I used to do the one- two shuffle, lunch at Hong Fongs and browsing at Half Price Bookstore. I collected Starlog magazine, and sci-_fi anthologies. I had been going there since I discovered it in 1980. My friend was smart enough to use coupons that mistakenly had no expiration date. The last time I went was the year before the pandemic. This was my favorite after the one in College Station.
I have 2 near me and I can’t help to feel like things are starting to go down hill. With all the resellers in the world, it’s really starting to affect the selection and prices in these second hand shops. It’s really sad. I’ve been going to the one closest to me for 20 years and since Covid and the reselling, it hasn’t been the same.
Agreed, right when the pandemic hit, their system changed completely, upping their prices vs many items being $1 to $3…now everything is basically $5 and up…unfortunate but it is what it is.
Yeah, I feel ya. There really is no replacement for the ability to search through physical media… Meanwhile the we search digitally becomes more distorted, impoverished, and hypermanipulated in stereotypical, generic, increasingly futile outcomes… in general. There are pockets of contradiction, still…
But at least you have kick ass Flee Markets in the States wedont get them here in UK just car boot sales and you hope someone dosn't know what they had

I bought A LOT of comic books from them back in they day. And that was when the comics were still sold for half price.

Sometimes they will close a branch just to open a larger branch nearby
According to this particular location’s closing statement, they attempted to find another location but couldn’t make anything work out.
