People in Vicksburg have a big heart. I was born there; I went to Alcorn for 1 1/2 yrs. I plan to visit my hometown in December. I was the first African American page at the military cemetery when I was 14 yrs old. That city holds a lot of my history.
Awesome video !!! I live in Vicksburg, so THANK YOU for showing that this little town, though there is a lot of poverty, is still a beautiful place ! 👍🥰
Thanks for watching. I love Vicksburg! I have to say now it's one of my favorite places, right along with Natchez, MS.. I did a video on Natchez too but haven't put it together yet! Yeah it's a gem for sure!! ❤️
Visit the battkefield park. I used to go there yearly as a young kid, and many years later toured the park with my wife and young son. I was surprised to see so many African Americans there, and learned from speaking with several of them that Vicksburgh holds an important place in history for them because they consider it part of the history and birth of their own freedom since it was the point at which the tide changed for the south, and it was clear that the north would win the war. As a major fan of rock and blues I have to mention the importance of highway 61 which was the main route from New Orleans to Chicago traveled by the old bluesmen in the 30's and 40's. It makes me so sorrowful to know how much history is slowly crumbling and falling into decay and that young people today, both black and white, have so little knowledge of it. I've known black youngsters who can quote word for word the lyrics of the latest rap tune, but have no idea who Lynn Swan, Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, Shirley Ann Jackson, or W.E.B. Dubois are. The white kids are just as bad locked upstairs in their rooms glued to their phones and gaming monitors. Is evolution running backwards?
This was great to see. I was the only piano tuner that lived there from 1987 to 2008. (8 years total - three different times.) I would drive my bicycle down into the center area of town for exercise most days. So pleasant. The old courthouse area is interesting too.
There are some parts of Mississippi I just didn’t care for but I loved Vicksburg. It has just a nice pleasant feel. Very cool. That sky bar w is awe so too. Food was great. I took Gina back there and she loved it.
This my hometown. I used to work in the 10 south lofts place. the other day some druggie was staring in my car asking for zaza in the parking garage down there
Born in 1941 in Vicksburg. Graduated from H. v. Cooper in 1960, Mississippi State in 1966 and moved to NC in 1973. Still have friends and family in Vicksburg which I visit once a year.
Nice. My wife and I are going to visit Vicksburg this July. I have never been there and am looking forward to seeing it. Along the way, we will stop in Tallahassee and Mobile. We will see the USS Alabama and then drive on to Vicksburg,. From there we we will drive to Poverty Point, Louisiana to an ancient Indian mound. It will be a fun trip.
That’s awesome! You’ll enjoy it man. Great place to walk around , relax and enjoy the day. I boarded the USS Alabama a while back. I don’t think I can be out to sea on a ship like that. Tight quarters isn’t for me. Very interesting tho you’ll enjoy it . It’s summer have fun and thanks for watching.
Tom I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. Just seeing the Mississippi river in action was awesome. Thanks for watching bud! Glad you enjoyed it.
I am a Mississippi native (from the NE hills), and have visited Vicksburg many times...often conducting tours for my high school history class. You showed me parts of the town I never saw. Thanks for an enjoyable video tour. You let the beauty of the place speak for itself.
Just watched your visit to Vicksburg. I’m from Leland north of there on Hwy 61. Visited there often when growing up. Was wondering why you didn’t go to the Vicksburg National Military Park. It is the biggest draw to Vicksburg as far as tourists are concerned. Did you not see it or did you decide to leave it out?
Born and raised in Vicksburg Mississippi, friendly people safe place to live pretty much, nothing to do nowhere to go but casinos not a very big town but a nice place to raise a family or retire, come on visit us and have yourself a ball while traveling stop by give us a holler and oh yes you must see Vicksburg military national park 🙋,,o'yes hills hills hills 👍 up and down 👎🤣😂😂😅😆😄😀🙏
Totally agree. Loved it there. Very chill and lots of things to do. The Mississippi river alone is amazing and you have the casinos! I enjoyed Natchez as well. That's the next video. Thanks for watching! ❤️
Thank You for the tour ... just a great relaxing video too, loved it. I've been around Mississippi passing through many times, love how laid back it is, it's just soothing, folks have that special hospitality to them, the spirit is good, etc. I lived in the large cities all my life, simply for money and jobs ... nothing in any city can compare to the tranquility of a town like Vicksburg. Even though I live in a flashy popular city (Dallas), I envy those who live in Vicksburg and towns like it 🟪
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. It’s just as relaxing there as the video. There is not too many places I like in Mississippi but Vicksburg is charming and is now one of my favorite places.
The day time stood still. Lol Quiet that day. Gina and I went back at night to the sky roof restaurant and there was a lot more action going on. Great place to go and walk around.
What do they say it is? Lol. It’s a great place. I lived there 26 years. Best years of my life. Thanks for sharing.
I would think so too. Loved it. We look forward to going back . Thanks for watching.

From California: you have a beautiful town. From the ONCE great state of California that's going to crap and despair.
California was the envy of all states. It’s a shame. Hopefully one day it’ll be that again.

Great info! Yeah sad that nobody gets out much anymore. Kids all live in a virtual world. Where does it all end. Love Vicksburg!!

It’s a shame. It’s ruining cities and towns. It’s all over. Hopefully it doesn’t get as bad as California, Chicago or New York.

I think it would be nice to as Gerry Rafferty sang, "Settle down in some quiet little town and forget about everything."
Yes that says it all.
So cool, thanks for posting!

Thanks. Yeah I didn’t need to say a word. I really enjoyed that town. Look forward to visiting it again.
Born and raised in Vicksburg. Grew up sneaking into the park to ride my bike all over.
You still live there? How it must have looked back then.
@VanngoTravelers
I live 60 miles north in Washington County Mississippi, south of Greenville.
Lived there. It's good and bad at the same time. Stay in the right areas and it's a great place to visit, dunno that I'd ever move back.
Yeah man! I agree. Mississippi in general is a poor state. Vicksburg is one of the good areas. It has a good feel.
Very cool town ! Seemed slow but lots of potential for sure .
You must have had a heck of a workout walking that place for sure !
Yeah there was so much to see. I really enjoyed it and it was a great workout. Lol

I did! Just ran out of time there. I’ll have to see it next time around. It looks beautiful.

We just put an offer on a home there and it was accepted. Our family is leaving Pennsylvania and going to Vicksburg.
That’s awesome! You’ll really like it there. Very peaceful. Not to far from Natchez, MS. Another great place to visit and spend the day.
Please stop by again 🙏🙋
