I only care about ethnicity in games where it actively pulls me out of the game's immersion because it's so inaccurate and ahistorical. and that works regardless of the colors and ethnicity involved.
If your game is historical; or has a historical setting, you should adhere to that historical setting. A game about Celtic Britian won't have black or Asian people. A game set in Ethiopia won't have whites or Asians. A game set in historical Japan or Korea won't have whites or Blacks. A game set anywhere but Australia won't have aborigionals; or Native Americans in America. That's not racism. That's realism.

Are they implying that people can't enjoy the game because it doesn't have your specific skin color in it? I'm a white guy (whose skin color apparently doesn't count for diversity) who doesn't care that a chinese game, based on chinese myth doesn't have other white guys in the game. I can enjoy the game all the same and it ludicrous to expect every game, or any other piece of media, to be "diverse" for the sake of being diverse.
Everything should make sense in context and cater to the story/gameplay first and foremost.
Just like it would be weird if Kingdom Come was racially diverse, or certain historical war games had a lot of women soldiers in them; to be otherwise would go against their own contexts. Now, if these games were based on what ifs or alternate histories/mythologies, then do what you want, but CONTEXT matters when you talk about these things.

There are no people of colour in the game beyond people from the Cuman tribe, a Turkic people from the Eurasian Steppe. The question is, should there be? I don't WANT diversity in my games. As a white guy, I'm PERFECTLY happy to play a Chinese game, with Chinese characters, Chinese mythology, Chinese sensibilities. In fact, if I travelled to China, I would want to see chinese people! If I saw the same mix of people and cultural things there that I have back home, then what's the point of even travelling? Diversity is NOT always a good thing. Often, it's actually a bad thing. Uniformity leads to strength. If you were making a wall, would you want 27 different "diverse" types of materials as part of that wall, or would you want one type, say brick or wood?
Just like if there ever was Assassin's Creed game set to feudal Japan I would love to play as local Japanese character in period accurate Japanese setting... Not that that sort of thing will ever happen. The diversity people can't be crazy enough to replace the main character with some other race...

I mean the main character's name is Son Goku and he has the same exact power pole as Wukong himself. (Also, Wukong from League of Legends is voiced by the Japanese VA for Goku and Sett is voiced by DIO so yeah there's plenty of overlap)

Pay attetnion: In a couple months when people have played this single-player title to death and leave it be for a while waiting for new content, they will write that the game's 'dead' because only a fraction play it. They did this with Elden Ring, and that population spiked right back up once the DLC dropped, it happens to every popular new single-player game (like Palworld, that game still exists even if most have played it to death) and will happen here too. You know in the same time frame Dustborn had about 80 people and then dropped down to about 20 people twice with the daily cycle.
You might notice the numbers are very small.
There are approximately 8 billion people on this planet and dustborn only got about 80 people to actually buy the game and play it.

My takeaway from this is that western game journalists don’t think Asian players count as much as western players, despite us factoring into every other game release as well, not just this one
So, if we do the math, 3 percent of the 2 million players is still 60 thousand players. Which is still way more than the peak player count of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, which if I'm not mistaken was under 2,800.
Meanwhile Dustbin barely breaks 100. And that's an overestimation.

I saw an Asmon clip about Dustborn, and, I'm not kidding, there is a button prompt in-game to make a character triggered and goes full Karen on another character. But I can assure you, Validate is even worse (a DEI-ridden dating sim in visual novel format).

And, a bunch of other really (geographically) small countries there have anywhere from ~1/3 to 2/3 the United States population despite the latter being almost the size of Europe. You can see these kinds of trends in any game that markets to Asia. Journalists are just plugging their ears and screaming into the void on this one.
Even when you factor in the points in time when China is asleep, this game is still pulling concurrent player numbers in the hundreds of thousands which is pretty amazing.

Well, first off Rev, we're not gonna call them "journalists" because they're not telling the story like it is. They're just game critics.
And yeah, they just don't know when they're beat. They're STILL trying to discredit the game however they can.

I would like to see the diversity of players of Black Myth Wukong if that data is ever available. Because something this big, I bet it's literally the most diverse playerbase you could find for a game. Hopefully we get that nail in the coffin some day.

Sometimes, this happens. I have also encountered once. When I was in college, there was a teacher named Murphy. He was also in charge of guiding courseworks along with other two teachers. Whenever he gives good remarks on your coursework, your final mark is low. Even if he didn't give you a good review on your coursework, you don't need to feel depressed because you will definitely get high marks. That's for sure. So, later, we all know this fact and hence, we just did what we wanted to do. Like this, we don't have need to listen to anybody. What they say it's good, it doesn't mean it's good. Some might be bad. Although they didn't give good review on it, it might be good for you. So, we don't need to pay attention to them. We just need to try it ourselves and see if it's good or bad. In this way, you will not get deceived by other people.

i was in two mind about this game i love Journey to the west, the story is epic, so bu it was souls like and i am not good at them, but the articles pushed me to pre order, when i would hav got i on sale later
To be brutally honest. Apart from 'OMG People taking rest!!1?' thing. This is a single player story focus game. It will eventually drops multiple thousands in due time when people generally satisfied with the game, that's just normally how things goes. The all-time peak concurrent player base at launch are much more of a prominent achievement to this kinda game than a retention player base. Somehow these people lack to basic intellectual capacity to understand that and still thinking they were right all along is .... something else.
And these people will still use that logical progression of things to weaponized as their opinions because that's now sad, pathetic and desperate they are to be proven right despite how nonsensical it is. They really sacrificed all the intelligence, integrity and any respect of themselves almost devolution to a single cell lifeform whom base instinct is to be _right_ and never in the wrong just to feel a tiny bit of world wide web ego.
