Just came across your channel, and I love it. I am a 52 year old Steel Detailer and part owner in a fabrication shop that's been running just out of Geelong for the past 20 Years. I purchased a 30ft yacht a few months ago ang I am loving the steep learning curve.

Great to 'meet' you. Perhaps you might do the same soon. Unfortunately I sold Ophelia last year while in Brisbane 2yrs after I completed my circumnavigation. I am uploading the rest on my journey the next 3-4 weeks.

Thanks Greg. I miss the freedom to up anchor & go to a new spot. But looking at a Sprinter van to continue my journey.

I just came across your channel and am going to check out your other vids on your circumnavigation of Tassie. I have a 1974 Swanson 30 called Mulberry. Under previous ownership my boat has done a VDL (circumnavigation of Tassie), let alone numerous S2Hs, M2Ds, a M2H, completed in the Southern Cross cup (finished 7th) plenty of other cruising inc a passage from Hobart to Opua (NZ) return etc. So far all I have used the boat for is club racing but I have plans to go cruising with the boat. Like all old boats there is plenty of work and upgrades to get done, though she is well equiped.
Many years ago on a trip to Deal Island and return we encountered 65 kts in Mercury passage, alone 50 kts going into Triabunna thereafter. While the winds you had at the Marina looked pretty strong, I am sure it was better to be there then on anchor somewhere on the coast, albeit there are a number of nice anchorages between St Helen’s and Triabunna.

If a marina berth is available I would always go into one - especially for those NW busters Victoria & Tassie get. You would have a perfect yacht to go round. Best time is Feb. & March when we get 2 large highs following each other - hence the VDL timing. Go for it.

Was that the one in Pittwater ? Both 29' & 28' yachts are perfect sizes with long keel. Lots of cray pots around so long keel is good. I never left with wind over 20kts & always had 24hr of good weather after I reached my destination just incase something slowed me down. Cross the Bight in Feb/March.
