I’m really new to rabbits (only a month now) and we just had our first litter born last night. I’ve watched a few of your videos relevant to this and thanks so much for all the info. This channel is my GO TO when it comes to learning. I think some of the most useful info is about how to care for momma! Thanks so much again for all your really useful info! 😊
Thank you so much for this video. You couldn't have timed it better. Our doe had a single kit earlier today. The second was stuck/dead and the third one was also dead. We have another first time mom with so many kits she can barely handle them all. I didn't know it was so easy to let them foster. Now all the buns have siblings and no mom is overwhelmed.
2 of my does gave birth last night and i didn't have a nest ready they gave birth on the hutch and as soon as i saw them in the morning i managed a nesting box but I'm worried because I'm new into it and i just had them for a month now. I got some goat milk for them but idk if i should wait to handfeed or let them do it. I'm super stressed now

My experience with raising rabbits so far has been rough. I have two does and one had 3 kits on her first litter, they all died in 3 days. She had 8 on her second and one died at 2 weeks for seemingly no reason. Her other 7 are 7 weeks now. My other doe only had 2 kits. One died after 3 days and then her one was very well fed. Almost too well fed. It died on day 8. Burying babies is hard. On top of all that, in an 8 weeks span, a raccoon had killed both of my bucks. I now have a momma with dead babies and no bucks to rebreed. Just been really tragic for us.
Sorry to hear that. I’d try new young Rabbits you may see a big difference. Here’s a video to help with predators best of luck ua-cam.com/video/gDSpNeRozBw/v-deo.html

Great video as always bobby. I just had my first litter born yesterday and I am expecting one more today or tomorrow. I took your advise in past videos to breed 2 does at a time. Thanks for all you do for the rabbit community
you can simply adjust the height of the water nipple -water bowls aren’t entirely necessary. We use the bowls because of freezing temps here in michigan. the nipples will freeze quickly unless your using heated bottles. As early as 2-3 weeks they should be hopping out of the nesting box and making their way over to the bowl or bottle to start drinking. sometimes we introduced a bottle when the temperatures are right so a big litter can have a bowl to drink and a little extra but when they’re drinking out of a bowl regularly they’re not used to the bottle so we’ll dab a little peanut butter on the tip of the nipple, they will investigate quickly and start drinking.
I have a surprise liter 5 days old today .. and I’m binging care videos but I’m having trouble finding specific answers.. I have also heard this. They’re your rabbits and you can breed them however you like. But here’s why i wouldn’t entertain that. This mostly stems from folks wanting to get started. Litter sizes grow in time. The second and third litter will most likely have more kits then the first, regardless of starting early. It’s best to keep rabbits in your breeding program that have good numbers every litter. 6-8 for a first litter is considered normal anything less is put on the watch list. When you breed a medium size doe before 6 months their instincts haven’t fully kicked in yet and they don’t do a good job nursing their litter. Also, it stunts mamas growth. This will take her longer to grow out. Best of luck!

Good afternoon. Love your channel. Got my first two Does a few days ago. They are 6 weeks old. Today one suddenly passed away. What could have caused this???
I'm sorry to hear that. It's hard to say. 6 weeks is young. They're still developing at that point. It's important to provide them a good amount of fiber (hay) daily and most importantly feed them the same diet they've been eating. And slowly transition them to your diet. If you purchase another try to pick up at two months or older. They should be a little stronger by then.
Sure, what are they eating? what’s the manure look like round firm & dry. Is their cage floor, feeder and waterer getting washed? How many litters have been lost?

@TheRabbitryCenter Thank you so much! We ended up leaving her alone and she started acting more like herself. She did eat the placenta and other bloody bits like you said that she would, too. Even though we had 2 losses, it looks like she has 6 more that are still alive. Maybe they'll pull through and everything will work out. Not too shabby for her first litter. Thanks as always Bobby! From from Nigeria and i have been following ur videos each time u post a video n i have learned alot from you 😊 Pls what's the breed of this rabbit called on this video ,the once that are white and brown spot ?
You two can try splitting up the chores so she can enjoy them on some level. She can still enjoy the breeders and the arrival of the adorable baby rabbits and you can be the one to process when they hit their grow out age. Try to be patient with her and slowly educate her about farming rabbits and why rabbits are truly here. It isn't to just be cute, it's to feed the wild and the world. That's why they're so prolific. This balances the ecosystem and prevents hunger. Sure, you can eat food in the stores that are filled with chemicals, but you don't have to. There's a healthier way. If you're willing to do the work you can grow your own food. I'd explain (when she asks why) Rabbits are easy to raise and Rabbit meat is very nutritious. But they're cute and that's the biggest hurdle. it took a few years for my wife to come to terms with it. Best of luck convincing her because it's good to have a helper. Help. I just found a baby and wasnt expecting it. Am i supposed to take dad out of the cage before he eats them??? I only saw one lil baby rabbit. Any other things i must do???. I did find the baby burrowing under some cardboard.
Mammals get oxytocin from eating the placenta. Sometimes if you don't allow it to eat this, the mom won't feed her babies because oxytocin is critical to motivate her to want to mother her offspring.
Thanks for asking. Like a punch(not a pinch)of salt. More than a pinch but less than a handful. The amount of oats that’s in your fist when you put your hand into the oats and make a fist.
My 1st rabbitry has been a disaster. I had created a 6 feet undergrounds beautiful habitat to protect them from the Texas heat. All went well for 3 months. Then in one week they old but one died. They died deep inside their habitat. I tore it down and realized it stunk of ammonia. Most likely they poisoned themselves with their urine. I thought they would come out to pee, but it was not the case. They were staying deep inside most of the time. But of course we had a summer of hell with 114 degree days, and 55 days over 100 degrees. So they were coming out just to eat and drink and were spending a good 22 hours per day undergrounds. I will try again with a habitat just one to 2 feet undergrounds that I can have access to to clean up. Also I will give them access to an area where they can dig their own habitat under a pile of big rocks. Maybe this will work better. If that colony does not work, I am done trying to raise rabbits. I do not want to raise them in cages.

