'Whiteworm', another exclusive look at a track from Marty's forthcoming album, Wall of Sound.
Grammy nominated recording artist and legendary guitarist as well as Ambassador of Japan Heritage (!) Marty Friedman returns with WALL OF SOUND, the much anticipated follow up to his Billboard charting album, INFERNO. 11 bombastic tracks featuring a diverse group of guests: Jinxx (Black Veil Brides), Shiv Mehra (Deafheaven) and Jorgen Munkeby (Shining), WALL OF SOUND explores, expands and destroys any conventional notions of instrumental music.
Marty was so nice to let megadeth play with him for a bit
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Haha!
They were popular without him, then with him, then without him.
Still, as good as he is, I doubt that he's making much money with his guitar playing.
@@RoadkillPinata you do know that Marty is only worth a few million less than Dave and Dave got most of the money from Megadeth including while Marty was in the band which were their best sells during that period. So if you want to to talk money…Marty moved his camp to Japan and became a hugely known musician. Almost making what it took Dave 40 years to make, Marty did in half the time.
Pss Rust and Peace and Countdown still sell more albums and songs each year than all other Megadeth albums combined. They’re still popular because of those.
a guitarist willing to adjust their sound to appeal to more modern times yet keeping the core value of their sound and musical integrity intact? praise jesus!
He's able too do that cause of his other career in Japan's Tv he has no record company or any one telling him what to play. therefore everything he plays is what he or his band mates wanna hear. he doesnt have to make a living playing the guitar anymore
probably still can but he's not dependent on it anymore
For sure!👍
Jesus? Such skills have to be swapped for a soul at a crossroad as far as i know^^
His vibratto is for sure one of the best in the game!
Yeah, your right. Yngwie and Hendrix are second and third. lmfao
bending*
@@omomahauzel4997 I must say, his bending and vibrato combination is purdy awe inspiring. I do a good "whiteworm" up on me humble little channel here. Do have a listen, if you have a chance, as I do enjoy my vibrato and bending, as well. :)
Listen to Adrian Smith´s vibrato.
Jason Dotson and dimebag
Best megadeth guitarist to date
Chris Poland > Friedman imo
Rust in peace (Marty Friedman) by far
Kiko is better imo
EElectric_M Marty’s solos are more memorable by far
Dave said that kiko is his favourite guitarist in Megadeth then comes Marty, so I would base my opinion on both on that, because you won't know about guitar unless if you're a guitarist too.
"Marty, how many effects do you want on this video?"
Marty - "Yes"
So 90s, so dark, so heavenly, so heavy, so exotic.. just so Marty.
so erotic..
Marty is so much more progressive, experimental, and interesting than most guitar players. As much as his work with Megadeth was fantastic, I think leaving was the best thing he could have done for himself. His playing and music have evolved into such a unique and amazing style that is vastly more interesting than what most metal guitarists do.
One of the greats of our time! There is a very small number of guitarists who truly have their own original sound, and Marty is one of them.
Marty's guitar solos simply never disappoint.
Well done, my man!
Dave Mustaine Dave you rock! Txs for still playing awesome music, hope one day you both play together again
+Andres F. Lopez da fuk?
its a bot
Andres F. Lopez I'm so sorry man but it's a fake...
えっ!?大佐、本物・・・?w
Putting a latin piano into a metal song....ladies ang gentelman Marty Friedman!
He has taken the Nazarite oath. Never cut hair, don't drink wine and dedicates many years on the stringed harp of power.
Damn Marty. Age has been good to you. Still rocking that badass hair...shit man, you could pose for that Dragon's Kiss album cover today & there'd be almost no difference!
already fuktup He is kind of a metal god ;-)
hahaha yes
Marty Friedman, and Chris Poland are the best lead guitarists Megadeth ever had in my opinion. Chris brought the Jazz thrash to it, and Marty brought the Exotic scales to it.
I dated a cousin of Chris Poland once, no shit... but it was long after he was out of Megadeth
They provided far more than that! I understand you're saying though, and I agree
@@tonyperrin6709 Cool, if it's real, could you tell us more about it?
