And I would not expect him or anybody else to join the war. It is a very personal decision (for those who have the luxury to have a choice). But he should not be surprised that some people call him out when he brags with a low risk "war" "combat" tour (Gulf 2009) under best possible conditions, but decides to not join if the fight is more dangerous than baby seal clubbing. People who knew nothing about this conflict before Feb 24th 2022 and who would never risk anything or get involved seem to have the strongest opinions and are the biggest war mongers.
These people still don’t know anything. They know nothing about the negotiations that took place right before the invasion of Kursk. Ukraine deliberately disrupted these negotiations. I see the same thing in Iran, I see how Israel deliberately provokes Iran. What unites both these countries? In both places, Jewish Zionists are in power.
Flying in Afghanistan is not air combat, there are no opposing aircraft or air defence, you drop bombs, missiles and recce with no fear of being engaged, let alone shot down. Combat in Ukraine means dodging S300, 400, BUK-M3, Tor and manpads, a whole layered system reaching out to strike to over 200kms, as well as air to air missiles with far greater range than any missile fitted to F16s, older or not. The US pilots will learn to respect air defence systems, the first time they meet a functioning one since Vietnam. Where will those pilots sleep before getting into their jets, as that is an easy target for Russian missiles also. I'd worry more about Russian ISR and intelligence contacts throughout Ukraine informing the Russian General Staff where all these foreign pilots and F16s are, than worry about whether or not people think you're a traitor for not going. Ukraine already had one of the largest airforces in Europe, where did that go?

In my country (South Africa) being a mercenary is a criminal act, no matter what side you are going to offer your services to for blood money. Why ? Because the world is messed up enough, with far too many wars and conflicts and regime change attempts, without having mercenaries adding more death, destruction, human rights violations and human misery to the picture. Your representative Lindsay Graham is a warmonger who cares nothing for human life nor limb, and would never ever put himself in the same life-threatening situations he’s trying to convince others to put themselves into. Stay out of this (and all other conflicts in the world which do not involve you). I have no dog in this fight - and neither do you.
Ukraine is the most dangerous airspace in the world at he moment, good luck to anyone who decides to do it you are going to need it. I know Lindsey Graham wouldn't have signed up if he was a pilot.
Nobody has the right to tell anyone to go fight for another country. With that said, people do that and often get respect for it. Before the US was at war, American pilots went to France to fight Germany in WW1, to England in WW2, and to China to fight against the Japanese in WW2. So yes, there are others who risk it all and hopefully we can respect their choices. Of course, even in our Revolutionary War there were people who came from Europe to help us. Would I do it if I was an F-16 pilot now, no I don't think so.
Those of you keep bringing up Flying Tigers are flat out wrong about them. They did it *for the money* and virtually all the pilots and ground crew were in it for the thrill and adventure, not for some idealism about "Freedom" (or any real love for Chinese people). Also, Chennault and his pilots knew they were going up against inferior Japanese competition; the vast majority of Flying Tigers kills were vs. the already obsolete Ki-27. Had they been facing Mitsubishi A6Ms of the IJN, the P-40s would have been swept from the sky with ease. They were glory hounds that knew the odds were in their favor; stop rewriting history that they were some principled men walking the "high road" to try to shame Mover and Gonky and others like them...."
I doubt that they knew their odds upfront. And about 25 % of their pilots died, so they quickly learned that there mission was dangerous. It was not a turkey shoot like USAF operations in 2009. If they were in for the thrill and adventure (and money), you could call them fools, but they certainly had more courage than some pilots bragging with "combat" tours over Iraq 2009 (2 AF members are listed as casualty for the whole year, not sure if those were pilots). btw, nothing wrong with not joining the Ukrainian war, even if the only excuse would have been that the risks are to high and the odds are far worse than if flying with the full US support and CSAR etc.: you can call these pilots wise men (like you could call the Flying Tiger pilots fools), but the FTs definitively had more courage. And all these replies "sign up if you think Ukraine needs help" are pretty much nonsense: people may have the same main reasons as Mover and Gonky: no ties to Ukraine, own family. Interestingly enough, this did not prevent Mover to go to Iraq though.
From an aircraft maintenance standpoint I would be concerned about the level of knowledge and competency on the ground in Ukraine. Parts supply would be an issue also.
Parts are not an issue. Maintenance crews are the issue. They need experienced people to train and lead their crews. NATO and the US are still operating like it's peacetime while the Ukrainians are on a wartime tempo, 1 year training? you have 3 months.
100%. We should be enlisting volunteers and retired military to secure our borders. That would be something I suspect many vets would respond to positively.
Well, mover, obviously, utube didn't like what I replied to you about what you said. I'll just say this. Neither Iraq or Afghanistan attacked the US. OSB and Al Queada attacked the US. Iraq was all about regime change and that's was the mission change in Afghanistan. It didn't work did it! No WMD in Iraq was there.
Imagine Mover on some Telegram video, in a Russian detention center being questioned by a group of Russians, after getting shot down by his own side. Wondering if the US will trade some prisoner for him.

