How to Fix a Grayed Out "Extend Volume" Option in Disk Management for Windows? 1. Press the Win key to open the Start Menu, type Command Prompt, and choose Run as administrator from the right pane. 2. Type DiskPart and press Enter. 3. Type "list disk" and press Enter. This command will display all the available disks. 4. Select the disk that you want to extend. For example, if you want to extend disk 0, type "select disk 0" and press Enter. 5. Type "list partition" and press Enter. This will list all the partitions on the disk. 6. In the Type column, look for the partition that says Recovery. Note the partition number. For example, if the partition number is 4, type "select partition 4" and press Enter. This will select the recovery partition. 7. To delete the recovery partition, type "delete partition override" and press Enter. You will see the message DiskPart successfully deleted the selected partition. This indicates that the recovery partition has been deleted. _______________________________ Next, open the Disk Management tool, and you will see an unallocated space next to the partition you want to extend. Right-click on the partition, choose Extend Volume and then click Next.
I am getting the grayed out "extend volume" too. I did try those steps but wasn't getting the same results and it remains grayed out. Please advise. Thanks. Update: I don't code too much and wasn't aware to leave the quotes out of the commands. Perhaps for newbie like people such as me you can make a note not to use quotes in the command line. It worked. Thanks!!
I tried this and it did not work for me. I have heard that if the VM contains snapshots, editing the size in the tools menu won't work. Can you confirm this? The work around I understand is cloning the VM you want to resize to make a new one without snapshots then resizing that one.
For those who can't find the Virtual Media Manager option, Simply click to the "Tools" option present on the main screen of Virtual Box after going this click on the File -> Tools and then you will find the Virtual Media Manager option there, In new versions of Virtual box the Virtual media manager is not directly available
Is there a setting I could have turned off that completely gets rid of that button, if so I think I pressed it at some point. it feels like everyone with this piece of software has vmm under tools except for me. I swear I did what you said, lol

That’s correct
I added the storage and restarted the vm multiple times but I still don't have the new unallocated storage showing up.
i did it and it doesnt show in the unallocated space . why ??????????????????????????????????/
“Expand volume” button is unclickable. I can only click on shrink
Is still not resolved yet?
I HAVE THE SAME PROBPEM BRO, UM GOING DIJSANE
Question, can the size of the drive be decreased as well? Thank you.
Yes , Do the same but in reverse, shrink the volume in VM first, then decrese size in VM manager
Cant open disk manager, it says "you do not have access rights to logical disk manager on desktop" even tho i am already admin on the vm.
My Oracle Virtual Box VM/guest is Windows XP, and its 'hard-drive' has the extension "vhd".
How can I increase size?
but how do i increase my actual size storage
