@TimeAndDateAndName sorry, the timestamps are for my nephew to rewatch! He makes me replay his favorite moments so it's easier to just timestamp them lol.
First and foremost: I'm not an audio or electrical expert, just an IT guy. 1:12:39 Is where you can hear the "geiger counter" very clearly, and 1:13:42 a little later as you are looking at the fire is an example. Can it be that your camera's audio channel is active in OBS during streams (even though you don't have your camera mic on or connected)? That would explain why the clicking is only audible during streams for example. My thought is that the sound is generated by electrical components inside your pc, or, for example your mouse, or your microphone amplifier etc., that is picked up by your microphone amplifier or maybe your camera audio. Back in the day when you had cheap pc speakers/soundcards, you used to hear the same clicking from your speakers when you moved your mouse for example. So electrical digital signals being picked up by soundcards / audio inputs or outputs. I think you already tried to disable your microphone channel and that made the sound go away right? If not, I would suggest to make sure you really have disabled all other audio channels (even if nothing is connected to them). Then try to see if the sound goes away when you disconnect your camera from your pc (so also the hdmi-cable) or make sure it's not a source in OBS. And if that doesn't help, yeah, maybe do switch your mic amplifier for the Røde (I think?) you have, if you haven't already. You could try to unplug other usb-devices as well, like your new headset.(maybe also disable the desktop audio channel once, just to test) Anyway, excuse my ramble, I hope and am certain you'll be able to figure out the problem. It doesn't even really bother me during streams. :D
The interesting part is that during his stream I couldn't hear it with the same headphones I'm watching this VOD, but I was able to hear it on Tango's stream. But that explanation sounds super cool!
I'm nowhere near as close Mt St Helens as Scar is but I'm seriously reevaluating my "I love living in Washington" mindset with Cleo calling 1980 a little pop, my goodness
Hey scar, i was just informed that my cat whom I have owned for the entirety of The time I have lived at my current house will not make it to Christmas, maybe not even Thanksgiving. I have been crying and trying to process this info for the past hour, and so this vod is a very welcome three hours of laughs that I really need right now. I hope you have an amazing day. edit: thank you everyone for being so kind, this is probably her last day, i dont think the vet can do anything more for her. but i hope she will be happier wherever she is going
My childhood kitty died two days ago. He was nearly 19 and we had him his entire life. It was very hard, and it broke my heart. I’m sorry to hear your kitty won’t make it much longer. Enjoy whatever time is left and I will be praying that kitty doesn’t suffer, and that you and your family are surrounded by peace and comfort.

56:30 those are called cryovolcanoes, and they exist on icy moons around gas giants in the solar system. It's so cold over there that ice acts like rock does on earth, and instead of a mantle of molten rock they have a mantle made of water. Those sub surface oceans are currently our best chance of finding extra terrestrial life (microbes if we're lucky, maybe fish-like creatures if we're very lucky). NASA's Europa Clipper mission is set to fly through the cryovolcano plumes of Jupiter's moon Europa to hopefully confirm if life exists there. Usually a smaller moon like that would have frozen solid all the way through, but they're kept warm by gravitational tidal forces from their host planet. In the case of Io, a moon of Jupiter, those forces are so intense that the moon has actual earth-like volcanoes. Scientists agree that life probably doesn't exist in Io's volcanoes
mentioning the idea of a musical of your worst fear that you're trying to escape... who wants to tell scar that "the guy who didn't like musicals" by starkid is free to watch on youtube and has that exact plot (albeit stitch-free. for his sake lol)
As an astronomy and paleontology buff, this stream has me elated! Also, Cub also being from Illinois (2nd flattest state in the union woot, woot) makes me so happy. Only thing we have going for us is the area I live in was the epicenter of both the previous solar eclipses
It's not St. Helens going off that's the problem, it's the Cascadia Subduction zone. It's the San Andreas Fault on steroids. Which will probably set St. Helens off, but that will be a minor problem in comparison.
I get to listen to Scar while recovering from a hard landing on my ender ender path. Lost almost everything in the void, and I had god tier gear. Whelp.... to the grind I go!!