Marty Friedman continue 😎
I agree the only problem I have with marty is he played on my two favorite megadeth albums rust in peace ,countdown to extinction and the two I hate cryptic writings and risk the latter was so marty wouldn't leave the band Dave said he should have let him leave I agree everybody could have done without risk
2:05 that classic feeling!
3:52
Sounds like every hit Gary Moore ever had lol. Not this entire song, but the "Classic Feeling" part you mentioned, and also the part Abdur Sampit mentioned. Still Got the Blues, and Parisian Walkway (G. Moore) Check em out
@@mlnem2k If you have nothing nice to say be quiet.
@@ennoshita7495 Maybe re-read what I wrote. Really champion each and every word. Sound it out if you need to. I merely eluded to a common juxtaposition between the works in question. If you are offended by that, perhaps the internet is not for you. Find a local safe space.
@@mlnem2k it doesn't remind me of Gary Moore...
love how marty keeps evolving. He doesnt become stale like his former band. Even sounds a little progressive here.

Iridescent Noise he's one of my favorite guitar players ever
beautiful! I love Marty Friedman... he even added salsa to this (at 1:12) lol.. He is top 5 guitar player of all times... Megadeth's Rust in Peace will be my favorite metal album thanks to him as well.
I agree to a certain point! It got Marty truly on the map, but rust in peace was not his best work...thrown in the mix...yes he did great. But youthanasia and countdown to extinction is where Dave let him truly shine...damn shame Dave is such a megalomaniac!!! They would still be together.
@@jimmyz171 Agree to disagree, Rust in Peace personally is Megadeth's best album ever and Marty's best solos too :)
@@jimmyz171 rust is piece was everything lining up perfectly... the rest of megadeths albums are far more boring.
This song changes genres like 6 times.
I hear guitar sounds on those long sounding wah bends, which I've only ever heard by Blind Guardian. I love the intro riff and then It's an amazing style change the 2nd riff, ah, nice one Marty!
Right? Blind Guardian and a few Iron Savior tracks... I've always wondered how they get that. Some kind of octaver effect?
use your fingers
I think it's the harmony? A lot of bands use it in metal, Iron Maiden is the perfect example.
It's not just harmony, it's some kind of specific layering effect... If you check out the intro to Iron Savior "Forces of Rage", around the 0:50 minute mark is a good example of it.
It's probably just layering multiple tracks, nothing too complicated
Mart has always been a ridiculously talented musician but aside from the inspirational guitar work on this, what stood out to me on this tune was his tone. Huge improvement over the last few albums. Really looking forward to this.
We love you Marty, you re unique and most influential guitarist all time!
I love how this instrumental is full of genuine emotion and originality. It just doesn't let you go. Many players today brag about being faster or how they are "better" than their idols but almost none of these fellas can achieve what Marty does with this song. There's a reason Mr. Friedman is a guitar hero!
Marty is a guitar god. Very innovative musician. The people who find his music boring are most likely boring themselves. Pay no attention to them.
What? boring not by a long shot that song is awesome the different modes and twists and turns slow fast light heavy freekin great.
ua-cam.com/video/i4Glu_O_qjI/v-deo.html - Listen to this by Marty Friedman. This shows his genius
"The people who find his music boring are most likely boring themselves. Pay no attention to them." - Sorry, but to me, this song *IS* boring except for two notable sections (2:05-2:35 and 3:21-4:18). Listen to this and then go listen to anything from Dragon's Kiss, Scenes, Introduction, or True Obsession. This song pales in comparison.
this song just is boring... just because you feel attached to a song doesnt mean its suddenly void from being called boring.
@@nomore6167 I agree I hated most of the parts with the metal rythm guitar it didn't fit with the melodies at all, but the other parts were good
One of the most stylish and elegant phrasers we've ever seen.
This song takes you back and forth through the 80s to present day while maintaining a BDT (Big Dik Tone) the entire time. 👏
There is nothing ordinary about this song. Extradinary.
