    Thank you very much for this unboxing review and the additional hints about NAPS2.

    To get multiple pages to one PDF, under "All Settings", "Feed Control", Choose "Continuous Scan". The software should automatically change the file type from JPG to PDF when you choose that checkbox, but it does not. When you go to "Save to PC", choose PDF type and it works on my Mac. I had to spend quite a bit of time on chat with Brother to find this simple fact out. Also funny, is that on the Mac, it still says "Save to PC".

      Thanks for the information. Its a pity that it is so difficult to discover the correct settings. It makes the Brother scanner software much more useful if it will put multiple pages into a single PDF.
      I have been using NAPS2 with my DS-740D for many months now with absolutely no problems so I am going to stick with DS-740D + NAPS2.

      @@Helpful-Stuff I was wondering about 3rd party software, thanks. NAPS2 looks like Windows only, and I'm on Mac. I think I'm good for now though because I can do everything that I need.

      Thank you! Now it actually does automatically change the file type to PDF but I still would not have been able to figure this out without your comment and who knows how long it would have taken me to figure it out.

      Glad you were able to figure it. I am glad I use NAPS2 - it seems more straight forward to use than the Brother app.

    1:00 Fun fact - this port is actually a MicroUSB - you can plug a microUSB cable to the wider part of that port. The reason why such connector exist is because USB3.0 has more pins, which enable faster transfer, but nonetheless, using ordinary microUSB should work as well.

    Their BR-Receipt program (Brother's receipt filing program) is terribly written/developed. The program fonts are super small, manipulating the scanned receipts (i.e. zooming in/out, drag) to OCR extract the fields (i.e. vendor, date, total amount, tax, method of payment etc.), is cumbersome. You'll spend a good 5 -10 minutes just to properly "scan and file" the receipt.
    BR-Receipt saves the scanned receipts inside the program instead of individual PDF files. The program is useful for tax purposes since you can search the receipts by vendors, dates, cost, method of payment, and tax forms. It's essentially your receipt database instead of a windows folder filled with PDF files of your receipts.

      I haven't used BR-Receipt program (I think it may be US only?). I wasn't impressed by Brother's iScan & Print program either. However, the DS-740D is a great scanner that has worked very well and reliably with NAPS2 :)

    You ignored the Calibration Sheet unless I missed it. Did you end up using it? My sheet says to see the user guide, but I only have the quick setup guide. Must go hunting online...

      @@Helpful-Stuff Thanks for the reply. It's the thing you're holding in your hand in this video right after the USB cable at 00:18 . After my initial comment I got it done, but I'm using a Mac so slightly different. If anyone is reading this and wants to calibrate: If your "Brother" folder contains a file with your printer's model number in it, you can follow Brother's instructions without downloading anything.
      If your folder (Applications/Brother on the Mac) only has a link like mine did, use the link go to the official Brother website and nowhere else for downloads. I went there for the firmware update. After that, I had to download the Remote Setup tool. This is what you need for calibration. YOU MIGHT NOT SEE IT ON THE PAGE. I had to click a plus sign to expand for more downloads before I found it. Not very user friendly.
      Downloaded it, followed the instructions to calibrate, and now my scans look significantly better.
      Cheers

      I have just found the scanner's instruction booklet in a drawer where I put all my old instructions books. Inside it was the calibration sheet still inside its plastic wrapping ... I obviously didn't look at it!!!!
      Thanks for your instructions on how to use it :)

    Hello, My settings "All Settings", "Feed Control", Choose "Continuous Scan" is miss. Why ?

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff  Рік тому

      Hi, I am not sure why you do not have the Continuous Scan option. Its possible that Brother have updated the app and removed it as an option for the DS-740D.
      I no longer use the supplied Brother app. I use an app called NAPS2 (Not another PDF Scanner 2). This donationware meets all my scanning needs and is very reliable.
      I regularly scan many multiple double sided pages into a singe PDF document using NAPS2 which is, I believe, the functionality that you want.
      This video shows how to setup NAPS2 for the DS-740D....
      ua-cam.com/video/8oMlZKB-3Ro/v-deo.html
      I get no payment from NAPS2 ... I am just a happy user :)

      It does seem a bit strange for Brother to remove the continuous scan option. Maybe something went wrong with the installation ... re-installing may make the continuous option appear.

    How do I use it with my Samsung tablet

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff  Рік тому +2

      I think the best solution with a tablet does not require a Scanner .... use your tablets camera and then use an app like Google Drive which can "scan" a document ... by cropping the image and then saving the image as a PDF file (rather than an image file like a JPG). The instructions for how to do this are on this Google help page.

      It was a letter with my address and other personal details. It doesn't take long to pixelate a clip like this.
