Dr. Mudgil, I spent a long time working in HR/Benefits; dealing with insurance companies can knock the wind out of anyone's sails. I would send documents in on time (always!) just to find that they didn't process them. My all-time favorite comment from an insurance exec? "Just because you sent it, doesn't mean we received it." Classic. They were constantly behind on processing new enrollments and terminations, and then refused to refund the employer. Or, worse yet, refused to cover new employees, stating "late enrollment" as the reason. Ugh. I'm totally with you on this one; wish I could be more helpful in some instrumental way, but you have my moral support 100%.
Please help the spread the word! Patient AND doctors need to speak up! It's time for change! We deserve better!
I have this insurance and it is the worst I have ever had. My out of pocket for what they consider specialty, such as diabetes doctor, is $120. My primary is $80. I feel your pain. Good luck!

Optum has now partnered with CareMount here in New York. Patients can no longer reach a live human being to schedule, ask for directions, obtain radiological reports, etc. You will wait on the phone for over 45 minutes before finally giving up. Further, despite months of Optum assuring us that we will be able to access the Portal to obtain records, etc. THE PORTAL STILL IS COMPLETELY INOPERABLE, LEAVING PATIENTS WHO NEED FURTHER EXPERT CARE, AT RISK. I have attempted to file reports with the NYDOH and the NYAG, but am advised that the basis for my complaints are not handled by them. I truly believe that this conglomerate is going to cost patients dearly. Thanks for reporting.

1/2/24- Optum has a nest of unqualified people, they are nurses not doctors. Optum staff will lie to you about getting help for suffering, they dont prescribe anything but anti-depression drugs. They dont remember to tell you about tests you will need to see the next charlatan who will pass you on to the next. Months go by and they dont care if you can sleep, preform daily chores, like going to the bathroom or any of the things we take for granted. They are even culpable for near killing of people, and the nonsense goes on, i am so dang angry with this outfit im going to start a movement against them.
They need to be closed!! They won’t approve my Dupixent for my chronic eczema!! Disgusting!!

In layman’s terms Dr., you, your office staff and most your patients are being treated like crap by these (2) companies. My father, a retired dentist who practiced for 40 years, instilled in my sisters and I that if you treat someone with respect, they will respect you. I worked for a dental insurance company for 8 1/2 years. When I started there I could truly say the company had a heart. When a new board took over, the company then didn’t know what respect was even if you “talked” to them. To say you are frustrated is an understatement. Please try to take care! 🤗🤗🤗

Here is a good one. I opened an account a week ago and have already received a check back for stuff supposedly filled from early February. I have not received anything during February and only opened this account in March 21st. How can I have received anything from a month I wasn't enrolled. The check was just a partial refund on four prescriptions I never received. I should have been reimbursed the full amount. When I tried to call them, no one ever answered. I will just have the doctor send my prescriptions into the local Walmart from now on.
We all know that. Many years ago I was told don't get United Health Care especially their PPO. What do you do when you have no other choice?
Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat. United/Oxford is the only option for many small business owners, like me. They monopolize that side of the system too! Just crazy.
Nice to see the physician's side of this unmanageable behemoth who, as you pointed out, only cares about profit, not people. The bureaucracy is beyond frustrating. I love how they use AI technology to automatically deny prescriptions. I'm on Fiasp insulin and they only cover Luymjev which I'm allergic to, so they automatically denied it. Once appealed, it had to be escalated further, which required even more documentation from my doctor (a letter I wrote personally citing medical literature as they claimed that Fiasp was only approved for pediatrics). Of course that process didn't go smoothly and had to involved a couple of phone calls and more work on my endocrinologist's side. The following year, the "approval" expired and had to to the exact same process agin, just because they conduct business by denying everything and anything that impacts their profits. I can see why some providers (e.g., my dentist) is not requiring all patients to pay out-of-pocket and submit claims on their own.
They just try to wear one down. It’s infuriating and immoral. They are literally the most vile of any large company. Deplorable. 😡
I re-watched your last posts about this UHC issue, and it seems as if you predicted this would happen. If I'm hearing you correctly, is UHC saying this will go away if you pay them $67K? Their letter sounded threatening as well, it sounded like they were "suggesting" that you keep quiet about this matter and stop sharing it on social media. Is this correct? If it is, then that's worse than mob tactics!😠. Thanks for the update! Keep up the good fight!

Thank you for the update and exposing this conglomerate for what it is. I do not know if health insurance reform will EVER make its way through the political self serving moguls in D. C. Run for President sir! Just my thought.
These insurance companies are in the pockets of our legislators, which stifles any real reform. It's criminal!
I have a United Healthcare Medicare PDP which I pay monthly high premiums for out of my Social Security benefit. By asking my doctor to send the script outside of United's Optum PBM to a local supermarket using GoodRX, the price was about $36.00 without insurance vs. $270.00 if put through insurance with United Health Care's Optum PBM. Optum inflated the price almost 8 times with my insurance. Using GoodRX outside of insurance saved me a huge amount of money. I hope that Mark Cuban launches his Cost Plus Drug plan in New York State SOON!!! @@DrMudgil

They told that they covered the surgeon and then when it was time for that surgery they acted stupid that he was in network but not in network wasted my time gave me the run around. Never will I choose UHC insurance again

Be careful insurance companies hire the employees of the insurance commissioners office so your complaints will be reported as resolved and the all hell breaks out! Go to your state reps they can help but remember the get big bucks from the insurance companies,
Ps contact your health insurance and make sure it is blocked from anyone accessing it with out a specific permission form! Hippa means nothing to them & they will use it against you!

Doc. As a provider myself, I wonder how youre not having this same experience with all of the major carriers... While I hope to be in the twilight of my career, I have experienced the identical issues youve so eloquently described here for 2 decades (Ill admit that in 2001 when I first became licensed and UHC deductibles were $250, things were fine)...
Unfortunately when things began to deterioate in 2010 or so, all the carriers seem to act in concert...
Many providers in my profession (Im a chiro) have moved to cash based practices and no longer deal the headaches youre describing... glad social media has shined a light on this and lets theres not only progress for your situation but helps other providers dealing with the same.

Perhaps you don't know what drug prices should be. Optum charged about 8 times the price for the same drug that I put through GoodRX without insurance. UNH is the stock symbol. About $36.00 with GoodRX vs. $270.00 with United Health Care's OptumRX is criminal! What am I paying monthly PDP insurance for if I get most drugs cheaper outside of insurance with GoodRX. I hope that Cost Plus comes to New York State. This pharmacy fraud has got to stop! I've not had a problem with United Health Cares Medicare Supplement policy but with United's PDP through Optum, forget it! They are fleecing people!

What they get away with is outrageous! The FTC is just starting to investigate? What kind of a Federal Trade Commission do we have? They represent corporations not the public.
