It took more than 60 years together before she heard the owl call her name. I never realized how much I depended on her, or how important she was to the family. She was the spine, the anchor. I just did not value her enough. She was a product of the Smokys before the tourists came, a pure mountain girl in the old way. Now I miss her in the most horrible way.
