  • Scuba Cylinder Markings - What do all those numbers and letters mean?!
    Quick tips are back and this week I'm going to explain to you what all those stamps and labels on your Aluminium-80 (or Al80 to it's friends) mean.
    The AL80 is the most common tank in the world and the most common tank I've dived in my career as a professional scuba instructor. So what do all those symbols and markings mean?!
    Aluminium or Aluminum?!
    The more you know, the better a scuba diver you will be and that is all I care about!

    Starting back at the basics is a great idea. The "Basics" series. Travel restrictions are being lifted here a bit in the Northern Philippines and have our first dive trip planned for August 7th. A second (week-long) trip planned for the 15th, FINALLY!!! Can't wait to get deep and wet.

    Hey James, new subscriber here. Im curious what your opinions are on Florida springs are like, maybe you can make a video on the best caves/springs you have done in florida. Just curious as I am really trying to get scuba certified and want to have a list of awesome places to go when I join the underwater biker club.

    Your air cylinder can be used to transport compressed gas over public roads. The DOT regulates the tank to be sure it is safe for transport. Not sure they care if it is safe for diving.

    Thank you for the info; I need to find out if my 96 Catalina will blow up on me. I want to know, after 40 years, what signs will tell me that it's time to let it go.

    5 years for a hydro test? That makes tank ownership make much more sense than here with an annual test requirement!

    DOT regulates scuba cylinders because they are transported on our highways and byways. It falls in their jurisdiction. 👍

    Hi James, Great Video! Now i have a video guide for tank markings 👍👍👍
    Is it true.. that AL80 tanks say 80cubic ft at 3Kpsi ACTUALLY holds 77cubic ft. ?
    Cheers!

    What happens when a tank has been in storage for over 5 years and doesn't get its required hydro test? Can the tank be subsequently tested or does it just need to be destroyed?

    • @dazdragon445
      @dazdragon445 4 роки тому +2

      just has to get tested before it gets refilled

      I’ve got steels tanks made in 60s. If they pass vip and hydro, sometime VIP with Eddy Current (VE) depending on birth year for Aluminums, use it.

    Remember doing PSI PCI VCI at DEMA last year and being the only UK diver there, they made me get up and say the steel cylinder's markings 😂 Moment of oh sh** what are they again.

    When buying a used tank, can the hydro test and visual test have lapsed for a while, so long as you do both before using it, or does it have have been maintained to be used?

    Very informative video, thanks! Why do you have your rigging kit around the side rather than in a line with the tank valve opening? I've not seen that before.

    what is the safe position to jump into the sea? I dived only on big diving boats and now I am wondering how to dive on the small zodiac. Can you please guide thank you :)

    not meaning to start anything but a vip is not a fed or state regulation it is something put in place by dive shops to keep them safe. people were not caring for their tanks and they were getting internal damage be for their next hydro and causing problems (bang) so dive shops got together and they outcome was the vip to keep people safe. well that was the story i was told when i took my vip class.

    It’s controlled by department of transport cause that’s how you transport compressed air

    • @markdolphin1446
      @markdolphin1446 3 роки тому

      DOT does not dictate the manufacturing standards or rules in any way. They regulate the practice and rules for transporting COMMERCIAL compressed gas cylinders.