@@TheRabbitryCenter I have a rabbit hutch 2 stories the mom be upstairs with the kits .. any suggestions tips they are inside.. umm i am just confused I watched the video and the only thing that I’m doing different is I don’t use the nesting box she makes a nest to in the hutch with the cage stuff and hay and I haven’t introduced water and 16% pellets at 3 to 4 weeks I ain’t tried that .. do you think that could be the cause of death
How much oats
Handful/ punch every other day
I will keep a rabbit that has smaller litters because she will be my go to if I need to foster others. She can always take a few others. For the moms I like to give them about a tablespoon of a mix of Black Oil Sunflower seeds, rolled oats and Calf Manna.
Thank you for sharing
Awesome. Curious as to what you feed your grow outs?
Pellet, hay and oats we process at 10 weeks

My doe just had her first litter a few hours ago. 2 of the kits didn't make it, but my doe has been breathing very heavy and panting a lot. My wife is extremely worried and I'm not sure if this is normal. Any advice would be appreciated, man. Hope all is well with you and yours, too.
She's still in labor Id just give her some peace and quiet and she'll clean the kits and eat the placenta and rest
Keep making these informative videos and I'll surely keep watching them. You are fantastic!
@@kaisawheel6286 Good to hear. Congrats on the litter.
I just had my first litter 8 days ago. I have learned all I know from your videos so thank you so much. I have 5 new Zealand and I am worried they don't drink enough. I fill all bottles but they go days being full. I change the water daily and give them a small bowl in cage for extra water just in case. But I feel like it's weird they don't empty the bottles at all ...any ideas?
Sure try putting a dab of peanut butter on the nipples. This should get them to inspect and discover there new water source.
Awesome brush up video to remind me of the little things. Breeding them at same time is cool, I didn't know that the doe would actually take on another does kits. I luv the get these little nuggets of important information. Your the best Rabbitry on you tube Bobby Could you please do another video with an awesome song from you and your guitar? From Washington State on the northern, eastern corner on the Canadian border, a little red spot in the middle of the Colville National Forest
Thanks for watching Im so glad you find the videos helpful. Guitar request? Are you trying to make my day? 😂 I'm looking forward to playing 5 songs when we hit 40,000 stay tuned...
@@TheRabbitryCenter You're getting close! I can't wait lol 3.5K to go!
I cannot get my bunnies to feed other mom's bunnies. So how true that is I don't know
My silver fox doe sits in the nesting box all day lmao
They’ll do that.
great info , thanks
You’re very welcome!
Is it okay or a good idea to feed bunnies fresh pasture grasses? (Rabbit tractor) how young should they be to start on tree hay? Thanks, Bobby… this has become my # channel!
fresh grass has vitamin’s and minerals but a variety is best. tree hay can be fed as early as 3-4 weeks. thanks for watching. A lot more info on our feed course if you’re interested.

You're very welcome!
I put the nesting box in a week before 😂
My wife wanted a couple rabbits up to 20 🤣 she hates me can't wait to try some fresh meat tho 16 are kits
Yea i’d recommend separating the buck to his own cage and leave mama to care for there litter. best of luck
Mammals get oxytocin from eating the placenta. Sometimes if you don't allow it to eat this, the mom won't feed her babies because oxytocin is critical to motivate her to want to mother her offspring.

How much is a punch
I have never heard that term
Thanks for asking.
Like a punch(not a pinch)of salt. More than a pinch but less than a handful.
The amount of oats that’s in your fist when you put your hand into the oats and make a fist.

You say it give a "punch" of oats to the momma doe. How much is a "punch?" 1/4 cup? 1/2 cup? ...?
Grab a punch in your fist
Interesting. It's challenging to raise rabbits in that climate. Thanks for taking the time ti share your experiences. Best of luck on your new setup!
