Years ago in the perfume department of David Jones a stunning young sales man in a sharp suit and pale grey nail polish told me, "perfume has no gender".
I was impressed by that and bought a mens perfume.
The young salesmen was impressed with my lover and sent us off with lodes of samples lol

Adore you! I m 50...yes, yes, I am! I have worn D&G since it came out in 1992! It is nearly impossible to find in the US, even the newer release of 2012 that you mentioned. I grad it up when I am in Europe! You review is absolutrly spot on! keep them coming, please!

All these years of wearing D&G and I did not realize the original version had the black square around the logo...I have always discarded the packaging and paid little attention to the details. This information is very helpful and I thank you so much!!! I am in the USA and will continue my search for this amazing fragrance. I am certain if G&G is relaunched you will no doubt let all of us red lovers know. Back to Grasse in August...How fun and good for you!!!! Dear ouch 110. I accidentally deleted my original post to you from about an hour ago. Will try again. Love your reviews and I am always excited when I see that you have a new posting. You are amazing. We share the same love...Dolce & Gabbano original red cap. I was introduced to this amazing fragrance in 1993 and it has been my signature scent. I was able to find a very small supply, my husband actually found two bottle last year, but find my supply dwindling despite my careful use and rationing. I have tried o find a replacement scent...Givenchy Dahla Noir (pretty but not unite there) and Chanel Coco Noir (love the body lotion and cream...perfume, not so much). I was in Grasse in May of 2014, hoping to find an amazing fragrance to replace D$G but I found I was totally overwhelmed and frustrated with scent. I left Grasse with one purchase, a bottle of Galimard Pele Mele...can't decide if I love it or not so much. I think I made that purchase because I love the fun name, meaning "all mixed up". I rarely wear it so, guess that tells me something. I found a seller on eBay that has 7 bottles of the original D&G, purchased in Europe, country of origin, Germany. I am very cautious. I respect and appreciate your expertise on fragrance and wonder what your thoughts are. Any comments or thiughts would be most appreciated. Thank you. Happily to you..,sally.

I am going to go again in August next year. :) Yes, it's a shame about Red Cap being discontinued but ya know....I keep hearing on the grapevine that it is actually being relaunched! I am not sure how true that is but it gives us hope right? So, about the german version, yes it is the real deal however, it is the newer formula. The italian version (with the black square around the logo) this is the older and better formulation. As long as the guy has good feedback then I guess that's OK? As always though, be cautious of Ebay sellers. I have seen it on a website called perfumed click . co . uk. I'm sure which country you are in but....GO GET IT!! It's also on fragrancex dot com. GO GO GO! (It's pricey but..it's worth it right?)
Just curious....when I was in Paris, I discovered "Mystere" from the House of Rochas. It has been discontinued and I am so so sad about this. I was just wondering if you knew it and also your thoughts on it....

Strangely I have gone off Boudoir but I have been ill and think that has effected my sense of smell.
That's happened to me a few times, your nose goes all funny when you are ill. i have had fragrances smell completely different when I have a cold. Weird!

Ohhhh the chocolately one? Ah yes I have smelled that one. I think for a gourmand Lover it would be exquisite! I personally have moved away from sweet scents so, I wasn't blown away by it. It's OK, Heavy on the chocolate with the Guerlain finesse, but...I'd need to do a proper smelling. I only smelled it breifly! :)
Boudoir is NUCLEAR. One of the only fragrances that have sillage on me and extraordinary tenacity as well. It's a sweet, rounded and soft kind of floral that's been zapped, amplified and then desiccated into some kind of radioactive flowery sweet vanilla powder. It's nausea-headache inducing if I'm not careful. I don't wear it anymore, but I used to in the same era when you filmed this video. This sort of performance is what I still hunt for in the niche world. Fragrances tend to burrow under my skin, like fuzzy, determined little moles who are committed to disappearing as soon as possible. Bummer. PS= The original 'Stella' gets NOWHERE NEAR the credit it deserves. It's one of those 'firsts'; a unique, really well made, ground breaking composition that is a touchstone reference and always will be. Why it's so overlooked, I have no idea.
Can you recommend a niche soft coconut? Or something similar to jo Malone rose water vanilla. I also love Hermès satal massoia
You could try Elephant by zoologist however, it does have a very leafy character to it. Guerlains Teracotta is also lovely, it's a smooth soft coconut with some lovely white florals. :)

Hey and dude ♥ to you and your bravery though you are right, the frgrance maybe marketed to women but it is more to do with how the ph balances in your skin can affect the fragrance too. ☆ and a thumbs up. I am just exploring my olfactory senses, am going to purchase Flowerbomb soon and Calvin Kleins Downtown is my favourite new discovery. New subbie from this newbie fragantican.

Mine is the original formula from when it came out. I actually haven't smelled the new one. I have tried to avoid smelling the new one to avoid disappointment. It used to be my signature fragrance so it's special to me.
Love your videos! How do you feel samsara compares to Shalimar? I tried out Shalimar for the first time today and fell in love with the leathery/gritty yet soft warm vanilla smell.. Even had a guy back track to ask what I was wearing! But now intrigued by Samsara as well.

Just very different, lots of sandalwood and jasmine, a lovely violet note too.

Do you have vintage samsara? Is it radically different from what is currently on sale? I hear guerlain made it specifically for Cathérine Deneuve back in the day. Want to hunt down a bottle of vintage as a New Year's present for the missus
I do have it yes. i have a the vintage EDP and the EDT. I also have 2mls of the pure parfum which is great. The vintage ones are dynamite! So much richer, more sandalwoody and luxurious. I hunt them down on Ebay like a sniffer dog haha.

