    Here's a way to differentiate NCR hit squads with Caesar's Legion assassins. NCR sent those Rangers and gave you a time limit to get a better reputation. The Legion just wants you fucking dead for daring to resist them and fight back. And sticking it to the Legion is a hell of a lot of fun.

    Yes, technically a failure on his part.
    He was warned ahead of time that the bombs were going to be dropped and the world would end.
    He hastily built an army of the most advanced security robots huge money and vast influence could get him.
    But an issue rose up.
    The place that could make a really advanced software for the robots was really far away from his base in Las Vegas. He was able to built the robot army with basic controls, and the software update that unlocked the better warfare were both completed. However, he was just a tad late. Before the software could be delivered, he ran out of time and the bombs dropped.
    He had *intended* for the chip to reach him asap, but it just didnt happen and he ended up having to wait a really long time, until eventually a courier service was able to get a hold of the chip and send a certain protagonist to deliver it.

    • @patbracken
      @patbracken 4 дні тому +28

      It gets worse.
      House had anti-missile defenses in place that caught most of the nukes heading for the Vegas area. The chip would have also upgraded their targeting, possibly letting Vegas get through the Great War unscathed. But it was a day late...

    • @ABSolution2468
      @ABSolution2468 2 дні тому +21

      To clarify a few things:
      -House was not warned ahead of time. He ran several projects to basically map out humanity's future and they all reached the same conclusion: Mutual Destruction.
      -The Platinum chip only contained the OS House created. The factory in Sunnyvale, California was in charge of printing the Chip. The Chip is a PCB (printed circuit board) designed by House himself and could only be read by any terminals that he designated (There are 3 such terminals in FONV: His terminal in his Casino, the terminal in the weather station and the terminal inside Hover Dam).
      -The chip was delivered the morning of the nuclear holocaust. It was only found after House woke up from his coma and poured an entire fortune into prospecting for it, which he found and ordered to be shipped to him.
      -The courier we played as was 1 out of 6 couriers tasked with shipping 6 items. We just so happened to have the chip.

      I'm curious about that first point.
      And first, apologies as it's been forever since I last played so I'm real fuzzy here.
      Is it known if this is retconned? From what I've heard, the show is canon to the story, and House was shown to be party to Vault Tec's ideas. Did he find out on his own and barter his way to their inner circle? Am I wrong about it being labeled canon?
      Edit: I'll quickly specify that I do remember he doesn't end up going along with VT and E. He does his own thing. I'm just wondering how he got *to* that meeting.

    • @MrHitmancheg
      @MrHitmancheg 2 дні тому +9

      @@tasbard8545 at no point in the game was it implied that House was privy to or complicit in some scheme to kickstart the nuclear apocalypse. He was simply smart enough to see the very obvious writings on the wall and prepared as much as he could to preserve his own slice of america.

    • @passingrando6457
      @passingrando6457 2 дні тому +6

      That's... Almost entirely wrong, actually. House _wasn't_ forewarned, he predicted the Great War over 15 years before it happened, and spent the vast majority of that time either personally inventing or paying others to develop the technologies he would need to recreate civilization after the end.
      The securitron development wasn't hasty, nor based on his wealth and influence; he designed several aspects of them himself, in particular programming both the prototype and final OS. I believe it was stated somewhere that he also personally designed their self-repair systems, but don't quote me on that one.
      The 200 year delay wasn't because he was waiting for it to pop up. He was in a coma for most of that due to system overloads, and sent out mercenaries to prospect for it shortly after he woke up and established contact with groups capable of doing so.

    I love new vegas because it does something the other fallout games don't See in conversations you have skill checks for various things. It isn't just one big "charisma" check, but you actually need to know what you are talking about. You want to convince a guy to supply you with TNT? You need a high enough skill in explosives. But with new vegas if you are going to fail the skill check then you can say some hilariously stupid things. Like telling someone you know how to disarm landmines by trying to pick them up very slowly.

    No, no. He's right. Cazadors in New Vegas are hornet-looking SHITS that are incredibly fast, attack from ranges so far away you'd think it was a different time zone, and no matter how much resistance you're able to pop up it only takes one attack to severely poison you. And they attack in swarms.
    Death Claws are just basically Hunters from Resident Evil 1 if they were seven-feet tall and are about as dangerous, but are easily stopped by just crippling their legs and then gunning and running. With Cazadors, you have to kill them, and immediately take an antidote for the poisoned status you FOR SURE have been given.

