  • If you’re like me, every dollar counts. Getting value for money is important, whether you’re buying a coffee or if you’re looking for a new car, particularly if you want a seven-seat SUV.
That’s where this car comes in. The Nissan X-Trail is one of the most affordable name brand, mid-size SUV’s on the market.
Not only is it wallet-friendly, it’s family-friendly too. The seven-seat X-Trail starts from just $31,580 before on-road costs. We’ve got the mid-range model here, which costs a little more but adds quite a few extras.
It really is a dual-purpose vehicle. Check out how easy it is to set it up as a seven-seater if you need it. And being an SUV, it’s what people are shopping for.
But let’s be realistic, this is a front-wheel drive wagon for all intents and purposes. You’re not going to be able to go too far off the beaten track with it. We all know that you’re going to see these more commonly around town, and that’s where it should shine.
It’s quite a comfortable place to be up here. The seats are leather accented and they’re nice and wide, the armrests and centre console bin are nice and padded too.
There’s a display with satellite navigation, a rear-view camera as well as surround-view camera and something you won’t find very often - cooled cup holders. It has heated seats, dual-zone climate control and it’s easy to park with good visibility.
In the second row there are map pockets, cup holders and water bottle holders in the doors as well as rear-air vents. No vents in the third row though and it is quite compact, for children only.
On the road the X-Trail has a few shortfalls. It may get a lot of kit, but the 2.5-litre engine and the CVT miscommunicate quite a bit and it can be slow to accelerate to overtake at highway speeds.
When it comes to the brakes, there’s not enough feel through the pedal while the steering is not as direct as it could be.
The ride can be a little rough and uncomfortable around town but it’s much better on the highway.
If you are looking at a five-seat SUV, why not look at a seven? The base-model X-Trail is well priced, but if you’re looking at spending more money, there are other options.

My family has this car (without the 7 seats) and I don't agree with the majority of what they are saying, it's the most comfortable car I've been in and it gets up to speed quickly. It's a great car check it out for yourself

Is it a good family car? We will travel to the mountains and other biomes so we want to buy a car that can handle that, but it has to be modern too. We currently have a 2015 Peugeot 3008 1.6 and it's not full SUV, but rather a Crossover and we feel comfortable inside.

Car advice, this has to be one of your best videos yet! It was very informative and fun at the same time. The new style of having two staff members, really made it seem like an unbiased opinion. Keep up the good work :)

Absolute biased reviewed to hammer Xtrail in benefit of competitors! U guys really do believe what u are saying?? car not accelerating fast enough? one of the worst brakes in market? u r funny !

Yeah seems very biast against xtrail !! We have recently purchased one and found we have absolutely none of the issues they are talking about !! We have 4wd version weather that makes a difference!! Breaks are probably the best in any car ive driven !! Takes of like a rocket when you want it to !! Just feels different in doing so because of the cvt !! You dont seem to feel the acceleration but its definitely happening !! Steering on ours is also unbelievably responsive!! And comfort while not 100% it is 4wd based so you will feel a few more bumps !!

I have a 2015 xtrail. Iam so surprised that no reviewer has ever mentioned the absurd engine brake 'feature' that is fitted as standard on this car. So intrusive while driving DOWN any hilly roads at reasonable speeds. Had mine disabled.
Also the very poor A pillar vison at RHF from driver's position because of oversized ext rear view mirror, making it dangerous in some road manouvers. It happened to me on ocasions!

Dont worry about thinking twice !! This review is a lot of rubbish!! Just test drive one and see how you go !! We purchased one and found the most of what they criticize is actually incorrect!! I would never go the 7 seat option im this car and we got 4wd model !! And we could not be happier !!! They are a great car and there sales show that !! If they where as crap as these people suggest word of mouth would distroy the sale very quickly !!

Confusing and contradictory, better to go for a test drive for Mazda, Toyota and Nissan X Trail and compare it for yourself. That is what I did and after all just deposited for a Nissan X Trail 2016 getting it next week :) this car is the # 2 on the best selling SUV 2016 in USA, Nissan Rogue is the american version. Bear in mind, you should think why Toyota and Mazda are the top seling cars in Autrsalia; AFL sponsurship and expensive advertising campaigns. If your budget is around $35k the base model is great, I am getting leather seat covers for fron seats only to make it nicer :) and no more I need. I am going with the base model 4 wheel drive as I dont need sun roof, GPS and side cameras, better to use up to date realtime traffic report etc on Google map on mobile.

Review the competitors paid you to do. I have a Nissan X-trail 2016, and I totally disagree with this.

How good are the back seats on long trips? I mean if the adults are small and they fit in well are they comfortable on long trips in terms of the suspension? I think the bumpiness at the rear seats are a multiplies compared to the middle or front seats?
