archtop for my Waterloo in 2016, lovely archtop but too electicd for me and it wasn't being used. I missed it oimmediately so bought another, no p[/up when a sunburst one cropped up on ebay - see - ua-cam.com/video/vdaRZpWx4eo/v-deo.html. Last year I went for an Eastman flat-top anE20-P (size "0" ) which is a delight, see ua-cam.com/video/8WaP3dpulXI/v-deo.html and a couple of months ago saw a blinged up size 00 which I went for ; ua-cam.com/video/C274kLswyAo/v-deo.html which is a level above the perfectly good E20-P
      As you might have gathered I love my Collings guitars but I have to say that these Eastmmansv make good stablemates. Thanks for the kind thoughts of my health - I'm checked out every three months -three years down, two more to go. The Treatment has challenging side effects which I have to cope with daily, but that, apparently, is the cost.
      I'm delighted that you have found my videos of interest, I recognise the reqiuest for more music but in this time of plague I'm getting little inspiration presently, and there is the matter of two trigger fingers on my left hand. However, please let me know if there are any aspects of guitars or playing that you'd like to see a video on, as I confess I tend to run out of ideas! Oh, BTW - if you fancy one to one zoom meetings, and think I might be able to teach you anything (a crass assumption perhaps) please let me know.
      My best wishes for 2021 ...whatever it may bring (!?) and stay safe.

    Since I first started watching your channel the better I’ve gotten on guitar has made each video mean more than it did before if that makes sense? The same can be said of listening to your story as I never realised that you did the pretty normal thing of always liking the guitar but taking so many years to get around to start learning seriously. Your decision to care for your dad in a time when Alzheimer’s wasn’t nearly as well known was a very selfless act that not everyone could see themselves doing. The recent BBC news story of a husband caring for his once internationally renowned doctor who had Alzheimer’s was tough to watch due to his 42 attempts to get some respite just to give him a break. Not unlike our experience despite the passing of time. I don’t know if you can recall the reason for you finally deciding to learn? I can tell you that mine was because my grandma who bought my Yamaha LS6 (nice guitar) the fact that an independent care commission found that during Covid lockdowns the care home that we put her in was found negligent and so I made myself a promise to put in the hours in the knowledge that she bought me it to make me happy. How you left out eloping with the Rolling Stones I’ll never know👍

    Thanks for sharing Andy - I knew you'd have some interesting tales to tell. I really envy you your early years in London around that fantastic burgeoning R&B scene. One thing that didn't come up (unless I missed it) was any mention of Skiffle. Did you have any interest in that scene? I was unaware Ron Wood had an older brother which I found interesting. I've always been a fan of his work plus he's a brilliant artist as I'm sure you are aware. You certainly have had your share of ups and downs my friend. I didn't catch the name of the condition that seized up all your joints but it sounds terrible. As if that wasn't enough you wind up with Cancer that I'm assuming is in remission. Ain't life grand? The main thing is you are still here enjoying your beautiful guitars and regaling your guitar picking brothers and sisters with tales of daring do from back in the day.

    • @SillyMoustache
      @SillyMoustache  6 років тому

      Thank you. The first "45" record I bought (1959?) was by Lonnie Donegan! Skiffle certainly got people playing guitars but it was the punk rock of its day because nobody knew how to play their instruments... but they had fun anyway ... and no spitting.

    • @scottmatheson2390
      @scottmatheson2390 6 років тому

      lol Yeah Lonnie Donegan is about the extent of my knowledge as far as Skiffle goes. Your Punk Rock analogy threw me for a bit of a loop but now that I think about I see exactly what you mean.There is something very potent and dare I say "revolutionary" in the mass epiphany that all you need is a cheap guitar and you to can be in a band.I'm sure that kind of widespread revelation has been the driving force behind many popular movements. That and massive amounts of drugs and alcohol!

It’s been nine months and the healing is so slow that the pain is still so bad I can barely play. I fear my playing days may be near the end.