HAD TO COME BACK AND SHARE IT WITH A FEW FRIENDS
IM NO GUITAR PLAYER ... IM A DRUMMER, AND THIS IS THE MUSIC I DIG
I love how marty's cut down on his amps. it sounds a lot clearer.
this sounds amazing
marty my man, you always write some real unusual music. Its great to hear music not take the predictable path
keep it going legend
One of the best album ever
Insanely good, still trying to figure out how many styles of music were in there. Total mind warp. Thats folks is what music is all about. Bravo!!!!!
Killer chops... Marty still has it...
Well done..keep them coming!
Rock On!
ランチの看板や黒船神社や横断歩道など、すごい日本推しのMVだな。

さすがマーティーだ。
Best bending and vibrato in the game.
EDIT: and phrasing of course.
Yeah, your right. Yngwie are Hendrix are second and third. lmfao :)
White Worm Is Amazing Multiple Dynamics
Dude you've always been top notch in my book! Your music has always been stellar. Thank you for keeping things interesting while most of the music around the world got mediocre.
This is amazing love you Marty. One of my favorite most underrated guitarist of all time!
2:04 sounds very Cacophony. Love it.
The intro also sounds like Cacophony - The ninja.
MrRaiden182 are you Steve vai?
yeah, it's almost as if he was in the band... oh man that would be so cool....
not really but it does sound familiar
Marty is no mere shredder,...he is more than that, he is a genuine guitar player,...
Well put!
Does he ever age?
Phil Jones LOL. I was thinking the same thing. Looks the same as he did in the 80’s.
Phil Jones 😂😂😂😂😂 he sure still got his talent
I don't remember gods ever aging...
No sun, no smoking, working out I guess...
No smoking, very little drinking, and eats a really clean japanese diet too :)
Saw him perform this in Baltimore last night. Amazing performance by a guitar genius and his band.
marty knows how to incorporate modulation and key changes in the compostion and solo tastefully and spontaneously
In my opinion not only is this metal, but also a mixture of class, intrigue, sorrow, happiness, & vengeance all mixed into one, never-boring 5 minute track. Fuxking masterpiece \m/
Can we just stop for a moment and appreciate how Marty Friedman is one of the few older artists (specifically metal artists) still putting out really good music? Between Cacophony, Megadeth, and his solo work, he has always still continues to put out music to be excited for. Everything he does is different and has conviction and individuality within his discography as well as within the whole music community. He embraces modern styles without creating something generic with it. So many musicians that were phenomenal back in their early days continue to put out music but it's just so by the book for them at this point and completely boring. Some say that artists are at their most creative and create their only worthwhile stuff between the ages of 25 and 35. Marty Friedman is not one of these artists.
Can we? Can we? Good lord
@@nicholaskruger9460 lol
Thank you for keeping this outstanding feeling in music, Marty! You are my hero!
Greetings from Brazil
This is "generic"? Yeah right. Clean the shit out of your ears because you clearly can't hear how awesome this is. This sounds so exotic and unpredictable. unlike most modern shredders who hack the same shit over and over without ever stepping out of the box.
agreed. very unpredictable, which is martys thing imo
people are so jealous
Amen Bro this is some sick kick ass playing, so diverse.Do you reckon Megadeth would have come up with this Gem? No way
no mustain hires virtuoso players, then takes all the credit for himself
It's not about "cleaning the shit out of your ears" as you put it, it's about have a broad musical knowledge and compare each new piece of input with what you have already listened to. This is nothing even remotely new and I've heard many examples of this type of track many times over, thus "generic", I believe, is a fair comment... I sounds very much like a poor-mans John Petrucci, and he's been doing this shit for years!
I'd preordered this album. I was certainly not disappointed. I think Marty's among the most underrated guitarists to emerge from the Shrapnel days. I love his use of tonalities, his awesome feel and vibrato.
This song is awesome. Marty is awesome as usual.
Everytime you think you've seen it, Marty reminds you why he's one of the all time best.
I wasn't expecting prog stuff amazing riffs as always, the comment section is bad Just scroll up and listen to the music
Marty and Jason Becker rules.
Bunch of haters saying he's playing very generic and you can't even do half of what this man can smh
exactly Joshua cause they can't fkn play , maybe practice that might help errr
maybe not....:)
This music is so original it's unbelievable. People need to shut up and really listen to what this man is composing. I agree completely.
