  • I was really excited to get this call to come figure out where a roof leak was on this camper. I have worked on this camper several times, but I had never had to work on the roof, till now. I did a rubber roof coating on this camper 12 years ago. I had not been on this roof since that day, so I was excited to get a chance to do a roof inspection. Please watch to see what we found on this RV roof.

That's what happens when the owner neglects doing an inspection every so often and the necessary maintenance.
You don't take care of it, it won't take care of you! Good luck!

I’m always surprised how often people neglect their roofs. I’m on my roof after every trip.

Personally, I inspect my rv roof twice a year. Spring & Fall. 3rd year I've owned it and I'm going to give it 2 coats. Keep it in good shape

Henry's Tropi-Cool is the only RV coating worth using. It cost a bit more but it works the best, hands down. AND it has a lifetime warranty. Just research it a bit, watch the vids, read the reviews.

Thanks for the brake Cleaner idea. I'm about to do a coating on my roof of a 97 bounder. My roof however is in perfect condition and gets inspected frequently. I look at an EPDM roof and wonder how it came to be a standard in the industry....it's as if the engineers that designed these things wanted them to eventually leak. Thanks this video was helpful!

Eternabond is good but i would have told them they need a new roof and left. Eternabond is really good for patching holes. We use it on commercial tpo roofs on buildings to fix tears and seams that have come unwealded. Imo that is too gone.

A new roof is more than the value of the camper.

Have you ever used the Gako roof coatings? It's intended for commercial flat roofs, but has a 50 year "ponded water" guarantee. I have a '96 5th wheel with an EPDM roof that needed partial replacement. It needs solid structure to bond to, and my patches were not tidy, but top coating with the Gako has kept me dry. I even had tears patched with self-stick window flashing and ZIP liquid flashing, and I applied the Gako right over them too. Haven't noticed any changes in the 4 years since, including in low spots that stay wet in this Appalachian rain forrest

I like rubber rolled roofing for my offroad vehicle floor boards. Peel and stick. The granules don't fell too bad on the feet. Spray it out at the car wash.

Hi just take your trailer to flexarmor. It will cost you $4,600 for a lifetime warranty.

  • @robertthompson6958

Ugh what an ugly roof!! James doesn’t like eternabond because of its effectiveness over time. But full roof replacement is not cost effective on older trailers. You did what you had to and you’ll keep the water out for a few years Kenny.

My roof is almost completely black but in good condition, can i just do a few coats of tropicool to seal it? I cant find any videos of almost completely black roofs that are in good condition other than the white coating being gone. Theres no tears anywhere. Is the black rubber waterproof too or is that only the white coating you add that is waterproof?

    • @hillbillyrv
      @hillbillyrv  Рік тому +1

The black is your rubber roof. Only the top layer (the white) is worn off. If the camper is newer and in great shape and you plan to keep it for a long time and you can afford it, I would replace the roof.
That being said, there are plenty of rubber roof coatings on the market, just do your homework. You want to find one that will bond to the old rubber not just coat it.

@hillbillyrv ok thank you for your help! I plan to replace it later on but for now I'm going to seal it.

All of the white coating is worn off of the rubber. This roof is totally worn out now.
