- In this video I take you through what Microsoft Copoilot is (formerly Bing Chat / Bing Chat Enterprise) and how it is different from Copilot for Microsoft 365. We look at generating images, generating email content and ideas for PowerPoint slide, and working with PDF documents and browser content in a secure way. Microsoft Copilot is available to anyone with a Microosft account - you don't need to be an enterprise customer or pay for a license to use it. Then we look at the difference between this and Copilot for Microsoft 365.

Regarding PowerPoint: With my Copilot Pro license (Microsoft 365 Family), I have been able to reference one (1) Word document (exact path) and create a presentation from it for about 2 weeks. Cool, because this is a key function for the paid version of Copilot for personal.

Microsoft has a reputation for making things as complicated as possible, especially when it comes to licensing. When you need a consultant to explain the differences between co-pilots simply due to a confusing product name and conflicting privacy statements, then I think they better return to the drawing board. This will lead to unhappy incidents… for the user.
The crappy thing is they finally get an app and functionality right and then they go and screw it with licensing complexities.
@@sheshd from a functionality perspective I’m missing settings that prevent employees to share sensitive information through the free public version. At least, if you’re not on some tier that supports extensive control over end-points… and yes, there are those licenses again. Everything seems to be included, until…

Love this video. I've been dreading describing the differences between these two to business stakeholders since the name change of Bing Chat Enterprise. Although I agree that overall, the re-branding was a wise choice.
Right there with you which is why I did this. Everyone thinks “Microsoft Copilot” is Copilot for Microsoft 365 and I understand why. But there is so much more to it that people can use without that license that hasn’t had as much (positive) noise.

Great video, Lisa. As always. Our manufacturing company’s main application is an old .mdb Access app where backend data are stored in on-premise file server. Would it be possible to build a custom copilot (using Studio) to query & extract data from that database?

Great video Lisa. You mentioned in the video that to transfer a document into copilot you need to go into "file" and "transfer as a pdf" Problem is i cant see where the "file" button is when you are on the copilot page.. can you please explain this? many thanks!
What I mean here is that you can open a PDF document in Edge in the browser but you can’t open a Word document to use. So in word, go to File - then instead of save you should find an Export to PDF document. Then open that document in Edge to work with the free Microsoft Copilot in the browser.

First, thank you for taking the time to help folks like me gain a better understanding of AI tools.
I am a Lecturer so I use Microsoft 365, accessed through my institution; however, I do not think we have access to COPOILT. Also, I am a student, doing my PhD, so I have access to my university account and can use Microsoft 365, but I could not find if my University's MS 365 has COPOLIT.
So, what are my options? You mentioned using the Free version of COPOLIT, what is that and how I can get access to it?
Please help.
The free version of Copilot is what is shown in this video - it's a Personal AI assistant, like ChatGPT connected to your browser and you can open documents in your browser and work with them. You can do that with any Microsoft account with no license (unless your organisation has blocked you). The Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 (which sits inside Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook etc) is a licensed product, currently USD$30/user/month on top of your Microsoft 365 license and only available to enterprise customers with a minimum purchase of 300 seats. Most people don't have that yet
I constantly have to read what all the mSApps do because I feel many of the apps overlap or are the same with a different name.
You're right, there is a lot of crossover and the name changes and new apps are making it confusing and hard to keep up. Hopefully this was of some help

I don't seem to be able to summarise a PDF - it's redirecting me to different tools. Is this capability included in the "free" Copilot or is it just available in Copilot for MS365?
Are you doing what I show here? Opening the PDF in the Edge browser and then opening the copilot on the side? I’m doing that just with the free Microsoft Copilot license; you don’t need M365 Copilot to do that.