Can you play like that? This man is amazing. Most bands and styles are inspired by others so is their any originality? Slipknot isn't original nor is 99% of the music in today's metal scene but its good and if u like it then that's all that matters.
Thats not how criticism works guy
@Agent 0-1-0 do you like Hitler?
the most infernal bendings off all history of bendings , long life marty ♥♥
Marty is the man, Megadeth was never the same
I'm addicted to this.
Marty Friedman is the Paganini of metal
Speechless!! I've been waiting for this video, and was well worth the wait!!
18 years later and I am still trying to master songs from Rust in Peace on Bass LOL
How about now?
I thought it was amazing, all the different styles and all those leads, blended together, to form an epic song.
marty is the original weeb
Yup lol
MattStormage based
MattStormage yesh
Lol
Me watching Vh1's megadeth btm in 2001: ...is he wearing an Astro Boy t shirt?!
He is still hard&heavy as he is melodic. He is the one special guitarist all over the world.
3:21 I always miss that marty
Killer Ax man....grew up to all Megadeth albums and live !....This stuff is great ....!!
Man... Just imagine what Megadeth would have been today if he never left...
Considering that Megadeth just released their second highest charting album, and won their first Grammy(now I hate the grammy's just using that to reinforce the point) I think they're doing just fine without Marty. Marty left because he didn't want to go back to playing metal after Risk, so if he'd never left than it's because Megadeth was still making shit like Risk(or worse)
JacquesLow dude he is a great guitar player no doubt , but dave mustaine tell the truth why he left megadeth he want to be a pop star or be on the radio charts
IMO, Megadeth started going downhill after Youthenasia.
Not sure where you got your information, but Marty had nothing to do with creative control of Megadeth.....that was all Dave. It was all Dave and his desire to have a #1 record, and to break out from Metallica's shadow, and he was willing to change Megadeth's sound to do it. The producer forced Dave to change lyrics he thought was offensive too. After the success of Cryptic Writings Dave decided he was heading in the right direction but decided to go even further into pop realms. He pitched it to the band, and said he was shocked, and upset, that the band went along with it so easily. Dave said when they were making the album he went outside and threw up because it was bothering him so much to be changing Megadeth's sound so drastically. What further fueled Risk was Lars Ulrich's comment that Megadeth never took any Risk. It was that comment that gave birth to the albums title. Risk unlike Cryptic Writings was a failure. After that he decided he wanted to go back to metal. Marty who always felt metal limited him too much, and has always be vocal about that, decided to leave.
moremetalthanyou71 most of what you say make sense, because if was marty desire to be a pop star, megadeth music whit out him was doing any beter example RISK was a total fiasco
When I heard that first low note, I was surprised. Marty Friedman never ceases to amaze me.
Holy shit!!! This song was amazing! What is wrong with all this haters people? Do you guys even know about instrumental music? Wherever... Good Job Marty! From #Caracas #Venezuela
I love watching this guy play. Shred Master. On a side note. If you can pause the video at 1:27, you have one of the greatest pics for an album. 📸 The shine on the head stock, of the guitar, is awesome.
The best Japanese guitarist period.
What about Matt Heafy? Not only is he an incredible guitarist, but he can sing over the very complex riffs he usually writes. Also, on top of it, a lot of his vocals include screaming, which is way harder to do while playing guitar at the same time.
Only he's not Japanese
Syu is better,,
@NocturneKing yes Akira is one of the best and the pioneer for technical playing in japan
But syu is none less than his level.........while marty friedman depicts the best emotions with
his touch and sound! So all these guys are amazing!
Well, Not sure about it. Listen to Hizaki and Teru from Jupiter. They should do a collab together :)
What an insanely original, fantastic piece of music! Flights of fancy galore in this tune!
SalsaMetal
Santiago Mejia that gave me a much needed laugh, that cumbia key board was completely unnecessary, I thought for a moment there I was listening to Gloria Estefan and Miami sound machine, featuring Marty Friedman
it's suposedly to resemble some snes era game music (im guessing...)
the salsa part was great man
I love the salsa part. I do not know if to dance or headbang. Probably I will do both.