    You can play how you like. However, to make character overpowered you need to focus on one playstyle instead of balanced. Every stat has extremely good benefits when max, but you have to sacrifice a few others like he did. You can beat the game with high enough charisma and never having to fight. Max intelligence can get you pass so many places and special science weapons. So there's really no bad stats, but it's recommended to at least max 1 stat out and focus on that playstyle.

    I took yes man's deal, left house alive and removed both the NCR and Caesar's Legion.
    Funnily enough the group which was absorbed into the NCR because of the Legion was a good group who only defended the towns of the region from mutants and raiders. They were the "original" owners of the Mohave before House woke up when people were fighting over the power source he relied on. NCR and Legion destroyed a town beside the dam and both want the dam, the NCR probably to power their homes and the Legion to deactivate it, they are Neo-Luddites if that wasn't clear. NCR need a business partner they have to adhere to, they are pretty corrupt and badly run and need a reason to shape up but the Legion ain't it, those bunch of crazies will just strip the world of the last bit of knowledge it has held on to and what they desperately need is someone to make more G.e.c.k.s (Garden of Eden Creation Kits) and not some lunatics likely to destroy and they find which could be reverse engineered.
    My thought process is that if I was in charge of a region I would probably be pretty beneficial to the people and the future, while house was also positive in that he defended the whole city from the Nukes, he has clearly gone a bit crazy from isolation so I would keep him around as a Advisor. Since he would definitely know more about how things work then a random Courier.
    As for my DLC choice I nuked the Legion but saved the NCR. We definitely don't need a major slave empire in the southern united states. The NCR is much more reasonable.

    A nuce thung that Badger didn't go into because of Runtime is that all 4 DLC are not only connected with each other in a prpgressing story, but are also canon to the main game.
    In order of events, it goes
    1. Honest Hearts: a job protecting a trade caravan going to Zion Valley goes awry and you join up with the Burned Man himself to save the native tribes of Dead Horses and Sorrows from a Salt Lake tribe called White Legs.
    2. Old World Blues: a buch if sentient brains in flying jars kidnapped you and surgically removed yoir brain, heart and spine and help them out in this gigantic crater of a research facility to get said organs back and leave (this one is my 2nd favorite of the bunch)
    3. Dead Money: a manic Father Elijah of the Brotherhood of Steel captures you and four other people, strap bomb collars on all of you, and have you run through the Sierra Madre Casino and Resort to break into the living graveyard and get the treasure underneath. (This is my no.1)
    4. Lonesome Road: a figure from your past draws you into the Divide, a disease ridden nuclear hellscape (especially compared to the actual nuclear hellscape you regularly traverse in), so that he can finally kill you for a past sin that costed BOTH OF YOU a home town and made the Divide what it is now.
    And when you play it all in this order, it manages to merge seamlessly. Mostly if you play to find everything, including random docunents and audio logs.
    It is a great game, despite how bad the bugs can get. For that, I cannot recommend the Unofficial Patch enough. Barring that, there are modders trying to remake New Vegas in a FO4 mod.

    So, two things:
    Thing 1: The Mysterious Stranger has been a regular occurance in the franchise since the beginning, and has several theories surrounding his existance. Some players believe he is an eldritchian being, others think he may be a time traveller. The gun Badger got is suppossedly one that belonged to the Stranger, as it gives off the same musical cues that occur when he shows up and leaves during VATS combat. And in Fallout 4, it turns characters other than the player have noticed him, as there is a detective that you can recruit that has been hunting the Stranger, and will take note of when he appears.
    Thing 2: In New Vegas, there is a neat little sidequest, involving bottlecaps marked with a blue star, that lead to an interesting story about a rival company to the in universe soda giant, Nuka Cola. The story for the rival company is told through various bits and bobs you find throughout a certain location, including a rusty, old robot.

