  • Hey Horse Lovers! Today I will be opening my brand new Dressage Saddle from Black Country. I ordered this saddle a few weeks ago on trial and I am eager to see if the saddle is going to fit Jiminey and Myself. I am a Certified Saddle Fitter and I do professional fittings as well. In this video I'm going to show you my complete introductory saddle fitting process. We are going to do tracings, posture evaluation, palpation, static evaluation, and under saddle fitting too. This video is going to be educational and packed full of Saddle Fitting information. There is SO much more to share, but I wanted to start by showing you the basics when evaluating a proper or ill-fitting saddle. The BIG question is if this saddle is going to WORK for us or NOT? Saddle fitting is an education in itself. I imagine many feel uncomfortable with a certain style and fit and if its bothersome for the person, it may in turn not be good for the horse either. Its a balancing act 🤹

❣💯 I "learned something from the video," that is, how much I don't know about saddle fitting and confirmation of what an awesome videographer-producer you are. The ergonomics of a good fit are so conducive to preventing spine soreness; as you say, most place their saddles up to close over the withers, but you also don't want to be so far back over the lumbar region.
Yay Shae! Your heart horse was watching you closely from his left eye as you started your presentation. What a great vigilant model Jiminy is! He trusts you implicitly and wants to make sure you're doing it right, lol! You have so many talents, I don't know where to start, including your affinity for the performing arts. You're ramping up, girl, at 92K, told you 😀

@@freespiritequestrian There are so many "expert" horse women contributing to your channel. My hope is that you and Kyle are your own moderators and keep it in your family. You handle your business model so well, you don't need back-seat drivers, so to speak. Imho, yay Shea, you are the best American channel, so why change! The horse-rescue in Texas does a great job running her own channel. She's a detailist like you with a supporting hubby and a team of her Board of Directors, three horsewomen, for her non-profit. Just saying thank you big time for keeping up the pace and being a "high inner vibrations" driver type of personality with presence of mind and elan, woo hoo!

It was helpful because it reminded me that I haven’t done a proper not saddle pad fitting on my horse with his saddle yet I’ve only had him for almost three months so it’s it that bad and I had him I a 36 inch girth because my mare was that size and I don’t have enough spare money to buy a new one so I got a 34 for Easter I’m going to fit properly to him like always and we are going on the first trail ride so I want him to be comfortable even though I only have a barrel saddle my trail saddle is retired it’s like 30 something years old and the stirrups are a bit off and I don’t want to ride in it and end up with him getting spooky again the first trail ride I don’t know how he will act so I’m going to use my normal saddle

Nicely done Shae, the more horse owners or future horse owners learn all the better for the horse's.I am 63 now and we had horse's when I was growing up and now I cringe at what " we did not know and how much that impacted the quality of life our horse's had. 😢 They were not abused at all, but dad was old school and I don't need to explain that.

"Saddle fitting 101" - LOVED IT! Thanks, Shae, for sharing all your valuable equestrian knowledge with us. My first/only horse (my heart horse) had the white markings on him of prior owner(s)' poor saddle fittings when I purchased him. Felt bad for him so I always wanted to buy a saddle from a certified saddle fitter. Meanwhile I bought a good saddle and a great wool saddle pad (like the highly rated 5-Star saddle pads) that made it comfortable for both him and me. Unfortunately, due to extenuating circumstances outside my control, I had to sell him. (I was devastated.) My circumstances still won't allow for a horse. So I live vicariously through you. And this is why your YT channel means SO MUCH to all of us horse lovers. Hope your channel keeps growing! You are fabulous.

Great video. When you said you feel restricted in your trot i felt that. Because Thursday my trainer put a saddle on a horse i am uncomfortable riding (im very tall and the horse is like 14.8 hh so i feel like im throwing him off balance) the saddle that she put on was WAYYYY too small for me and my legs were just flinging around and i could not post the trot so sitting was more comfortable. I told her the saddle feels too small for me and she said nooo we dont need saddles that big this saddle is just fine. (Spoiler it is not. My legs were in the right position but my thighs were touching the bottom of the pommel it was an endurance saddle) and she asked me in a mean way why i was not posting and i said idk. But the day before that i fell with my motorbike and hurt my leg where i was supposed to bee squeezing and the stirrup buckle was on the same spot i was hurt. So that was not a good lesson

In an earlier post you mentioned that you were thinking of selling one or two.of your horses this year. Do have any idea which ones? Interesting learning about saddle fitting. I was only vaguely aware of it as a thing.

Such an educational video! Most vlogs out there are of riders having their horses fitted so its really nice to see a saddle fitters perspective 😊❤

Hysterical Mushu! When Mushu sticks out that upper lip his fancy swirl mustache sticks out!!! He is without a doubt the horse with "silly" in his blood lines. He would have a great career as a circus horse doing a comedy act. I wish I had the skills you worked so hard to get. I used a plaster of paris mould to fit my horse with a new custom saddle 50 yrs ago. He was a good sport and I was able to get accurate interior measurements. It fit but I wish I had your advice. Who was it in the other paddock that tossed their head when you and Jiminy passed each circuit?

So happy you tell us all about saddle fitting and how important it really is! I have seen so many keep and use saddles and other tack just on appearance.