@@omhr9554 it sounds like fusion
GOOD GOD THATS AWESOME ... LOVE THAT LATIN / METAL FEEL
id like to keep in mind this man was in in his mid 50s when he wrote this absolute fucking banger of a track
Check out Steroidhead, Sorrow and Sadness and Pussy Ghost
Some Extremely Allan Holdsworthian solos
What does his age have anything to do with it? The majority of those in metal right now are over 50.
@@akidk1499 It seems that Marty often aspires to Allan's style of playing. However, I think Marty channels Chris Poland more.
@@RoadkillPinata this sounds like it was written by someone much younger and in touch with the modern metal sound
and no, the majority are absolutely not over 50 LOL
go to any modern metal festival
@@97McLuvin I was talking about major headlining, main stage acts not the second/side stage filler acts.
No matter, the new Marty stuff is very good but doesn't sound so far removed from earlier stuff he'd done which was also very good. Production seems to be as big a difference as anything.
He's always been good. But he's become one of the best guitar players there is right now. Unbelievably, incredibly talented musician.
Still shredding like the cacophony days but in a better direction. Woot! :)
I am just glad you can hear the bass guitar. nice song
Freakin' amazing!

for all of you that didn't know Marty is in Shinjuku Japan tired of the USA same here I'm heading there in December . late....GREAT Playing Cool Video.
He plays better than me....
thank you Captain Obvious
Well Superman is good at saving people but he's not at playing guitar
LP D'A He usually broke the strings :( that's the reason
No way...
Don't feel bad, Marty plays better than everyone.
marty knows how to bring natural and spontanuos modulation and key changes in the composition and tastefully in solo
3:20 Love that $#!+
I love this....Marty make more music like this! Could you imagine how great Megadeth would be today if Marty was still in it and actually allowed to write songs!?
The video clips are of a child playing a computer game in the rain, the music is
expressing the different stages of the game as Marty turns evil in the
game but the child defeats the evil and the rain goes away. That's my interpretation of it.
mantovannni Yeah agreed with you
Andrés V Yea one of their problems is leaving the kid in the car.
I think marty's been living in Japan to long,..thats my interpretation of it,....
mantovannni i
Sean Ruiz Lol
The bass guitar tone is killer on this track too
Marty Friedman is GOD
Marty is a monster. So underrated...
How the fuck does he palm mute?
He usually doesn't do it, because he doesn't like the sound of it... He likes to hear the notes clean and ringing, that's why he picks like that... Different strokes for different folks i guess...
Good question I used to ask that all the time. For his own stuff he uses open strings BUT when he was in Megadeth he did have to Palm mute he kind of uses his wrist hand skin by the thumb. I tried to pick like he does & im like the fingers are in the way. its weird but its obvious he has gotten used to it.
Halocandle Most of the time he doesn't others he uses his palm and sometimes he wrist mutes. In the emg artist videos he used his palm and in megadeth he did in holy wars
Halocandle he uses his elbow
Nicola Ferrari he palm mutes loads in this song. What you talking about?? Lol
I love his music. Perfect world is a really good one
Honestly sounds like dream theater in some parts.
After all these years Marty is still better than ever. I like "djenty" vibe on this one
Great! Remind me dragon kiss era...
Most humble guitarist he's great.
When did Friedman become part of the djentlemen's club?
:)))))
Not a pure djent but it has more djent than thrash metal (if u consider he recorded "tornado of souls", "holy wars" etc). So for me it has some djent influence too
You meant to say G3
Jeff Drum Djent is a garbage term. He was doing this long before you kids stuck a dumb name to an unethical way to play music.
Josh Mayfield How can you get triggered over some term?
Today's kids.Totally missing out.More than Rap.Pop.Country Music out there!!!

ups and downs of mind.... rainless sky- priceless.... Awesome
Aaaand now you know why the Marty Friedman era of Megadeth was the best era.
I wanna cry my heart out listing to that solo and just when I start to cry, mart hits me with those metal riffs!
I know amp technology has gone pretty far in the last few decades, but I don't think that head unit can power 84 speakers... Marty's living in 3017.
JackTradesman lol it was also done like that in the 80s I think Marty was having a flashback
