Saw the Cure play a similar but much longer set at the lovely old Victorian Saint James Theatre in Wellington, New Zealand in 1984. They did "Charlotte Sometimes", "Faith" etc. off their first few albums too. Ended with Robert Smith lying in the foetal position on the floor of the stage. The Cure toured New Zealand frequently and were always in the media and charts here in their early days because their manager Chris Parry was a Kiwi. Gothic and alternative rock music was big here - New Zealand was the only country where Joy Division had two number one singles...the Fall toured and put out a New Zealand-only live album of their New Zealand shows in 1982. Bauhaus, the Birthday Party, the Psychedelic Furs etc. were all big here.
I was at this gig, will never forget that night think it was my first gig and I was cure crazy then back in the Goth days...and I got tickets for free as I knew they were coming so went up the barrowlands looking for tickets...and I got them plus got tickets for Aztec camera that same day for the afternoon...then come back and went and seen the cure and was right at the front left and if I recall only about 15 to 20 mins was actually live on BBC for the all day rock a round the clock.... anyway was amazing night...seen a few more times after this back in the day
Barrowlands is instantly recognisable. Was too young but know the words, the chords and solos to each song, miss those days. No way I’d get past the bouncers at 13
Really enjoy Porl Thompson… such a great guitarist and multi intrumetist. A fondamental piece of Cure Line up… and very solid on stage. Notice that he plays Fender bass VI on many of the songs.

I'm in love 💕 I think this is the first time I've seen Andy live! I prefer Simon on bass of course, but damn, these were the best of times! It's so sad that now we have mass shootings, cameras everywhere, smartphone addiction, and a pandemic taking out a good chunk of the population. Elon, build that time machine already! I'd stay in the 80's and 90's forever.... 💋
Great show of The Cure, in addition to the strictly musical, is noticeable when an artistic proposal harmonizes perfectly with the social perspective of the youth of the moment and a period climate. It was the band that best performed the youth pulse of the mid-1980s.

Welcome! 🤗 Another cure head is born. I loved them so much that I played Simonette in a Cure tribute band for 7 years. We had members from 18-45 at the time. Basically, The Cure is so good that they attract listeners of ALL AGES and their music is relatable, influential, and timeless. Thank God you discovered them. 🥰
I've seen The Cure many times in all sorts of venues, but the greatest time to be a Cure fan and see them live was 1989 and 1992. The Cure was HUGE then and they were larger than life. I've seen them in so many different venues including small clubs and limited shows, but we were the perfect age in '89 and seeing an entire stadium of people watch in awe as they took the stage amidst the Plainsong chimes and flashing lights and dry ice... And 1992 we were old enough to travel but young enough to not have any ties so we could follow them up the coast. We did it again in 1996 and a half-hearted follow in 2000, but in 1992 there touring forWish and that was just such an amazing album. The Swing Tour had more variety ands them playing some nice gems, but we had already met them by then and they were no longer mythological... they were just guys.

I actually quite enjoy Andy Anderson's style. This is a good lineup. And, oh the shenanigans of the fans... Ultimately my favourite era of the Cure, though I know so many don't share the opinion
I’m with you. I came to love them in about 1988, between Kiss Me…. and Disintegration. Arguably each better albums, technically. But The Top era remains my favorite, standing the test of time, for me, after 30 years. So psychedelic and experimental and colorful. I wish I’d found them then.
during Siouxsie and the Banshees, he really got his iconic look by trying to fit in with them while playing with them and the Cure on tour...in 82..in 84 he had it
86 Concert Greek Theater Berkeley similar set list and 85 tour in Davis, Ca. Both UC campuses. Good shows. No openers, just headliners, just the Cure. They didn't need any.
Back watching this after gorging on Concert the Cure live this week... huge respect to Andy Anderson here.. I think his drumming was phenomenal and he really created the mid 80s drum sound for the band - which kind of became the template moving forward. No disrespect to Lol but he beefed them up - more muscular. Boris was equally great and built on the Anderson style.. amazing drummer as well.

Thats why Roger became a part of the group. On Disintegration Lol did not played anything. And finally Robert kicked him out of the group.
The best era of Cure. The "Concert" live album of 84 is a masterpiece. 👍

This was a free gig, part of BBC’s Rock Around the Clock event that happened in August 1984. I was at this gig. It changed my life 🎵 ❤️🎵
That second song "Primary" is one of Cure's stand out tracks for me. Maybe not as flash as some as their other hits, but a real gem nevertheless.
The live album called “Concert” from 1984 is amazing. Raw. I used to have it on tape. That version of Charlotte sometimes is something else
