DVD drive problems and bolt mods are my favorite 360 problems to find. Usually, in my experience, with the DVD drive, it's either a drive belt replace, a cleaning, pot adjustment, or replacement (all very easy). Then, with bolt mod consoles, I find that 90 percent of the time, just taking the bolts off, replacing the heat sink and x clamps, and reflowing will fix it. Nice video!

Xbox 360 was locked with some HDD firmwares. It is impossible to put in an SSD. I had to flash a new firmware in a 250GB Western Digital HDD to emulate a Hitachi.
@@badger1331 The Xbox One still uses SATA II, as well. It's actually faster to buy a USB 3.0 SSD and connect that to an Xbox One, than to run games from the internal hard drive. I'm so glad the next consoles are launching with internal SSDs. Console players aren't going to know what to do with all their spare time when they load up their favorite games and the loading times are less than half of what they were.

My first games console was a Super Nintendo and from time to time I like to go retro and revisit the good old days of cartridge gaming. My next console was a PlayStation and I've stayed with Sony PlayStation ever since. My nephew on the other hand prefers Xbox, he would give up his Apprenticeship in Motor Mechanics to own an Xbox like that! I will of course advise him against such a fool hardy move and share this video with him in the hope that the skills involved will transfer both ways. Probably the best 360 renovation I've seen on YT, by a country mile. An outstanding job, done with skill and talent. Any point in asking whether you accept commissions?
@@antoniolemus1117 you stack bunch of pennies on the gpu so when you close the xbox the case pushes the gpu down and makes better contact. Pretty temporary fix.
I never done an aperture mod to improve the ventilation for xbox 360 case mods that was pretty neat to include. What size bolts and nuts did you use to hold them together? Lexan polycarbonate seem to be a lot more durable versus plexiglass which is easier to break.
Thermal paste wasn't the issue. The cause of the red ring of death was the solder that connected the GPU to the main board. Microscopic cracks developed over time eventually leading to bad contacts and ultimately failure.
Cooling was quite poor for the cpu and gpu, fans were weak and the heatsinks weren't that great either. The slim model has combined cpu and gpu with much bigger copper/ aluminium heatsink and a big ass fan compared to the "Original" 360's.
This brings back so many memories of my 360 which I had to fix a bunch of times! Now its a memory piece on my room but man did I play the s#it out of my Xbox. Also the finished product looks AMAZING (and airflow practical lol), just awesome great work.

I tried to change a CD drive and I realize that I can't because the DVD key that is paired with the motherboard... so hummm what the hell did you just swap these drive and just start successfully a game ????????