I have tried the new fragrance they made but sorry it smells like sh** ! It's irreplaceable . I switched to YSL Cinéma which is more close to the scents I like but still not happy . Thanks!! :) Well it's a tough one as this perfume is so unique. I have never personally smelled anything that is similar BUT my sources say...there is a perfume called "Zanzibar" by a company called "Mahogany" lots of people think that these smell similar. :)

How do you feel about Guerlain repackaging many of their classic fragrances (Including Samsara) in the bee bottle? I'm okay with Insolence being repackaged cause I never really cared for the bottle and I actually like the bee bottle but Samsara is just not Samsara without that gorgeous ruby red bottle :(
I don't like it!!! haha. I wouldn't mind as much if they hadn't reformulated things AGAIN, the new Samsara is shocking. :(

In regard to Thierry Mugler Alien I was unable to Find Something smells similar to it in all Al rehab perfumes.
Anyhow, with respect to Samsara Someone said that it smells similar to Al-Haramain Hajar, but I haven't tried yet

There is a website in the USA sells perhaps a dupe of the Alien, but I haven't tried myself

True. With perfume, it depends on the taste of the wearer and the skin chemistry. I wear Chanel No. 5 really well, but also pink sugar and Ed Hardy for Women:)
I hated Alien as well. I sniffed it in store and thought it was so rancid, I didn’t understand. Black Opium is another that turns horribly on my skin, I was so upset about that one
Nice to see other guys that don't view perfume through specific gender lenses. Basically, if it smells good and you love it, wear it.

Hello!! Well they are all very different. In terms of quality I would go with Alien, Chanel Allure is gorgeous but doesn't last as long as Alien AND is much more expensive. The Jimmy Choo I think is the least interesting. I would do a side by side skin test of them all if you can to make an informed decision. :)

Hello! Greetings from London. Ya know, I have been asked quite a few times to review the new version of Stella. The thing is, it was my SIGNATURE fragrance for so long, I'm a bit worried I'm going to be hugely disappointed, selfish I know. haha. I can only say from experience that, 99% of the time? Reformulations are shadows of the previous formula, always a richness and depth gets taken away, and as Stella was already quite a crisp watery icy rose? I would hate for it to be pale. I WILL smell it one day, but I'm still trying to keep my old signature fragrance alive. It will NOT be a positive review I dont think from what I have read. I can imagine it still smells VERY similar, but the longevity will be gone. :)

Yes! Samsara or...maybe Michael Kors which I call my "other" signature". It changed a year or so ago when they repackaged it with the dotty design on the box? It also changed once before that too only slightly though. The big change was when they relaunched the new packaging. So..hopefully you have the old one!

Femme online, but I've never ever smell it before.... and I don't know what to do! I have my 3rd big bottle of CK ONE now - for everyday use and Salvador Dali Dali Classic (this white one) - not for every day ;) . I love Dior - Midnight Poison, but unfortunately it is no longer available... I am not sure if Joop! Femme will be too strong scent for me and cause a headache or it will be just perfect to wear for night... What do you think? :)
Haha aww thanks. Hmm..ya know, Joop! Femme isn't a safe blind buy. It is definitely one that I could imagine would give people headaches if overs prayed. A lot of jasmine and heady tones so, if you can, try and do a skin test first. It's a bold floral. For night time? yes..it's not casual enough to wear all the time I don't think but then, I don't really follow the rules when it comes to perfumery. As I mentioned there is an obvious animalic tone to it too from the civet so, bold florals, incense and animal notes all together? not the easiest to like. Be cautious. :)

And my favourite male perfume is Narciso Rodriguez - for him - musc collection (this one with silvery bottle, can't find it anywhere to buy now :( ), this is such an extraordinary and mysterious scent, and it lasts very long! Do you know it? :)
+MadWoman Ahh You're welcome! I haven't tried the Narciso one for men although he does really know how to use Musk very well. I usually sniff "for her" all the time hehe. Oh Givenchy Pi, I LOVE that fragrance it's gorgeous. Wear what you like I say! :)

Oh wow that's so cool!! :) You can get the original only on Ebay really, and they are quite hard to find. The new formula is different of course but still it's easier to find. Just look for the box with the black square on it.

SykPaul It's really hard to reccommend a perfume for someone you don't know. :( Do you know what kind of perfumes she's worn in the past? Or can you remember any of their names? It will give me an idea of her taste. :)
She did not owned any top brand perfume, she only had like this crappy cheap ones, that's why i want to surprise her with a proper one. She's a simple lady, she doesn't stand out of the crowd, maybe something simple, feminine, and with consistency.
Ok, so if you want something nice and simple that's feminine. Try DKNY "Pure", that's really nice and inoffensive. "Chloe" by Chloe is also lovely. The one with the bow on it. It's a beautiful simple rose perfume. "Vera Wang" also. It's shaped kind of like a pyramid with orange liquid. Very classy but not offensive. :) Let me know how you get on! :)
What type of crappy, cheap ones did she wear? Crappy cheap florals? Crappy, cheap orientals? That might help with identifying a quality perfume of a type she'd like.

Hello! Ambre Sultan I wasn't too fond of to be honest. I found it a bit messy. Some of the recent one's I have tried which have been great and do not break the bank are Voile D'ambre by Yves Rocher (So beautiful) and Reve Indien by Fragonard. The Fragonard smells a lot like Shalimar but less animalic. Both are great. You could also try Amber Mistyque by Estee Lauder. :)

Unfortunately they no longer have it here and I can't find it online but only the Le secret. Definitely will check out the Voile D'ambre because you said it's so beautiful :D
It certainly is beautiful. It's like a hybrid of Samsara and Shalimar. A very very exotic Amber fragrance. I got it recently and cannot wait to wear it more in winter. :)