Ok, so lets imagine we got 70 western pilots to fly 35 F-16s. Cool. Where will the F-16s be based? Inside Ukrainian territory? Those are under constant recon by Russia, and Russia has shown itself capable of attacking every single part of Ukrainian territory all the way out to Polish border. So safe basing doesn't exist on Ukrainian mainland. Second: Russia has the whole Ukrainian airspace monitored. And it can use both long range interception by aircraft AND by SAMs. Range far longer than missiles available to Ukrainian F-16s can achieve. Also Russia can easily target those AEWaC aircraft that Sweden offered, so situational awareness will also be higher on Russian side. Su-35S and MiG-31BM have higher kinematic capabilities (higher cruising speed) which makes them more difficult to intercept than vice-versa. Basically F-16s are outnumbered, outflanked and outgunned. Ukraine itself is basically dead. There is nothing in it for anyone to fly there. What are those F-16s going to do? Try to achieve air superiority? Impossible under these conditions. Fly on rare occasion to fire a stand-off weapon? Yea, ok, maybe. But that's about it. And even that is dangerous.
Russian air defenses are the best in the world, it has to be, the sheer size of Russia alone makes air defense essential. The F-16 is 50 years old! No way I would climb into one and fly in Ukraine. For almost decades a Ukrainian majority of 66% didn't want their country to join NATO but it was already decided by a small group of people in the 90s in the US, other NATO-members had no say in that decision. When such a big percentage don't want it over and over again, you should stop the reckless strive.
Flying F16s in Ukraine can be dangerous. Ukraine just used a US Patriot missile to shoot one of theirs down. Zelenski fired the officer in charge but where there is one there may be more bad officers.
When Lindsey Graham called on Western pilots to take over the skies in Ukraine, I immediately thought of Gonky. Will he take over the sky, kill all 2.5 Su-57 aircraft or how many 1.5 units are there? He will bring down the stupid c-400 and start throwing bombs at the enemy's military equipment. After all, he has a family in Ukraine and they need to be saved from a bloodthirsty bear with vodka and a balalaika. I thought it was him, the new ghost of Kiev
A newly NATO trained Ukrainian pilot (he was a long term Ukrainian pilot ) in an F-16 just died. There is a dispute on how he was killed. Was it a "friendly fire" shootdown? Or was he shot down by a Russian missile? Or did he make an error and crash the plane? But the bottom line is he is dead and the F-16 destroyed. This SMO/war isn't fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan. This is against a top line peer enemy. And the chance of dying is at the best 50-50. I think anybody signing on to that needs to sign a will quickly.

You have to pardon these newbies my friend. They get their history lessons from Hollywood 😂

Now is the time for all the 'professional DCS pilots' to shine.
We've already had a demonstration that a DCS pilot was able to beat an AI that none of the real F-16 and F-15 pilots were able to beat.
@@pogo1140 Really? ...Details?
@@Bronco-1776 Go back a few months, AI pilot was making head on gun attacks, US pilots don't, the DCS pilot did because we are conditioned to make them.
DCS and other sim pilots don't have minimum altitudes, min separation, safety bubbles that real pilots train with and are conditioned to maintain to the point that it's instinct.
Because real pilots in the real world die, DCS pilots just hit the reset button.

