  • I actually keep fairly quiet for most of this video! Enjoying hiking across my favorite part of Mt. Iwate - Onigajo, the Demon's Castle. This is the latest in another attempt to lure lovers of the great outdoors to the majesty that awaits in North Japan.

    Making the most of a horrible year. We just had our school holidays and I did a few hikes (more like bushwalks). Connecting with nature really does feed the soul.

    Love your videos as always, this quieter one is a nice change of pace! Curious: Around 9:20, were you able to set your drone to track and follow you as you climb? It's such a cool shot.

    • @GoNorthJapan
      @GoNorthJapan  4 роки тому +3

      Yes - I set my drone to "active track" to follow me for that bit. The issue is that it would lose me if I went behind any rocks.

    This is too good not to share: I just started playing this video but had accidentally forgotten to connect my headphones, so ironically, my boyfriend heard 'this hike I'm gonna be relatively quiet...` And then I paused. He laughed SO HARD! 😆

    • @GoNorthJapan
      @GoNorthJapan  4 роки тому +3

      This route was 16.13km. It took me about 4.5 hours total. I think that it's supposed to take more like 7 hours, but I ran a big chunk of the way down.

      I took waaaaay too much footage (as usual). It would be over an hour, and I can't imagine anyone watching it... But I may try to make some sort of background-type long videos at some point.

    Even though this is just a 15 min video... the journey to the summit has been amazing. Some great views, some rocky paths.. In the end the view that is so excellent makes you forget your fatigue and makes it all the more worth it. Amazing work on those drone shots.

    This one really makes me want to hike this route (and get as lucky with the weather)! Like Sharla, I also feel I would slow you down a lot, though. At what time did you start the hike, and where from? And how long did it take you to get down?

    • @GoNorthJapan
      @GoNorthJapan  4 роки тому +2

      I started this hike really late in the day. I wasn't planning on hiking that day, but my new GoPro 9 arrived so I immediately started charging it with a USB portable charger and packed up and ran out the door to try it out. I started at the Amihari Ski Resort around 12. Since I ran down Umagaeshi (got a friend to drive me back to my car) I managed to do it in about 4.5 hours including filming.

    Can you stay at the lodge if it's too late to go down the summit or the person is tired to do so???

    • @GoNorthJapan
      @GoNorthJapan  4 роки тому

      Yes! There are some lodges that are sort of bare bones (just a bathroom) but free to stay in. At the 8th station of Mt. Iwate there is also a lodge (open from July through part of October) that is 1,700 yen. There, you can rent blankets, some simple food, there's a wood-burning stove, spring water, etc. It's quite nice!
