1989 was the beginning of Chicks mature phase, as I see it. He had done PLENTY of great stuff up to then, innovated in multiple ways, led and sidemaned many of the best albums ever. But starting with Akoustic Band, he had really found himself more deeply and naturally then before. His busic over the next few years was super consistently top notch. With Joe Hendersons Big Band, with Bobby McFerrin on "Play", his own "Time Warp" album, this was more complete sounding Chick then ever.