    - Doc Mitchell is voiced by Michael Hogan, who played Colonel Saul Tigh in Battlestar Galactica. He also voices General Tullius in Skyrim and Commander Bailey in Mass Effect
    - Benny (as others have pointed out) is voiced by Matthew Perry from Friends
    - Raul is voiced by Danny Trejo
    - Chief Hanlon is voiced by Kris Kristofferson
    - Arcade Gannon is voiced by Zachary Levy
    - Victor is voiced by William Sadler
    And this is also one of the first games that multiple members of Geek and Sundry/Critical Role worked on together:
    - Veronica Santiago is voiced by Felicia Day
    - Some of the robobrains are voiced by Wil Wheaton
    - Sam Reigel voiced a bunch of the ghoul characters
    - Liam O'Brien voiced Cachino, Pacer, and a bunch of NCR members
    - Laura Bailey voiced Julie Farkas and a bunch of other NPCs

    If you’re curious as to why some enemies just explode into a pile of limbs it’s because of a Perk called “Bloody Mess” or something where you get an overall 5% damage increase to all sources but with a chance to make targets a gory mess, which can make looting a bit tedious sometimes

    Old World Blues is great and funny, as there are former scientists that are now talking brains in jars. It's even funnier with the fact one of them speaks in RobCo code. Oh yeah, the one that's alone is a genius druggy making giant robot scorpions. You also have your own brain removed, then you talk to it. Talking to your brain is especially fun if you play as a female character. After all, you have your brain talking with a male voice module.

  • @BattleSpew
    @BattleSpew День тому +1

    Oh, I really wish he took a look at Old World Blues. That is an absolute goldmine of a DLC!
    It's a bunch of mad scientists who were working for the gov't making all kinds of weapons and other insane things. They put their brains in some robot bodies to survive the couple hundred years since everything went to hell, and slowly went MADDER. And, it gets way more fun to talk to them when you have 10 Intelligence, because you are smarter than they are.
    And, they extract your heart, spine, and BRAIN when you arrive. But don't worry, you can get them back. Though, you have to have a conversation with your own brain to convince it to return, first.
    AND FURTHERMORE, the toaster is the best character in the game. Yes, that's right, a sapient, talking toaster. Better than Joshua Graham. This guy has his priorities, and will not compromise them.

