Rest in Peace Mr. Harris. If this was all you left behind, I'd still count myself lucky to have heard you. Just so beautiful ... you made a Song from a Song 🎹 ❤
Barry keeps the bass player busy like someone in love. If you went an hour and a half with this one song, he'd still be finding the new places. Master Barry has a musical sweet tooth on this song.
Bud Powell would love this perfect tribute, SO beautiful. Much thanks for posting this gem. Long live Barry Harris. His relaxed mastery shines through every phrase he plays. Barry Harris can convey any idea he thinks of....and he thinks of such beautiful ideas !
I wonder what Bud himself would say about this. As far as I understand, the only pianist that he thought was better than him was Art Tatum. He wasn't very fond of anyone else besides Art Tatum, Al Haig, Buddy Kyle, Monk.
@@ScottlandShaffner0423 not to nitpick, but all he said about bill evans was, "he can play" -- unless there's more opinions about him from Powell that I'm not aware of.
Tyner is a fabulous piano guy as well. He moves with his blues colorization of a tune However, he sometimes gets lost in his chordal changes and becomes overly repetitive, with his flowery note cascades. This leads me to believe that he plays mostly by ear, not by note. Nevertheless, the great sounding chords he creates are very special indeed.
I hope he meant that while providing those repetitive patterns (hypnotic, as Mark Levine says ) he may have hypnotized himself and just kept banging mindlessly, only to remain loud enough to even hear himself over Elvin Jones' bombastics. But, as you probably know, that was the job, to provide a relatively static harmonic base and that tsunami of an underpinning for Trane to stretch out. . Not to play pretty, perfectly constructed block chord accompaniment for Tin Pan Alley and Be bop standards, which was Harris thing. There isn't the same opportunity or need for creating "forward harmonic movement" on a vamp over the 1 chord or on Blue Trane with Jones on drums. The music is going to keep moving forward even if you don't voice your chords "perfectly". I hope he didn't mean "wrong" because McCoy was as well educated and developed harmonically and as well in control of his voicing as Harris. Listen to Lush Life or his later version of Satin Doll and tell me he wasn't. I think Barry played too much up in his head, and didn't let go enough of his concept, his need for bebop authenticity , and his music too often sounds, unspontaneous, derivative of Bud Powell, and thus generic and lifeless as a result. This is good, but a lot of it is really dull .
Barry Doyle Harris (December 15, 1929 - December 8, 2021) . Another jazz nonagenarian. He died at the age of 91. Jazz is the vitamin that makes you live longer.
U don’t seem to make sense when u write. But I think you mean to say, Barry has the style of Bud Powell-and you’re right. Get your communication skills together, mate.
Simply the best hard swinging piano trio. Barry Harris was amazing.
Barry Harris left hand harmonizings are really wonderful

This is beautiful particularly the intro! I love Barry Harris & his conceptualization of diminished chords.
Such a tragic loss, but thank you for so many years of beautiful jazz.
Gorgeous. Harmonically perfect. Interesting from the first note to the last.

Wonderful !
Mr. Harris is a genius. There's none better where Jazz music piano playing is concerned.

If God could play jazz piano, this is how he would play.
I CAN ASSURE YOU GOD CAN PLAY JAZZ PIANO!
After all it is HIS GIFT, isn't it?
Psalms 82, YE/YOU are GODS, yet shall die like men. So yes, "god" played piano in the form of Mr. Barry Harris. May he rise continually. Amen.

It seems to hear almost the great Bud Powell.
What do u mean?
Harrys follows Powell's school.
U don’t seem to make sense when u write. But I think you mean to say, Barry has the style of Bud Powell-and you’re right. Get your communication skills together, mate.
B. Harrys plays one level under B. Powell. Clear ?
baribarium - yep, I agree.

You dont necessarily have to be in love to bump into things :-) You could be like my soul, drunk according to google s translator! :-)
Awful!
So are you.
But enough about you...
In my opinion, maybe he meant "Awesome"! ;) Because Awful-Awsome, Terrible-Terrific are some sort of words that are very confusing to foreigners....