All valid points Mover and Gonky. Different things motivate different people. I imagine there are several former Viper drivers who would volunteer for the right reasons, just like several who would do it for the wrong reasons you laid out. Great show.
I think is perfectly fine if other pilots wants to go to Ukraine. That’s their choice. They take the consequences of their choices. That said, it’s fine for other pilots to have nothing to do with Ukraine. Aside from watching from the outside, those pilots have their own priorities. Ukraine isn’t the center of the world. It should be treated as such.
Since when was it "fine" to sign up to fight on the side of the bad guys? NATO started this war in 2014, sabotaged the Minsk Agreement, sabotaged the Istanbul agreement and the AFU had been shelling the ethnic Russians indiscriminately in the Donbass for the 8 years before Russia got involved. So, it could be that it is fine to go sign up to fight on the side of the Russians.
Very well said. Fair and balanced .👍

The 40 year old F-16 was a great fighter for its time but it is no match for today's Russian Integrated Air Defense.
The Russian integrated Air Defense that has been the cause of 1/2 of Russia's fixed wing aviation losses including an AWACS plane?
Below 300ft, Russian GBAD is non-existent 10 miles from the line of contact. You can even operate above 10,000ft depending on the distance to the line of contact. Russian fighters don't come within 30 mile of the line of contact because somewhere down there are road tripping Ukrainian SAMs

I don't know Mover. Would you have said the same thing to the American pilots that flew for England during the battle of Britain before the US entered WWII? Or the pilots of the Flying Targets that fought for China against Japan? Certainly it's a personal choice, and the risks you list are genuine. But, for a pilot who feels strongly enough that Russia needs to be stopped, just like those WWII pilots thought the Nazis needed to be stopped regardless of what the US government was doing, I would hope the US would not prevent them from going.
comparing Russia and nazis or even WW2 japan is nuts
China continues to show US how grateful they are
Well this is not ww2 and russia is not nazi germany
Not really, Putin has Nazi's fighting for him in Ukraine, in his youth groups, in his News organizations, providing security for his party's political events
US isn't stoping the retiree's from going. The government actually couldn't care less about vets.
The big difference is that any F-16 pilot would be facing Russia integrated air defense systems, including long range SAMs, Russian Air Force, flying old planes with questionable maintenance and support. Not some goat herders in Afghanistan.
Excellent discussion. Thank you for your perspectives.
For almost decades a Ukrainian majority of 66% didn't want their country to join NATO but it was already decided by a small group of people in the 90s in the US, other NATO-members had no say in that decision. When such a big percentage don't want it over and over again, you should stop the reckless strive.

Very true.
First near peer enemy we have faced in decades.

Not your war gentlemen. This crap is some five six hundred years old. If not thousand. Let them sort it out. Not the first time.
I understand them not wanting to participate in the war but it seems you’re implying that no one should simply because Russia and Ukraine have bad relations dating back centuries. You do realize russia has always been the aggressor all of those years? Why should we all be content to simply see Russia try once again to delete Ukraine?
Your war was with the Taliban yet Ukraine came and helped in you hour of need. Guess you really don't have any loyalty to those who fight and die on the battlefield for your cause. 🙄
We said that in both world wars and were drawn in anyways. That is why we changed from an isolationist policy to an interventionist policy to put a lid on conflicts before they expand globally. We got involved in multiple costly conflicts after that but avoided WW3.
If you let this fester, you might just have WWIII. And what message does it send to the Iranians, North Koreans, and Taiwan. I'm pretty sure you won't like a world order where they are running things. Isolationism is a product of good times and creates weak men. Weak men create hard times.

Otherwise, yes they should avoid direct contact with the Russians, that could get ugly.
