I get annoyed and frustrated with people who say you should keep politics out of music YET THEY BRING POLITICS INTO STUFF THAT ISN'T POLITICAL LIKE A ALBUM REVIEW FROM A NON POLITICALLY CHARGED SUPERGROUP OR BAND
I just have 1 rule, and I don’t think it’s a stupid rule. I listen to everything, no matter what, but in terms of supporting (buying albums, streaming them legally, buying merch eccetera) I do my best to not support NSBM bands. I still listen to them, I like the music, Peste Noire is one of my favourite black metal band of all time, my problem is not listening to the music and enjoying it, my problem is giving money to people I don’t like, it’s a completely different thing and it makes sense in my opinion. I can separate the art from the artist but I don’t want to support bad people. That’s my only limitation and I think it’s a reasonable one. Aside from that, I agree with no rule and complete anarchy 🤘

I personally enjoy demos more than the albums because I like raw production, but that doesn't mean the studio album is sick, and it doesn't make me any superior for enjoying the demo more.
In the wise words of Lemmy Kilmister: "Should you be penalized for listening to Music that gives you Joy? Screw Em! Do Whatever You Want." It applies to ALL Metal Fans and the best thing about Metal is all about the variety and eccentric styles of genres. And all of us have the freedom to like bands, and any genres whether its Power Metal, Alternative Metal or any Extreme Metal subgenre Metal does NOT need Conformity or Too Much Elitism since it would just make anyone less interested if they keep on shunning people away instead of making them interested.
I like same old school bands to still exist and keep the drees code other wise we end up with same thing like modarn country where yodeling is a a completely foreign concept, elitism is what capet true metal alive

A band’s image is obviously a good way to help promote music, but the minute that image/reputation/belief/fashion of a band becomes more important than the music itself or is used as a crutch is when I say that the music is probably not all that good to begin with. So, you mean that you saw The Transylvanian video, lol. In fairness 20 years ago I avoided most of the older metal because I thought it was softer and the clean singing was goofy, but I actually dig that stuff more as I've aged which probably proves that it is actually for grandpas.
I love the little parts of Blind Guardian and Iron Maiden where you see the heaviness underneath the lighter music. For example, "Ride into Obsession," sounds like Hansi just going nuts, and then the guitars for "Hallowed Be Thy Name" feel a little like death metal, to me.
Metal to me isn’t just music but rather an entire culture which is why I believe we have these rules in place I believe we have them for a reason and all tho I may disagree with this video, I do however respect your opinion But surely you must agree with this at least, the rules for black metal make sense and shall always remain (or maybe that’s just a biased opinion since black metal is literally my favorite thing ever and I’m a black metal musician)

I also think there's shades of grey with this mindset, for example there's straight dumb opinions like 'if it isn't my kind of heavy its not metal', but then there's understandable opinions with concerns around authenticity and selling out, because that contradicts with values around the metal subculture. Would King Diamond the band be as cool without Kings makeup and the horror themes. if they played in the same way but their stageshows and clothes were pink and fluffy I would struggle to like it as much. Sure the music would still be great but we need a certain coolness to the music and live shows. it's cool with fire, studs, leather and long hair. not necessary. Rob Halford is still the best frontman in metal even though he looks like Santa. hehe
I’d argue the records would still be amazing and that’s what matters the most but live wise sure the theatrical nature of the music lends itself well with the makeup and the themes but I’d love to see pink and fluffy king diamond haha I’ve seen mercyful fate live looking all evil now gimme the pink version 👌
and it's not just the image but every single detail will influence whether you like a song, if the same song is on a bad album you might perceive it differently as if it was on a good album, just as if the same song was made by metallica or burzum or some unknown band... every little detail you know about certain artist might change your perception of the song, if something bothers you about the artist it will affect how you hear the song, therefore all those rants like you should still like old albums even though the band sold out is pointless, if someone is annoyed by the fact they sold out they might stop listening to the band, if it doesn't bother you then you might enjoy them as nothing happend. who cares. I just think ranting against those people who act like true gatekeeping cult is pointless and also argumentation against it is a bit weak. To me those people can be funny (i think questy was especially responding to the transylvanian here) I might be wrong... their arguments are also silly but I still find them interesting, rather than convincing them how wrong they are, they should rather be subject of research, how human brain and psychology works.

What I dislike most of all is elitism & gatekeeping. I understand that people have an opinion & want to share it in the comment sections of various videos or on a thread somewhere & that's cool & all but, recently I went through the comment section of Nylist's Suicide Silence cover & the amount of filth & hate that was being spewed forth; I kept seeing comments like, "This cover is trash", "Vocalist didn't need to add all those weird sounds, ruined the song for me", "The DJ scratching was unneccesary & makes a mockery of SS", "Phil Boseman's cover is leagues better than this" & my favourite one, "The guitar tone in this sounds too thin". I'm convinced half the people who listened to the track had never heard a Nylist song before & didn't understand that he makes the weird vocal sounds, he does the DJ scratching & I'm pretty sure he does all the instruments himself so the tones are going to sound different to the original. Nylist did so much work on that track only for Metal elititsts to shit all over it & not even provide constructive criticism on the aspects that they hated. I may have had a sheltered upbringing but I grew up under the impression of, if you ain't got nothing nice to say, then don't say anything. UA-cam has a dislike button & you have the option of pressing the 'don't reccomend channel' button too Idk, scenarios like that really grinds my gears because I like Nylist & his funny demon noises & I don't believe he deserved to get dunked on in that video as much as he did. I understand that people have an opinion & want to share it in the comment sections of various videos or on a thread somewhere & that's cool & all but, recently I went through the comment section of Nylist's Suicide Silence cover & the amount of filth & hate that was being spewed forth; I kept seeing comments like,
"This cover is trash", "Vocalist didn't need to add all those weird sounds, ruined the song for me", "The DJ scratching was unneccesary & makes a mockery of SS", "Phil Boseman's cover is leagues better than this" & my favourite one, "The guitar tone in this sounds too thin".
I'm convinced half the people who listened to the track had never heard a Nylist song before & didn't understand that he makes the weird vocal sounds, he does the DJ scratching & I'm pretty sure he does all the instruments himself so the tones are going to sound different to the original. Nylist did so much work on that track only for Metal elititsts to shit all over it & not even provide constructive criticism on the aspects that they hated. I may have had a sheltered upbringing but I grew up under the impression of, if you ain't got nothing nice to say, then don't say anything. UA-cam has a dislike button & you have the option of pressing the 'don't reccomend channel' button too
Idk, scenarios like that really grinds my gears because I like Nylist & his funny demon noises & I don't believe he deserved to get dunked on in that video as much as he did. Okay rant over haha

Anyone who calls themselves a metalhead is a poseur by default. Heavy metal is a label and a name. It's music you like, that's it.
Now that's just false, being a metalhead is to say your part of the subculture, centered around the music, which has its own beliefs and values. The fact that this subculture exists proves you wrong. If you say your a metalhead without being part of that subculture, now that's when your a poseur.
