Bands demand the larger then life yet artificial backing vocal approach for their choruses. But you don't need backing vocals to make your songs more powerful...power comes from within the heart, not from within a studio.
There is nothing wrong with backing vocals, but there are some songs that have wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too many of them. U.D.O.'s cry soldier cry is a good example. I've seen Blackie play an acoustic medley live without backing vocals, that to me was better then all the backing vocals in the world in my opinion. Take care for now.
