- Bill Anderson singing a beautiful song 'Papaw's Sunday Boots! which he co-wrote with Joshua Ragsdale, a promising songwriter who lost his battle with leukemia at only 32. Joshua Ragsdale endured debilitating chemotherapy and a string of worst-case health scenarios. A marrow transplant scheduled for spring was cancelled when the anonymous donor backed out. The man later agreed to the non-invasive, blood-draw procedure, but by then Joshua Ragsdale had contracted brain cancer that required further chemotherapy, the donor then backed out a final time.

I had first heard this song at my Great Grandfather's Funeral back in April of this year. It nailed me straight in the heart and brought pretty much everyone in the room to tears. For me it reminded me of my Papaw, who was my Great Grandfathers son. He passed away before his dad after a nasty battle with skin cancer, and I was by his side through all of it. Something about this song just brings out all the good memories that cause so much pain to remember. Even though he will have been gone for 3 years this December, it still feels like I hugged him just yesterday.
I just listened to this song again now because my Fiance's Grandpa just recently passed away, and the funeral was yesterday June 20th. This song will forever be a tearjerker.

This song reminds me of my dad he played both dad and grandpa most of the time Nc my grandpa was far away. I’m lucky to have my dad and I look up to him I believe this is what the song means are at least to me it does. I know I’ll never be able to fill his shoes or boots.

There is so much Joshua in this song. I had the great pleasure of writing with him. I knew every time I walked in a writing room with a good hook we’d walk out an hour later with a decent song. Sometimes they were so sad we chuckled. It always brought to mind the writers that wrote “he stopped loving her today”. They were on a fishing trip and decided to write the saddest song ever. Joshua and I set out with that goal.
