I was born and raised here. Beryl was one of the worst Hurricanes. We were without lights for 8 days. After day 4 we were able to buy a generator. Back in September of 2008, there was Hurricane Ike we were without lights for about 3 days, but it was not as humid/hot. Beryl did a number on us.

I saw someone on Tik Tok used original Pin-Sol. Mix it with a little water and wipe the areas where the flies congregate. Hurricane season is just getting started. It lasts until November. Thank God we never lost power.
Nikki, if the stovetop works that must mean the oven work, so all you need to do is put what you want heated up in an oven safe dish or a pot, cover it, and let it slowly heat up
Tip: always keep you some frozen jugs of water in your deep freezer during hurricane season to keep food cold when power go out. Fill up ziplock bags of water when you know storm is coming for fridge. Always keep charcoal on hand for grill so you can cook. I live in Florida and we get hit all the time. I've been with out power foe 13 days before due to hurricane and baby I was having a coming to Jesus moment.

I’ve never lived in Chicago but I did visit Kankakee Illinois, which is outside of Chicago and you said that you’ve been living in Houston for three years and it’s not for you I understand that what I also found out about Houston is that Houston Texas is sinking because it’s off the Gulf of Mexico and every time they have those bad hurricanes and those bad tornadoes and storms. It is just sinking that part of Houston I come from Seattle Washington but now I live in Dallas Texas and I just made three years live here and I tell you what I love Dallas Texas so maybe you should try Dallas!!!!

I haven’t gone to look at lights in years so I forgot. But I agree it IS ghetto and dangerous. 🤦🏿♀️Giiiirl I’ve been going through it too. Back at the end of May, we had all that rain and flash floods. I was at a client’s house and we got a tornado warning or whatever it was so I decided to leave early so I could get home to my son. Long story short, I ended up getting stranded. It flooded on the exit to my house. It looked like BARELY any water but GIIIIIIIRL, my MINI Cooper STOPPED in the middle of this water. I literally thought I was gonna drown. I was like, “OH MY GOODNESS, I’m gonna be on one of those shows I watch where people die in stupid situations!” 🤦🏿♀️😭 Well God sent a young man by in a big old truck and I jumped in the back of his truck and he drove me to my apartment office. Mind you my car stopped about 1000 feet from the entrance of my apartments. Then he went back out to push my car out of the water. Another guy was driving by and saw him and helped him push it. I was walking over to try to help. The water was up to my THIGHS and they told me to go back and be safe. Praise God. He always got somebody!🙌🏿🙌🏿 Sent my car to the shop. Then found out they let it sit up there for 30 days and didn’t fix it. Geico sent a supervisor to check on the estimate and find out. Car was moldy and all the electronics were not working. So about 2 weeks ago they totaled my car. That car was a gift to myself when I passed my exam for my state license for my job. I am SOOOO DEVASTATED cuz I LOVED that car (I want another one but the way my credit is set up at the moment, I don’t know)🤷🏿♀️ 😢 Then this hurricane came and I was without power for 3 days and lost all my food. So I understand your frustration, I really do. I know God got a lesson in here for me, somewhere and I’m just trying to stay positive. Electricity came back on Wednesday night and I was sooo happy and yesterday my daughter took me to the store to buy food so I’m grateful. Thanks for showing your ordeal because now I know to think about the mall. Didn’t even think of checking to see if the malls were open so we could be in the air and charge devices.
I’m soooo sorry for your situation. Look at it this way the best gift you got from this is LIFE I was just talking about how we just had a tornado last month. The mall was packed but it was cool. However not all malls were open. I live down the street from memorial mall which is across the street from memorial hospital and for that reason the power never went out in that area. In the future if you can safely get to that mall when the power is out they will always have it 😉 Your insurance will pay your car off so your credit will go up Pray on it and go get you another car because all things are possible when God is involved!!
