  • I'm trying to survive on selling circuit boards from my garage.
    How many Playstation USB-C circuit boards have I sold? Can i now retire? Or maybe i lost money doing it? In this video i will show you all the details.
    And can i make my own robot for manufacturing these boards?

    Hi, I’ve been following for a long time and been in the discord for a long time. One reason I haven’t bought yet is because I am waiting for the JDS-030 version to be listed for sale lol. I check your website every so often and so far it hasn’t appeared (understandable and no rush).

    LOL. A fun video. We all have different motivations for selling our creations. For me, I’m just happy with the thought that I might be helping out a fellow enthusiast. If I happen to make a few dollars along the way, then that’s welcome for helping to fund some parts for my next project. 🤓

    i believe it.. i collect antique car parts to sell on ebay.. and ive been building computers for 25 years and overclocking and benchmarking since i was 11.. im 36 now.. and so when i find over head consoles on specific Jeeps that are notorious for going bad.. i replace the buttons and caps and crystals and boom instant $200 EACH board, sometimes i gatta bypass blown traces.. but still.

    Marius, I'm huge fan of this board. Can you provide more details on the PCB manufacturing? I've designed a small board and did a quick quote simulation on PCB Way (I'd really like the matte black soldermask with ENIG), but on low quantities it's really expensive. You have any tips on getting a better price for low quantities?

    You should start 3d printing better versions of back paddles than are already out there. A lot of the ps5 back paddles need work (I’m looking at you Scuf and extremerate.) Also if you made an easy kit to add 2-4 more remappable buttons to the dual sense edge I think you’d make a killing bc nobody wanted only 2 back buttons for a 200 dollar accessory

    Ok finally we have an awesome idea for this channel!
    Loved it!
    You rather be more successful selling "robots and tools" than pcbs for an "old" console. Sorry to be honest - but now i believe you have a successful ideia!
    I've subscribed to your channel because of your awesome ideias on building useful tools, and not because of this USB pcb (which IMO i don't see it as useful).

  • @bikeybikebike

    In my opinion your board is the best designed of a small number of choices, the price of yours is comparable. The board is cheaper than replacing the whole controller, even with postage.
    Whether people in various countries buy your board is not only a function of the cost of your board and their income. The cost of the PS4 when new is probably a bigger barrier and changes the size of your market in each country. Also I think all your social content is in English so maybe the number of people that speak English is also a factor.
    I’ve seen some other less attractive but functional ways of adding a USB-C connector in the hand grip for example, if price is a factor maybe these methods are chosen.

    • @MariusHeier1
      @MariusHeier1  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I agree with all your points. Most countries on my list is not English-speaking countries. I should be able to generate subtitles for all my videos actually. Even though they will not be the best, it's better than nothing.

    Really loved the video and I'm looking forward to more. It's really cool that you are doing everything yourself but why not just outsource production to china and maybe even drop ship them at much lower prices to get more sales? Also, an Xbox controller type-c board would be awesome and might even be more popular with pc gamers as they usually prefer Xbox controllers over Dualshock

    • @MariusHeier1
      @MariusHeier1  2 роки тому +4

      Thanks for the feedback! The main reason i dont wanne outsource. Is that the channel is going to be about how to do this for almost no money. Without outsourcing. The board is not what is important. But the journey is :)

    Your board is for a PS4 so you'd have to be able to afford that to need your board which rules out all but the richest countries anyway. Time=money so I'd not re-invent the pick and place. I'd spend that time developing more products to sell instead. I'd either redesign the board to be easier to assemble (use through hole where possible or larger SMD parts) or look at having the surface mount components installed by the board house. Any extra cost for assembly can be offset by lower costs for lost yield and your time.

    • @MariusHeier1
      @MariusHeier1  2 роки тому +1

      All valuable points! I redesign the board to be easier to assemble already. New boards are on the plane as we write. I will probably "reinvent" the pick and place. But that is because I want to, and not because it's the smartest thing to do. The most bang-for-buck thing for me to fix right now is solder stenciling. Thanks for writing a comment with advice. :)

    • @jrnovosel
      @jrnovosel 2 роки тому

      @@MariusHeier1 Nothing wrong with having a little fun with pick and place. Most board houses will sell you a solder stencil for a little extra. I've used a mask before to manually apply paste and reflow using hot air for high density chips but not the whole board. When I design a board to build myself I don't go below 0603 parts if at all possible (0805 is better) A decent stereo microscope and fine tip temperature controlled solder station (I got an eBay one with hot air too) will be very good investments.

    • @MariusHeier1
      @MariusHeier1  2 роки тому
