The Metallica song “Halo on Fire” also has a female protagonist in the video, and I think you would absolutely love that one.

This song is actually about being a musician on tour that sacrifices everything for the music they love and how tough it really is. As a musician that toured for ten years, the only time that it I was really free was when I was on stage. The rest of the life was extremely difficult.
Metallica changes the premise, what is wrong wrong with that? It's like Scarface remake by Al Pacino. Take the orignal piece and then work it into something completely different, with the same basic structure. So the whole whore story is perfectly fine in terms of shift in paradigm.
Bob Seger cover. In my opinion they did a great job! I love the entire Garage Inc. record.

This is originally by Bob Seger Metallica covered it and In my opinion better than the original, maybe im just biased since Metallica is one of my favorite bands 🤭🤘
I personally like metallicas version better but I still love the original, Segers version lacks the energy because he is burnt out from the road which is very fitting for the lyrics

Well I happen to like this Version but I'm a bigger fan of the original. Seger sings with more emotion which is what the song is actually conveying.
But like I said I like this Version also especially like the guitar solo.
metallicas covers are always better than the original but nobody can cover metallica better than them.

The fact Metallica covered this because it represented the life of the band on the road. Lars had said this song has James Hetfield written all over it. They covered this because of its essence

The song actually came out in 1998 and as many have already said, it's a cover of Bob Seger. It's one of my favorite covers ever.

They put out the Garage Inc. album with a bunch of cover songs. This one from Bob Seger, Tuesdays Gone by Lynard Skynyrd and a few others. The original Garage Days ep was all covers and was remastered for the Garage Inc. album as well.

Metallica’s version of this song was 1998, the original by Bob Seger was in the 70s.
The song was originally written about life on the road for a travelling musician.
Thats a good point ! We keep looking at the date on youtube but its true it has nothing to do with the axtual release date.

This is my absolute favorite Bob Seger song. It's about life on the road, touring. Lars heard it on the radio and told James to listen. They HAD to do a version of it. The video gives it a whole new interpretation that Seger never intended, but that is completely appropriate and fits the narrative perfectly.
I have done this song at Karaoke for over 30 years, but after Metallica did their version, there are parts I sing that mimic Hetfield.
Not my favorite Metallica song, but it is my favorite Metallica cover.
Ladies this is a Bob Seger cover off Metallica’s Garage Days album in ‘98. I heard you say 2012. That’s just when the video was posted, but when the song came out. This album featured a lot of songs that weren’t released from their early days and a lot songs that were Metallica’s fav bands to cover. It was a double sided disc, meaning there were 2 separate cd’s released on one album.

Nobody here seems to mention: this is not a Metallica song, it's a cover of Bob Seger.
It’s a cover - Bob Seger was the original. A song about being on the road and touring and the side the public doesn’t see, the long hours, monotony and the aggravation. Apparently the lyric “later in the evening when you lie awake in bed, with the echo from the amplifiers ringing in your head” refers to tinnitus Seger had after gigs. Metallica covered the song as part of Garage Inc album and obviously repurposed the lyrics to portray new meaning in the video. Clever really.

I was in high school when I first heard this song on the radio back in 1973. The original by Bob Seger is a really good song, when I heard Metallica's cover they didn't overdo it, just turned it up a notch or two.

No worries about having lukewarm feelings toward this song. 1. It's not even a Metallica song, it's a cover, 2. We'd rather y'all be honest anyway. There are so many reaction youtubers that just get all phony and gush about every song and you know there's no way in hell anyone goes more than 20 songs without coming across at least one they sincerely don't like. Those channels suck cuz they're just pandering for subs.

The original is by Bob Seger. This version is okay, but I prefer the original on this one. You should check it out and draw your own conclusions. Some other Metallica covers include QUEEN - STONE COLD CRAZY, BUDGIE - BREADFAN, MISFITS - LAST CARESS/GREEN HELL, DIAMOND HEAD - AM I EVIL?, BLITZKRIEG - BLITZKRIEG, KILLING JOKE - THE WAIT. There's a few more but these are a few of my favorites. Metallica is definitely a cover band.

If you aren’t too into this one, don’t be discouraged, because for one, as a massive Metallica fan, if this one is kinda iffy for you, I think you’re very justified in feeling that way. I don’t think this song is _it,_ if you know what I mean. Like it’s cool, but it’s not one I would point to for anything spectacular. And two, it’s not really a Metallica song, it’s just a cover. The original song is by Bob Seger. I think you should listen to it once. Not as a reaction video, but just in your own free time you should take a few minutes to check it out. Not because I think you’ll like it or anything like that, but just for the sake of comparing it to Metallica’s version. It might make you view it a little differently when you hear how the original version sounds, and then to look at what Metallica did to the song. The original song is okay, I wouldn’t say I _love_ it by any means. Definitely not anything special in my opinion though. But Metallica’s cover of it definitely heightened it. I personally feel like it’s like the original song, but on steroids. Not just the way they play it, but the way James Hetfield sings it. The way James sings it has a lot more emotional strength. Knowing this song on it’s own is one thing. But I think knowing the original, and THEN looking at Metallica’s cover of it and seeing the way they turned the song up quite a notch gives you a little bit of a different view on the song. As least for me it does. Seeing what they were able to pull out of someone’s else’s work. I would say this song is not exactly a good representation of Metallica per se, but more like a good representation of Metallica’s abilities at covering a different artist’s material.
So as someone who appreciates this song I think it’s best to know the original version first. In the original they use saxophones and Kirk Hammett the lead guitarist for Metallica does a great job at mimicking the saxophone by bending the notes accordingly. Also this song is great for road trips and driving around town. I could always do without the cringy music video that does one thing while the song is about another. Life your reaction!
