    I’m a Christian and currently reading this book. Highly recommend. Believe it or not, it was recommended to me by several other Christians.

    Thank you Dr. Coyne for your work in trying to educate a largely ignorant public.

    Lol ... From the book … The Church and Mental Health, Published 1953.
    Phillips Brooks saw the difference between morality based upon anxiety and that based upon faith.
    “Why is it,” a friend once asked Brooks, “that some of these men who call themselves atheists, seem to lead such moral lives?”
    “They have to,” replied Brooks. “They have no God to forgive them if they don’t.”

    I love this man. His book "why evolution is true" is so simple, yet detailed at the same time. It explains evolution so clearly, even an 8 years old can pick it up.

    His name is Jerry and he looks almost like a copy of Jerry Lewis, who I loved as a kid.
    Thank you, professor Coyne, for your amazing work!

    I read both of the books they talked about, the best book ever written about evolution and the best book ever written about the stupidity of religions.

    Jerry maintains his sense of humor over a wide range of sad and frustrating statistics about the US antiscience movements.

    I went to Catholic school, we were taught evolution, we never questioned it as a 'theory'.

      did your school also claim that man was made in the image of God, and if so ,claiming that God looks like an evolved primate😂

    Very important topics, this is enthralling to watch. I wish more people were more intellectually curious about biology!

    Evolution is a fact.A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world

    From the book … Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase & Fable by Ivor H. Evans … First published 1817. … Odium theologicum (o di um the o loj ikim) (Lat.). The bitter hatred of rival theologians. No wars so sanguinary as holy wars; no persecutions so relentless as religious persecutions; no hatred so bitter as theological hatred.

      Jerry Coyne has studied fruit flies most part of his life as a scientific researcher. An important part in the research of these insects has consisted of provoking mutations in their genome through outer “violence” like excessive radiation. It is very difficult to find one single mutation which can be considered beneficial during all those experiments. Instead, a multitude of harmful, even lethal, mutations have been observed. The so called neo-Darwinian synthesis theory considers arbitrary and accidental mutations to be the main mechanism of evolution besides natural selection. I wonder how Jerry Coyne explains that record in evolutionary terms.

    Coyne used a very restricted definition to come up with his 1-in-5 believers in "naturalistic" evolution. You could understand and accept the whole of the science, including the timeline, and still be excluded as a "true believer" by his definition.

    Nice. There are real eloquent scientists in the world who understand that we are part of nature, not part of fairy tails.

    In Why Evolution Is True, Coyne explains that the biological species concept is
    “the one that evolutionists prefer when studying speciation, because it gets you to the heart of the evolutionary question. Under the \inr{BSC}, if you can explain how reproductive barriers evolve, you’ve explained the origin of species.”\fn{42 42. Wells, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Darwinism and Intelligent Design, Chapter Five
    ("The Ultimate Missing Link"), pp. 49-59. }}{Coyne}
    Theoretically, reproductive barriers arise when geographically separated populations diverge genetically. But Coyne describes five “cases of real-time speciation”
    \vb\item that involve a different mechanism: chromosome doubling, or “polyploidy.”

    Where did it all start, magnetism, electro-magnetism, electricity, the three forces. All those had to come first otherwise there would be no evolution. To start with evolution is to start late in the game. A whole lot had come before. How did life start way before evolution? There are supposedly fourteen races of men,, we do not know who were the first, and as there have been periodic partial dissolutions that complicates it as well.

    How interesting. So Coyne became an atheist as the result of a "religious experience", so to speak.

    to believe in Evolution it requires great amount of FAITH that enough change over time over enough time will give u a new organism. This is nothing but blind faith that Time will solve the problem.this is utter ignorance this is not science

    • @rickkwitkoski1976
      @rickkwitkoski1976 Місяць тому

      And YOU are completely ignorant. Evolution has nothing to do with "enough time". Your comment says it all. You have NO IDEA what evolution is or how it works. Read his book before you comment.