So to answer a little of ethos rock/sharpness question: Materials are never perfect. Diamonds are typically pretty close, but they can still have errors, inclusions in the crystal unit cell that make two regions not line up, a stacking fault that makes a faulty surface, so on. Now if one diamond would meet one such on the other, the faulty diamond would likely break there. But they should not cut the lattices directly. To polish diamonds we use abrasive slurries, typically (to my understanding, but I've never polished a diamond) we use a slurry of microscopic diamonds, as they are hard enough to attack the faults in another diamond. Now on to the knife: There was a really cool scientific study in Science a few years back, it showed why knifes dull when cutting fibers (like in the shell of vegetables). Basically these fibers meet the small surface imperfections, and even though the fiber is soft, it can build up some energy as it is being cut. As the pressure on the knifes surface fault increases, the knife might chip. Over time this dulls the blade. When you are sharpening your knife, you can thus use a material softer than the knife. You just need to attack the surface faults in a way that sharpens rather than dulls (by making the chipping form a more uniform surface rather than a less uniform one) hope it makes sense?
Food for thought: If the Yellowstone caldera popped we'd all be doomed. (probably) Creaking sound is drowned out by the background music your playing and with my hearing I sometimes can't tell what was said on the vod. Almost two hours into the vod and I realised I was going to play some Stardew Valley while watching and I still have not got the coffee I started to make before watching. Other ways to die: Cat breaks cable electrocuting you. Asteroid. Could die from embarrassment when you find the cause of the noises. Cleo could kill you for - well lot's of reasons. 🤣 Black in a OLED is the pixel/light completely switched off so will save power too.
my mom experienced the Mt. St. Helens eruption (the one where the top went goodbye), theres a family photo that was taken with all of them in masks due to the all the ash
I was 10 years old in Spokane Washington when it exploded. The ash cloud came over Spokane at about 3pm and it went absolutely pitch black. The city shut down for days. Even a full year later there were clouds of ash when my dad mowed the lawn. And I don’t think Spokane was directly in the cloud path (can’t remember that for sure) It was wild
Sitting here on a saturday morning watching this stream, I am for once happy that my kids english is not that good yet. 😂 And hoping that when they are, they are also able to understand that wonderful dark humor
came from tango's Vod, turned my speakers all the way up....hooo boy. i can hear that aggressive tapping. it's so loud on Tango's stream, but here you gotta turn it up and really listen. but it's there. it's like someone AGRESSIVELY typing. like almost punching their keyboard with their fingers. i've heard it be talked about, but i hadn't herd it until today when i got time to watch the vods.
For ethos rock question. It depends entirely on the local pressures at the surface of each material. This gets very complicated when you try to consider the area of asperities. So this means cutting depends alot of the sharpness of the materials since pressure is a lot higher at sharp points. Mohs scale of hardness is also entirely arbitrary and not linear so it's hard to say. Fast moving blades also can cut better so it depends on a lot of things and is not really an exact science. In geology mohs scale is good enough usually. In machining of mechanical parts there is other measures of hardness used depending on the machining method.
Not to add to the scary volcano talk but crazy fact about Mt. Rainier: because of the amount of glacial ice on the mountain, the biggest problem in an eruption will be massive mudslides and flooding from the glacial ice melting. They have said that the glacial melt will cause the Puget Sound to raise about 7 feet.
Having watched part of the stream live on twitch and now watching the vod… I can say Scar that I did not hear the background popping when listening live, but I can hear it now on the vod. Listening the same way. Just thought you’d like to know!
I think the popcorn sound is his oxygen line or the actual machine itself. Because it's very low and actually sounds like that high-pitched sound that comes with it. Would also explain why Scar doesn't hear it. Like the nose on your face. If it's always there, you eventually don't even see it.
I downloaded a recording off Wikipedia of the 1980 Mt St. Helens eruption from 140 miles away and put it on a soundboard, my friends were like "what is that noise" (which of course they'd say that, because it sounds like your speakers are breaking) Saturn's moon Enceladus has cryogenic volcanoes Cleo talking geology is turning cogs in my brain that haven't turned in a long time and it's awesome Edit: AND CHEMISTRY?
