Now that’s singing!!!! You have just witnessed how singing is done, performance, all around class act, very well dressed, no cleavage showing etc Outstanding-Thanks MNS for show casing all the great band, singers, groups that appeared on your show
It just doesn't get any more comforting than Gladys Knight singing, even in a sad song like this. Such a classy lady, and the professionalism of the Pips is on full display here. What a great time to be alive and a music fan.
A world full of smooth right there folks! The arrangement, the vocals and choreography were just fabulous! Gladys and The Pips will always reign supreme!
Dear Midnight Special - These videos are so amazing and I thank you so much for the opportunity for this old man to relive his youth. I was hoping you could post a performance I saw way back in the days that I have always hoped to see again. It is Michael Johnson performing, "Almost Like Being In Love", on the October 13th, 1978 program. I've never seen a video of him performing this song ever since even though it was a top 40 hit. Thanks so much.
Motown was just so deep. They let the spinners go.They let the Isley brothers go it was just so much talent there. It was hard to give everybody their full amount of attention
This song reminds me so much of when Dr. Renshaw died, and I was supposed to be on his Cessna 320 Skynight, plane with him. Dr. Renshaw loved people so much and never wanted to hurt anyone. He was a wonderful man and a great doctor who was the doctor to my entire family. He was so giving and loved by all. As he was flying back from Baker, California, on the missed approach in instrument conditions at Fullerton airport, and coming back to land, one of his engines quits as he ran out of fuel, as he came out of the clouds, he could see the lights on and people in the golf course clubhouse. Knowing that he could live if he landed on the golf course and slammed into the clubhouse, he chose not to do that, because that wasn't the kind of man, Dr. Renshaw was. Instead, he dove his plane straight into the ground before the clubhouse to save the lives of the people in the clubhouse and subsequently take his own. I remember calling his office when I woke up in the morning to confirm if it was Dr. Renshaw's plane that crashed, and the receptionist was crying so hard she couldn't talk. I will never forget Dr. Renshaw and this beautiful song will always remind me of that fateful rainy night.
What an amazing talent. By the time, this group came along, the formula was down pat, the rhythm section knew exactly what was expected to fill its role, and a good song like this and a great voice like hers took the entire genre that much higher. Unlike the music I generally like, this is timeless. (:
The one and only Empress Glady's Knight, Unmatched, Unfadable......Unique. The Master gives us a glimpse of perfection. The vocals, the tone, the clarity, the runs, the class, the stage presence, the depth of gospel in every note. I've followed U ever since I was a shorty. the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's 2000's and a quarter century. U still captivate of us with every performance. No Diana Ross, there is no comparison.
I'm 61 years old my mother turned me on to the Motown scene but when I heard Gladys she blew my wig I got to see her one time add a Michigan State Fair somewhere in the mid-90s I took her flowers she was amazing to me I dig her more than Aretha Franklin Diana Ross fantastic singers Gladys Knight just something about this lady passion she has in her voice and when she puts that growl in there gives me chills
My brother had a thing for Ms Gladys! I saw her here in the UK and she was absolutely fantastic. Beautiful voice she was so wonderful. God bless her❤❤❤😂
Momentos hermosos bellos mi ❤ difíciles de olvidar estan tatuados en mi alma . Recuerdos cuando ibamos a la disco a bailar ,difrutar sanamente mi viejo Amado
I don’t think reincarnation works backwards, but if it does, please let me come back as one of Gladys’s Pips, those are the smoothest cats in Christendom! So so good.
January 11, 1980: "We Don't Talk Anymore" and "Carrie". I wouldn't mind seeing that episode myself. There's a lot of good stuff in that one including Prince.

I've loved her ever since I was a little boy. Her voice is like a mother's embrace.
Me too.

Still one of the best breakup songs of all time!💔🎶
This is one of the most beautiful heartbreak song ever and Gladys Knight's velvety tone bares out all the soul in those words.
There are no words to describe the feelings listening to this soulful song. What a voice!
She has such a beautiful voice and such a beautiful lady so sad. We don’t have good singers like we used to.
For me, Gladys was the best. Shame we lost Whitney who was definitely right up there. So many. They've given us so much.
I sang this song at a beauty pageant when I was in junior college in 1974
Wow. That was a high bar! Hope you won.
The pips moved so smoothly. Love her and them. Beautiful son❤

Gladys Knight is one of the greatest singers of all time. The clarity and tone of her voice is unmatched.
That live band, Gladys and the Pips it doesn’t get any better than this!
Thanks to the people posting these gems! Much love to you!
I was 12 when I watched this show, I'm a huge rock fan but I loved her voice, she had many hit songs. Thank you for the ride back in time.
That voice...tears my heart out, but in a good way! What an absolute treasure she is!
GLADYS A BEAUTIFUL NAME THAT'S WAS MY MOTHER'S NAME MAY GOD REST MY MOTHER SOUL IN PEACE MISS YOU MOTHER ALWAYS
One of America's greatest singers..
I've always been a fan of Galdys Knight and the Pips, great sound with a ton of soul!
One of the greatest endings to a pop (soul) song ever!
It just doesn't get any better . . . !!
I love everything about this performance, the moves, the suits, the sparkle.
Always knew she was amazing, but to SEE here LIVE & the guys bringing it, It was like being there👍Amazing!
Utterly perfect, what more can one say?
Yep!
I have watched at least ten women cover this song and Gladys beat them all. Singing this piece live is just clean and powerful.
This is a slam dunk for Gladys Knight and the Pips. Also, whoever mixed the sound for TV gave us a Master Class!
It took me a while to really realize just how great she is.
Wow! This was great! I enjoyed the smooth dancing of the background singers too.
That voice helped me as I went from the school playground to frontline military service (where I remained for 24 years) in the mid 70s.
Thanks for serving.
Thank you for your service. May God bless you, greatly.
I see her Sunday!!! In San Antonio!!! So excited!!
Thanking Tony for bringing me this song in 2024

Motown actually considered her to be a second tier performer. Let me tell you, there were none better.
Motown was just so deep. They let the spinners go.They let the Isley brothers go it was just so much talent there. It was hard to give everybody their full amount of attention
Totally agree she and the pips are truly magnificent, they were my favourites in the early 70s and still are
"Motown" also thought Marvin shouldn't release a "protest album" but boy were they wrong on that as well.
I take it Motown was just a clique.
Berry Gordy wasn’t always right. Especially in this case!!!

When it comes to steps, people will mostly pick the temps but the Pips ain't no joke
This show was made for her and the fam, or maybe the other way around. They were outrageously soulful.
