The Bengali short story Khabhuliwala is written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1892. He is an Indian poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He started to write poetry in his eight-year-old. He wrote Gitanjali (Song Offerings), Gora (Fair-Faced), and Ghare-Baire (The Home and the World) are his best known works.
The short story is about a fruit seller, a Pashtun from Kabul, Afghanistan, who visits Calcutta to sell his dry fruits every year. While he was living in India, he had a filial affection with a five year old girl Mini. She belongs to a middle class aristrocratic family. Khabhuliwala reminds him of his own beloved daughter back home in Afghanistan.