Windows just auto installed microsoft copilot on my windows 10 desktop. I find this more than annoying as should have been an optional update and is hard to remove unless you go into the windows registry as far as i know.
Lisa you might like to know that “copilot” is the web3 term for web2 “developer”. Whereas we had website developer, Facebook developer, app developer, now we have Adobe copilot, OpenAI copilot, hugging face and GitHub copilot Google copilot, and Microsoft as well of course. Copilot like Developer just means driving and working with AI of course. It’s frustrating copilot is used for everything but prob no different than the “oh, you’re a developer? On what platforms” dinner chitchat 😂

2 questions :) What exactly do you mean by Commercial data protection? Is Microsoft Copilot (formaly Bing) in a way similar to Chat GPT but free and less powerful?
Commercial data protection means whatever you type into Microsoft Copilot and what it returns are confidential - the data is not shared with Microsoft, not shared with the model, not used to train the model. So you can use it for commercially sensitive or private things. Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing) is like ChatGPT but connected to the context of what's in your web browser - I wouldn't say it's less powerful, just a different app using the same GPT model in a different way.

If you want Copilot in Teams and Outlook you need to purchase and enable the Copilot for Microsoft 365 license - $30/user/month, as an add on to your Office 365 or Microsoft 365 license.
Why aren't my Bing Image Creator boosts reloading to 100 boosts per week and what do I have to do to get new ones? And how much is it?

Copilot for Excel is part of the Copilot for Microsoft 365 license, $30/user/month and currently only available to enterprise customers with 300 minimum purchase.
Copilot for all our Policies and Procedure documents would be super-handy for employees to ask questions and find the exact reference.
I think that’s the top use case, you can build that with Copilot Studio and upload your documents. I’m working on a demo video for that.
the concern is hallucination! dont want employees receiving erroneous or downright fictitious information!

Except for our acceptable use policies, Microsoft’s terms do not restrict the commercialization of images created with these services, although customers will need to make their own determination regarding the IP rights they have in output content and its commercial usability, taking into account their usage scenario(s) and the laws of the relevant jurisdiction.
What about using it in incognito tab with a free account?
That will work the same as shown here, you will not get the commercial data protection.

Microsoft Copilot in Edge has a limit of 30 turns per chat and 300 chats per day. After that you’d need to wait for the next day.
Even if you show a program code to copilot, chatgtp and bard, they can't do anything
All fair enough. I just "updated" my computer and found that this "Copilot" thing had been installed. I didn't ask for it and since I'm actually literate, I don't need it. My question is pretty simple: _How do I remove it?_ - Again: I did not ask for this, I was never asked for permission to install it on my personal property.

How do I delete it from my computer? That's all I care about. NOTE: After writing this, I learned that it can be disabled in Microsoft Edge (even if you don't use Edge, it is running in the background). Go into Settings in Edge and search for Copilot, and disable all the buttons. I hate the way Microsoft keeps trying to shove stuff down my throat that I have no interest in.
I consider this cram down a criminal act as AI is a violation of my faith as well as property.

half of the tools are blocked from the store and i have it so i cant install at all unless i click on the box , i pay for my software that i use and i dont want any of there pay every 30 days software

What is a tenant?
The official definition from the Microsoft documentation is "A Microsoft 365 tenant is a dedicated instance of the services of Microsoft 365 and your organization data stored within a specific default location". Essentially it's your organisation's dedicated Microsoft digital space in the cloud - it includes tools like email, calendar, document storage, collaboration tools, all your apps. As a software test engineer, 365 copilot could be game changing. Imagine loading up a functional specification and having copilot draw up detailed test cases based on that document.
Exactly, this is a great example of how it will change things, I think it will automate and remove a lot of that type of work - so mhy recommendation is that if you're in a role likely to be affected that way, firstly learn the prompting skills to be able to do it well, and then work out what the real value is that you add to the client or software above and beyond that and do more of that with the time you have freed up. Easier said than done, but this is the opportunity and challenge we have.

There are no exceptions period.
“Microsoft Copilot”’(available to anyone) is the rebranded version of Bing Chat. That is not the same as “Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365” which has the 300 minimum licensing. The purpose of this video is to explain that. In fact today Microsoft have opened up Copilot to Microsoft 365 to organisations of any size, new video coming.

Bing's Copilot used to be good but nowadays the results are horrible.

I am increasingly disappointed with Microsoft products, they continue to dumb down 365, remove functionality and even programs (like Publisher). Their browser is 2nd rate at best and hiding of user controls within the control panel on Windows 11 is shameful.
