Yeah, otherwise he would have been really manipulative and an expert at guilt-tripping others. A lot of people see him as an autistic person, me included. And, we tend to feel A LOT. So some might unintentionally guilt-trip others without meaning to because of this. Since Gus himself is aware of the pain it can cause others, he only use it as a last resort. Some autistic people can get stuck in a "you did this to me so now I have to do this to you so we're even" kind of thinking, calling it justice. Others think like that because they know some people only learn when they lose something or someone themselves. Gus knows better, which is great for both him and everyone else. Otherwise, the story would have been so different from what it is now!
The illusion coven head literally had to be pulled out cause they were so traumatized. Gus is literally one of the most powerful characters in the entire show
we rewatching hooty's moving hassle and eda says they must be super powerful, people thinking she just meant willow w/ gus saying he knows what he's about. Meanwhile this absolute POWERHOUSE exists. Like, one of them both used the wrong words AND has absolutely NO MAGIC. And Amity's also op and she couldn't move a single doll with two magic users. They have to be some of the most powerful witches on the Isles.

OKAY THE THING IS . gus has seen actual living memories of belos. not just pictures like hunter/luz or us as the audience. he saw belos kill his brother. he saw belos abuse hunter. he saw belos create grimwalkers. the animators/dana is only showing us pictures of it but belos is obviously not seeing the pictures he's seeing the memories so POOR GUS HAVING TO LIVE THROIGH THAT
That’s probably why Gus was the only one who broke down crying after the door to the Demon Realm was shut. Everyone else was in shock, but Gus fell apart almost immediately. It must have hurt having to go through that.
It’s even worse when you remember he’s the youngest of the group by 2-4 years. They’ve all gone through traumatizing situations but he isn’t as mentally matured yet as the rest of them

From what happened to Wiloow, I believe when a witch goes under amount of stress or emotion, their magic becomes even stronger and more dangerous... and scary.
There's definitely some weight to that, as we see in the last episode eda and king became.much stronger because of their grief, it's possible strong emotions amplifies magic
Considering that the magic bile sac is connected to the heart, it makes sense that stress would cause an increase in magic production as your heart starts racing

So in a way, it's a mental version of a reflex, when you react to something and your body takes control and moves you from being hit or something. However, with a Bile-Sack, the body makes its own magic controlling it, removing all threats. With Gus, it prevented Adrien and the Scouts from studying him more, and made them surfer bad memories with the power of illusions

@@heatherramirez6141 technically, the plant glyph was placed inside grometheus, causing it's body to explode into pieces, so it doesn't necessarily come in contact with the creature when it made the tree. since it is a shapeshifting, deformed creature that can take any shape or form, it can definitely come back and rebuild itself again. at the end of the grom dance between amity and luz, you can see parts of grometheus trying to escape.
Man if only Disney had given us our damn full third season, maybe we could’ve gotten at least a small explanation on what’s made Gus, and by extension Willow, so powerful!

Willow likely just always had an interest in plants, but never realized until Bump said “girl, what r u doing in the abomination track?”. Once she was moved, she excelled cuz she always had the knack for it. Maybe part of why she was a “slow developer” was cuz she is only good at one thing, where she’s immensely talented at it, and cuz she tried magic outside of what she liked or was good at (like how most schools push ppl into learning everything rather than perfecting skills) she appeared as a slow developer. (Also, calling someone “half a witch” when their species is “witch” is messed up. That’s like calling someone “half a human”). As for Gus, he skipped 2 years. He was a gifted kid who was ahead of the curve in other ways, and since ppl identify him as coded autistic (maybe he’s like a savant), he likely is already strong and just needed to catch up in other ways.
The thing about life is that some people are just born better at certain things then other people are!🤷 And as long as the characters aren't amazing at EVERYTHING they do, (Willow for example sucks at Abomination magic despite being a prodigy in the plant Department!) I don't mind writers using that as an explanation for a characters overwhelming skill!

One of my friends believed that Gus was the weakest of the Main 5, but considering that he successfully took down a coven hand and did it alone, I think there's more than enough evidence that he's the STRONGEST of the group. Especially when you remember that HE'S THE YOUNGEST. By the ending of the show, Gus is only around 16, yet has demonstrated some insane feats is crazy. Also the fact that he Traumatized Adrian and then stole his earring is iconic
The thing about Gus is it doesn’t matter how strong you actually are, this fight isn’t about strength it is about if you can stand Gus’s illusions. He doesn’t strike you physically, he instead goes straight for the mental stuff and seeing as he can cause nightmares about things he doesn’t even know about you like with Belos or the Coven Head he put into a temporary coma of trauma this effectively means it is your own mind against you Add on the fact he convinced someone their magic was broken and that their hands hand crumbled away while adding in the feeling of touch and yeah we are lucky Gus isn’t bloodthirsty because you’ll be lucky if you even see the real him in this battle
I'm glad they didn't ignore the Illusionist track and showed how strong it can actually be through Gus, otherwise it probably would have still been pretty weak
I'm liked the detail of Gus having doubts about the magic's strength, no doubt the sentiment of some viewers of the show. I've seen enough anime to know "yeah, genjutsu ain't nothing to mess with," but younger viewers got a great taste through that Gus-centric episode.
The fact that Adrian was pleading for the memories to stop goes to prove just how powerful Gus is, that even the head witch had no idea what to do in that moment to stop the spell.

In Dungeons and Dragons, there's a lot of different damage types, depending on what weapon or spell is used. One of the lesser seen damage types is Psychic damage, because that's usually restricted to higher level Illusion spells, so it's safe to say that Gus might actually be one of the most powerful in the group in system terms.
Illusionists always seen to get the low end of the deal when its a good guy, but pokemon like mr. Mime and gus show that illusions scary. A mental specialist plus illusionist can be a perfect combo.
the ruins episode show just how devastating illusion magic can be. the power of belief is a great and terrible thing. since witches rely on their hands to draw circles in the air to conduct their spells, if you make them believe that their hands are petrified or destroyed, they can't cast their magic in a controlled manner. make them believe they're blind and they shall become blind.

Which is why I've always hatted when people say its the weakest magic. And love using it personally, in games like D&D. Mind over matter people. It's far more then a saying. XD

In Dungeons and Dragons, there's a lot of different damage types, depending on what weapon or spell is used. One of the lesser seen damage types is Psychic damage, because that's usually restricted to higher level Illusion spells, so it's safe to say that Gus might actually be one of the most powerful in the group in system terms.

Ok so from what I can tell, being a coven is just like saying “I’m the best at ________ type of magic” it’s just for status buttttt it’s been proven that the coven heads switch at some point like I don’t think Raine’s been bard coven head for their whole life so at one point there was a separate bard coven head which leads me to believe that if you get one uped by someone else using your type of magic then they would take your place as coven head so when Gus made Gray act like that, it means that he technically one uped Gray with illusions and he saw through the fake coven sigil hand to see it was a real coven sigil hand, which I think Gray was probably doing since he’s the best at it, which means Gus one uped Gray with illusion magic, which would make him a coven head.
