The video didn’t mention the goal of using cover crops in the experiment. But from my understanding no-till should go first in order to help the soil to retain moisture. It is because the residuals left on top of the soil will act as isolator to slow down the evaporation. Meanwhile the root left behind help the water infiltration. From there the next rotation would include brassieres as part of the cover crops mix which could act as bio-tillage instead of using the machines.

Does it count as a cover crop if you till it up so the soil is no longer covered?

Do you see monsoons at all in the summer fall after wheat, so as to sneak in a cover crop before the winter, so you get a small bump from the fall, maybe winter killed cover crop before the fallow that will add to soil biology, SOM, water infiltration in the winter, but not tie up nutrients. Overall it sounds like cover crops are being allowed to grow too long. I would propose that in a dry climate they need to be terminated while there is still soil moisture or a change of late season snow rains...so much earlier than a place that sees a lot more moisture. , ie it has the opportunity to breakdown before the fallow.

I am curious. Why do you choose to till the cover crops instead of using an herbicide or choosing a cover crop that will winter kill, and then planting wheat with a no-till drill? Leaving dead plant matter to mulch and allowing the root systems, soil aggregation and micro organisms to live under that top layer of mulch?

you speak my mind but even after a year no answer dry land no till wheat farming benefited lots of Syrian farmers before the war and all of them promoted it to their neighbors cause only cost is seeds, seeding and harvesting and let nature do it works sure they have less yield on 1st year but profit start increasing year after year

Good job. What is the anual rainfall?

Do you even run livestock through to increase fertility and moisture retention
