    As part of a program that takes Disabled American Veterans on day trips, I got to go on a trip to Edwards Air Force Base and was waiting with other anxious and nervous Veterans on the ground, watching others go up in these really cool Gliders that they had for us. Well, unfortunately they ran out of time and I never got to go up myself. Oh well, it was still a fun day. And it worked out well for me. The people felt bad because I and another Veteran didn't get our chance in the Gliders, and they brought us back out there the next week and took us up in a Cessna training plane. Once in the air, the pilot even let me have the wheel for a little while, and do some flying. It was awesome. 🙂 Too bad the world isn't as peaceful on the ground as it is from the air

      Hi, it's nice for veterans to go on trips such as the one you joined to the Edwards Air Force Base, after all who doesn't enjoy a trip down memory lane? It was nice of them to come back and take you up in a Cessna, even allowing you take the controls for a while 😊. I'm glad you enjoyed the experience, the world is a different place from above, from a glider it is even more peaceful, the only sound is the wind rushing past the cockpit. I hope the video bought back good memories from your visits to the Edwards Air Force Base. Take care and stay safe. Tim.

    Tim, a stunning ‘film’.
    Gently rising & falling with the accompaniment: a great choice of restful music.
    I’ve already moved it from a tablet to the widescreen high definition TV.
    It is great background, contemplation almost mystical. Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Peter, this video is more of a screen saver than an epic adventure, it was intended to be a relaxing picture with a gentle music accompaniment. When the conditions are right I'll set the cameras up again to record the glider doing aerobatics, its amazing what these aircraft are capable of in the hands of a skilled pilot. I just go along for the ride, if the weather is quiet I might take the controls for a while, I'm not a qualified pilot, I leave the landing and taking off to someone who knows what they are doing. I'm pleased you enjoyed video.

    Phew! Well done Tim. A number of cameras firing away! Beautiful footage. I don't know how I would have felt at the tether release moment. Possibly looking frantically for somewhere to land! Great stuff and thanks for sharing it. Atb, Terry

      Hi Terry, I love gliding, it's relaxing and the world looks so peaceful from above. I've done it a number of times now so I know what to expect, the landing and take off can be a bit bumpy, otherwise the flight is smooth even when the tug plane is released from the glider. The airfield belongs to my brother, he is always happy to take me up, it gives us a reason the catch up and say "Hi". Sometimes the glider is launched with a winch, that is an interesting experience, its like being fired into the air with a catapult. I'm glad enjoyed the video. Cheers. Tim.

      @@Timsvideochannel1 Oh that is a useful contact too! 😃 I guess with a winch you’re extremely glad when that disconnect happens😂

      @@TerryMcGearyScotland A winch launch certainly gets you into the air quickly, everything is suddenly quiet once the winch line drops away, it's funny to see it drifting back to earth with its own little parachute. When gliding its best not to think about things going wrong, overall it's a pretty safe activity.

    Hi Tim! These are really great shots. The pictures have a resolution, a hammer. About 40 years ago you had to put at least one chili peppers on top of the television to make the picture a little sharper. And that was already called a masterpiece back then. Must be fun Tim, you've known me for a while. And now something comes, of course Cheers 🍻🇦🇹. Best regards from Hans.

      Hello Hans, gliding is fun, it's nice to see the world from above. GoPro cameras are small and in the last few years they have improved enormously. Considering the light was poor the results were much better than I'd expected them to be. Using Chilli peppers to make the picture sharper must be an Austrian trick 😊. My trip the Germany has just been postponed for a year, I tried to book one to Austria and the Czech Republic, it was cancelled as I was booking it. I have now booked to join a rail-tour to Poland in May. I'm going to have difficulty finding subjects to make videos about, if Covid allows I will try to book onto a tour to Switzerland at the end of March. Cheers, stay safe 🍻. Tim.

    Ah this video was wonderful to watch even though I wouldn't participate in it. I suffer from motion sickness terribly and also from fear of heights. Just going up the escalators in a shopping center and looking down makes my stomach turn. But watching you fly is a delight. 🤩✨ Beautiful sights of the English countryside and coast. Very well recorded. 🤗

    The music is well chosen and complementary. 👍🏻🎹 Thanks Tim! 🥰

      Hi, I enjoy seeing my home town from above, gliding is very relaxing, just a bit bumpy landing and taking off, once airborne it is quiet just the wind rushing past the cockpit. It was late in the day, hence the sunset and relatively short flight. I'd noticed one of the gliders was fitted with GoPro camera mounting points, so I was keen to see how well they worked. The airfield belongs to my brother, so it was easy to arrange a flight and mount the cameras. Now I know how well it works, I know I can arrange a flight later in the year when our local river floods the valley, usually heavy rain is followed by bright clear weather and blue skies, the river valley looks awesome from above when it's in full flood, like a giant blue lake with islands dotted around. I'm pleased you enjoyed the flight. Take care. Tim 😊.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  2 роки тому

      Cheers Bob, I'm glad you enjoyed it. On a good day when the ridge is working well (the South Downs hills) a good pilot can stay up all day. The airfield belongs to my brother and he enters competitions that often include flights of 100 miles or more. The flights I take are mainly local although I have strayed by up to 30 miles along the coast and maybe 15 miles inland. On a couple of occasions my brother has accompanied me to New Zealand where we part company for some of the time, I chase trains and my brother goes to Omarama from where he flies over the Southern Alps, sometimes as far as Milford Sound, the views are truly spectacular, although for my brother it's all about the flying rather than admiring the view. Take care and stay safe. Tim.