    Plot: The year is 2281. I’m a mailman. I was just doing my mailman thing, and I was executed for it. By some miracle I survived. Now I’m gonna hunt down that sombitch who shot me, and maybe get entangled in a small scale war, watching first-hand as history is written and even influencing its direction.
    Here’s the run-down on the important major and minor factions of New Vegas.
    New California Republic: The “Bear of the West”. Officially founded in 2189, the NCR has been ruling the West Coast for the past 120 years, basing their form of government on the old USA. Unfortunately, they followed the same mistakes of the USA. The owners of the wealthiest industries have far more governmental power than they have any right to, and the ideals upon which the nation was founded are slowly being eroded. Plus, the current leadership of the NCR is focused on rapid expansion of territory without first securing and developing what they already claimed. Now they’ve come to the Mojave, longing to use Hoover Dam’s power generation to send electricity back to California.
    Caesar’s Legion: The “Bull of the East”. Founded by Edward Sallow and Joshua Graham, two former members of the Morman-based Followers of the Apocalypse. Eddie read about Julius Caesar and decided to imitate his version of the Roman Empire without any of Julius Caesar’s knowledge and experience. Ultimately, Eddie became the leader of a violent and savage society of raiders that will conquer you, conscript anyone still capable of fighting, enslave whoever’s left, and execute all who resist or fail to meet expectations. And they perpetuate a superstition that any technology greater than a gun is evil and only worthy of destruction (just don’t ask about his guards’ power fists, his own unique power fist, or the medical equipment he uses to treat his brain tumor).
    Mr. Robert House: A businessman from Pre-Nuke America, founder of the RobCo. corporation, and savior of Las Vegas. House knew that nuclear war was inevitable, so he fortified the Lucky 38 casino with sophisticated anti-missile weaponry, and plugged himself into the building itself by sending his body into stasis so his mind could control his facility, and anything connected to it. The stress of shooting nukes out of the sky left him drained, and he slept for 200 years; unable to finish his plans before Vegas deteriorated. When he woke up shortly before the events of the game, he quickly took control of the Strip from the tribals that had settled in it, made their casinos functioning establishments again, and fortified the surviving area of Vegas’s Casino Strip into the town of “New Vegas”. He then sends a request to the local currier business to deliver several items, split up among different curriers, all leaving at different times, and taking different routes; all to keep the Platinum Chip safe. Unfortunately, he never suspected Benny’s betrayal, and that’s where the game begins; with Benny shooting you in the head to steal the Platinum Chip.
    Independent/Yes Man: You can pick up where Benny left off, utilizing Yes Man’s knowledge to take control of New Vegas and either destroy everyone or unite everyone or anything in between.
    Boomers: A tribe of mostly older people living on an old air force base. They utilize the extensive armory of explosives to keep outsiders away (hence “Boomers”). Helping them with their troubles grants access to their aid in the final mission of the game, where they drop bombs on the dam to blow up whoever you sided against.
    Brotherhood of Steel: A militant force founded _very_ shortly after the bombs fell, their main goal is to recover and hoard any advanced technology in the hopes of keeping another apocalypse from happening. However, by this stage in the timeline, they’ve recently been humbled after challenging the NCR and paying the price. Having lost a war of attrition, the last remnants have scattered to the fringes of NCR territory. The chapter in the Mojave is one such example. Helping them and leaving them alive will not only grant you power armor training, but also get some of their Paladins to help you in the Second Battle of Hoover Dam.
    Followers of the Apocalypse: Based out of Old Mormon Fort, the Followers operate on a system of benevolence; believers that aiding your fellow man is greater than warring. However, this makes them easy targets for forces like Raider gangs and Caesar’s Legion. If you aid the Followers, they’ll send medics to aid you and your allies at Hoover Dam.
    Great Khans: An old Raider gang with roots going back before the founding of the NCR, the Khans have suffered heavy losses in their skirmishes with NCR forces in the Mojave. They would tell you it was a massacre, but the NCR will tell you it was retaliation for a brutal attack against NCR forces. Now the Khans try to rebuild on the downlow, selling drugs and taking sketchy mercenary jobs. If you aid them and receive their help, they’ll send a small group of (immediately defeated) Khans to the dam.
    Enclave Remnants: The hardest group to recruit. The Enclave were the corrupt and elitist remnants of the old USA government. However, their West Coast forces suffered devastation at the hands of The Chosen One in Fallout 2. In New Vegas, you can reunite the last surviving members of the Enclave and recruit them to help in the Second Battle of Hoover Dam; where they’ll show up in old Enclave gear, wreak havoc, and disappear from society.
    There are plenty more stories to discover, and I highly recommend playing the game itself to find out! You may need to hunt down a mod to stabilize the game, though. The version on Steam and GOG is rather unstable.

    Joshua was with the Legion but let them down with a certain loss. They covered him in pitch, set him on fire, threw him down a canyon, but he had things to live for. He considers the burning into a canyon his second baptism. One in water, and the other in fire where he did the most soul searching. And that's only the start of the fuel for his new objective. Thus the fire inside of him burns brighter than the fire on the outside. Initially he shrugs this off hoping for a better more quiet life with loved ones, only they would be slaughtered in the hunt for his head, hired by his old leader. Nothing but tragedy for our mormon tongued man, missing a lot of his skin.

Also Luck is so busted, you can literally win every hand of blackjack by doubling up and get kicked out of every casino from winning too much, if your luck is maxed at 10. If you pick wild wasteland expect lots of Monty Python jokes to appear, and also you can get the best pistol in the game through a wild wasteland encounter

    I like to dump Strength and Luck and focus on Intelligence, Charisma, Agility and Endurance.
    Intelligence increases how much EXP you get, so fast levelling, but it also increases how many skill points you get per level. You can get everything to 100.
    Best thing to do to save on S.P.E.C.I.A.L points is only increases stats to 9, there's a place where you can buy a single point in every stat.
    Endurance and Agility are a priority though, especially on higher difficulties.

    also the story the context of why and there history makes sense there basically repeating american history in fallout new vegas with the ncr.
    they had TWO legendary nationforming leaders in a row who both lived to near a 100 each and the new leader being incompetent is the first real test of dmcracy.
    yes its fun to memeontaxes but i love the ncr as the last hope of Freedom and civilization in the fallout world we know off as close to today as possible problems and all.
    and even though i despise them causing its temporary collapse in the tv show at least i can cope its yet another inspiration from the ivil war of irl history.
