Essentially, we've spent £10m on a player who was one of the best in the world just 2 seasons ago. Because of the injury, fickle fans just assume that's his career over. They fail to understand the medical facilities available these days.
Look at Virgil. He's managed to get his career back to almost where it was. There's plenty of examples of players doing similar in the modern game.
As a 6th choice forward for now, he's a phenomenal choice to have! If he gets back to his best, ability wise, he's possibly even 2nd or 3rd choice for our forward line. Cracking signing by all accounts.

@@dco1019 he had 1 Year left on contract with Juve. They wanted to sell him now so they could get some money instead of losing him on a free transfer next year. Plus, for reasons I don't understand, his perception of value has decreased since his injury.

@@stub6378 yeah damn.. and that was an injury on top of another knee surgery he had that he tried to come back from. I guess, strongly suspect that (if the surgery is successful) the mentality of the player who has to build himself up again plays a big part too.
In my opinion it's one of the best deals of the summer. He clearly isn't as "injury prone" as people are suggesting. Yes he came back from a bad injury and probably isn't the same player as he was, but for 10 million you lose nothing if it doesn't go well.

All this 'injury prone' nonsense..., just a cursory glance at his stats and you tube footage from last season proves he hasn't been injury prone since a serious injury, nor has he lost loads of pace. People just parrot what others say without any critical thinking what so ever. Also all these assumptions he's just a back up. How a guy who would normally fetch 50 mil + is just a back up I don't know - I'm sure he'll fight to start just like the other 5, and the whole frontline will be rotated. Lastly everyone banging on that we need a 6 not an 11, yes yes we know we need that player, but this is smart business (just like signing the goalie), doing our transfer business before we develop issues in positions.

For a supersub, for Salah, he is undoubtedly the best signing possible. Tell me any1 called top 5 Italian players that will sign on knowing he will be second fiddle to Salah in the current market. At 10m going to 12.5, this signing just makes sense for Liverpool. As for why he is cheap, it's probably cause he has 1 year left on his contract, and juve basically freezed him out. Not many clubs are capable of paying 90k a week either. And not many clubs in the world can attract a player of Chiesa's calibre anyway. I reckon, Chiesa was willing to sit on the bench for a season under Motta, but when Liverpool came in, he decided it was fine to go being a second choice forward at probably the biggest club in England. This is his best chance to prove himself, and Liverpool decided to take the gamble. Looking at him smiling at his interviews, I reckon he will be itching to prove himself and I truly hope he does.
Long story short, he isn't a key player. But Liverpool will play many, many games. Reminds me of the same kind of stuff opposition fans used to say when we signed Salah. May history repeat itself.
